Realistically, it is quite simple. The ST care about the football club both now and in the future, whereas the board of directors of the football club.........
Sad but inevitable that it has come to this. One party wanted to try and get things done, the other was not interested.
One party tried to be open with everyone, one party decided that no-one needs to be told anything.
You really could not make it up.

Looks like there is a divide within the Board if the left hand doesn't know what another left hand is doing...

I come from a slightly different angle on this. Mass boycotting of home games would deliver a really strong message that people are simply fed up of being lied to by a board who have no regard for its own supporters.
In fact, I'd go further. The farce that means that it will cost more to watch City v Bromsgrove than Bromsgrove v City AT THE SAME GROUND needs to be highlighted for what it is. Contacting supporters of other teams, asking them not to attend the City away game will further underline the commitment of trying to starve the board of any income.
Some will point out that no money equals poorer players and probable further relegation. This has become- in fact has been for years- far more about things off the pitch than on.
People are surely intelligent enough (even the WN?) to see that a boycott of home games runs far deeper than football fans not wanting to support the players.

Who is this Brain Lancaster bloke? And who are WCFFC, of whom Boddy was the chairman?
I really think we should be told.....

It is beyond abhorrent that the rabble in charge of the club are quite happy to let the supporters use their hard earned cash following the team around, safe in the knowledge that a 5-0 win, a 5-0 defeat or anything in between, is totally meaningless. If they believe that they have the right to do that, then a complete and total boycott by EVERY supporter of "home" games (home games, remember them?), as galling as it may be for some, might be the only option left.
Then turn up in droves to the away games.....wonder if the penny would begin to drop?

"Despite speculation, the club were required to remain silent until the outcome was known." Except it didn't.......it specifically said that voluntary relegation had NOT been applied for.
Going down to level 5 is not the worst thing ( and note Hampson blames the FA for that) but that "chairman" must go. I don't care if he says no-one is putting their hand up- JUST GO. Things could not be any worse.

My fear is that some of the current board, and therefore many shareholders, will feel that the ST saw this years before they did, and there will be reluctance to move forward with this because the green eyed monster will rear its ugly head.
Hope I'm wrong in thinking that it is more hot air from the board.
Once again, time- which is fast running out- will tell.

When the now defunct Wimbledon FC were on their last legs as a London side, the board sanctioned the sale of two of the better players to rival Championship clubs (we were in the mix for the playoffs at the time), in order to guarantee that promotion back to the Premiership would be out of reach.
I fully expect the gates at Bromsgrove to be locked for an upcoming home game.
Truly sad, totally unnecessary.

Cheers, Niels......this was somewhere near the best 0-0 draw that I will ever see. I said to people before the game that I'd be crying like a baby if we won, and would shrug my shoulders if we lost....thankfully the tears flowed!
So it took less than 9 years for the proverbial middle finger to be extended to the FA........"not in the wider interests of football"......stick it.
As an aside, I was lucky enough to be in the inner sanctum at The City of Manchester Stadium before the game, where I espied a certain Mr D.Boddy on Conference duties- he was left in little doubt of what I thought of his attempts to drive WCFC into financial oblivion. Think he was a bit surprised that i was clued up on (one of) his past failures.
And Tim- lets hope that we go up, they go down and justice will have been done.
Just think of the fun that MK could have had over the last nine years if they'd have gone about things the right way.
Thanks again everyone

I bought the WN this morning after seeing the billboard outside the newsagent, which proclaimed "WORCESTER CITY STADIUM SHOCK"
So I bought it expecting to find that Nunnery Way was deemed to be perfectly viable after all, and the costs had plummeted to only 1.4 million pounds. So, yes, it was a shock!
Wonder how Mr "That Lot Have Got Prepared Questions", from the cricket club meeting, is feeling right now.
Oh, and thanks to the Worcester News for getting there, admittedly just a little late......

I make no apologies for mentioning AFC Wimbledon again- the charge for U16s at our home games is 2 pounds.
So it may seem like only a quid difference- in reality it is much more.

"whats wrong with 3 pound for under 16s?"
Surely you jest? If you sold out every home game every time, then no problem. But if you don't, then letting them in for less is a given.
"Mum/Dad, I want to go to a football match." Mum/Dad takes son/daughter...result, more income.
"Mum/Dad, I'm going to the football with my mate(s)" Kid goes, Mum/Dad stays at home. Kid has more money to spend at the football game.......result: same/more income.
Or kid gets charged 3 quid to get in. Mum/Dad thinks I'm not taking him/her again. Result....I'll let you guess at that one.

Thank you, birdfeeder.
It will not be decided whether that town in Buckinghamshire will host any games until AFTER FIFA have made their minds up as to which country gets it.
Yes, let it be a financial windfall for the country, for the towns that host the matches......just not there. There is no justification for a town to benefit financially from the theft of a football club.
What happened to Milton Keynes City (City, ha!)FC and Wolverton (MK) FC, I wonder........?
|
|
|
Post by rushwickdon on Dec 30, 2009 17:00:23 GMT
Of course, there will be no financial windfall for the town, the stadium, the stadium owner, and ergo the Franchise.
Thought you had more moral fibre

Sorry, it has everything to do with it. The whole ethos of football in England has been destroyed by the apparant reward for franchising- a town with no football tradition is being put forward to take an undeserving place on the world stage, which is a real kick in the teeth for all football fans. Every town bar one with a population of 200,000+ has earned its place in the football pyramid. Support for the McKFranchise bid from the FA and the Government too shows that they support football franchising, for which there can be no moral arguments.

Apologies in advance for this one........
Some of you know me, some do not. I am an (AFC) Wimbledon supporter who moved up to Worcester in 2004. Back in 2002, the FA shamefully allowed franchising of football in this country, signalling to me a new low in English football....... until now, for they have unbelievably put forward that little town in Buckinghamshire as a potential WC host stadium, once more trampling all over the assumption that a team has to rightfully earn its place within the football pyramid. A petition has been set up on this website-http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/mk2018bid/- and I would politely request everyone to have a look at it, and, if in agreement with the opinion, to please sign it.
Thank you
