Apologies in advance for this one........
Some of you know me, some do not. I am an (AFC) Wimbledon supporter who moved up to Worcester in 2004. Back in 2002, the FA shamefully allowed franchising of football in this country, signalling to me a new low in English football....... until now, for they have unbelievably put forward that little town in Buckinghamshire as a potential WC host stadium, once more trampling all over the assumption that a team has to rightfully earn its place within the football pyramid. A petition has been set up on this website-http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/mk2018bid/- and I would politely request everyone to have a look at it, and, if in agreement with the opinion, to please sign it.
Thank you

Sorry but I'm a bit confused. Whats this got to do with football teams? That "little town" in Buckinghamshire has a population of almost 200,000, its bigger than Sunderland. It has a fine stadium, and many other fine facilities in the area, like the snowdome, hockey stadium, and the Bowl. Personally I see no reason why the town of Milton Keynes shouldnt have put in a bid and that bid be successful.

Sorry, it has everything to do with it. The whole ethos of football in England has been destroyed by the apparant reward for franchising- a town with no football tradition is being put forward to take an undeserving place on the world stage, which is a real kick in the teeth for all football fans. Every town bar one with a population of 200,000+ has earned its place in the football pyramid. Support for the McKFranchise bid from the FA and the Government too shows that they support football franchising, for which there can be no moral arguments.

Ah, so you can only host a World Cup game if your town has football tradition?? So forget facilities, transport, hotel accomodation, access to airports, railway stations, training facilities for teams to stay in, and the myriad of other things that have to be in place to make the World Cup circus happen. Gone are the days when the World Cup was all about football, the corinthian spirit, the alternating of the venue from Europe to South America (no-one else plays the game do they??) Milton Keynes is a fine venue and I cant think of a better venue in that part of the country. I'd welcome a bid from Twickenham as a potential ground, and thats got even less footballing tradition, but would be a damn good venue. To my knowledge MKDons wont be playing in the world cup

Of course, there will be no financial windfall for the town, the stadium, the stadium owner, and ergo the Franchise.
Thought you had more moral fibre

Yep, financial windfall for the town, and I'm sure we'll be sold that it will be a financial windfall for the whole country. this isnt to do with moral fibre, its not to do with Wimbledon, or MK dons for that matter. This is to do with the FA's bid to try and win the 2018 World Cup. They will try and do whatever they need to do to win the bid, and that includes this shortlisting of prospective grounds IF the bid is successful. I'm sure the FA will present the selected grounds based on geography, demographics and all that bullshit, to win over FIFA and at this stage thats all that matters. To be honest, there's probably a better argument about Nottingham instead of Derby in the East Midlands (newer stadium etc). Football tradition doesnt even come into FIFA's reckoning, after all if it did, Australia, USA, Indonesia wouldnt stand a chance. Petty infighting about the morality of franchising of football is really going to impress FIFA I don't think. Maybe the place for petitions against the very people trying to win the bid would be best served AFTER the bid has been won?

I worked in MK until last year, its a really nice place, easy to get to and from, loads of parking, direct train into london, handy for M1 and M40, plenty of hotels, bars, nightlife, good road network. If there wasnt a 22,000 spanking new stadium already there, it would be an ideal place for a 22,000 spanking new stadium!! In fact, if they'd moved the national stadium from the unideal location of Wembley, they could easily have chosen Milton Keynes as the location.

Thank you, birdfeeder.
It will not be decided whether that town in Buckinghamshire will host any games until AFTER FIFA have made their minds up as to which country gets it.
Yes, let it be a financial windfall for the country, for the towns that host the matches......just not there. There is no justification for a town to benefit financially from the theft of a football club.
What happened to Milton Keynes City (City, ha!)FC and Wolverton (MK) FC, I wonder........?

One could argue, what right have Manchester City to benefit from the World Cup? Having already benefitted from recieving a purpose built stadium converted from the City of Manchester Stadium after the Commonwealth Games?? Why should they benefit having been gifted the stadium paid for by the Governement and handed over to them on a long term lease??
What happened to Newton Heath FC?
I'd like to see the World Cup bid won for England, and played at fine stadiums chosen for their merits and not by local politics.

Thank you I'm firmly with jcp on this subject - the bid should be on purely facilities/infrastucture/transport grounds - nothing else. We get it - people are annoyed that MK Dons are in existence - point has been made
