How many of you have played as Worcester in FM hoping to do a better job than the current establishment?
In the game i’m currently playing, it’s the 29/30 season and City are sitting at 12th in the Championship after 25 games.
My season progress is as follows:
16/17 season - 17th Vanarama North 17/18 - 1st Vanarama North 18/19 - 20th Vanarama National 19/20 - 15th Vanarama National 20/21 - 4th Vanarama National (promoted via playoffs, City also went professional at the end of this season) 21/22 - 22nd League Two 22/23 - 22nd League Two 23/24 - 11th League Two 24/25 - 2nd League Two 25/26 - 15th League One 26/27 - 3rd League One 27/28 - 6th Championship (Promoted via playoffs) 28/29 - 20th Premiership 29/30 - Current Season
If the original 16/17 Worcester City squad, Steele lasted the longest. He could still play competitively in League Two. It wasn’t until the 25/26 season where I needed to sell.
All but Cieran Keane have retired by 2030. He’s currently playing for Staines Town in the VNS. Graham Hutchinson is Manager is currently manager of Forest Green. I did employ Hutch as a Coach for a while before he moved into management instead.
True to form, City start the game with poor finances. The club was almost constantly in debt until the single season we spent In the Premier. The Tv fees you receive are ridiculous in the Prem. 1.2 mil per game plus the 60-70 mil flat payment you get at the start of the season. Now City are the 55th richest club in the world.
Hampson sold the club in 2024. Interestingly, in his description at the start he’s listed as ‘loving the club’. Don’t think they did their research there.
City ground shared with Kidderminster from the 18/19 season to the 23/24 season, when finally a new stadium was built for the club - unimaginatively called ‘Worcester Stadium’. Unfortunately it met only the minimum requires for The Football League (5000 capacity, 2500 seated), so upon promotion to the Premier City had to groundshare with West Brom while the stadium was upgraded to a 12500 all-seater. Of course, we were relegated by the time the work was complete but our average attendance in the Championship now is just over 11,000, so it’s all good.
I know it’s just a game, but I think these ‘what-if’ scenarios are interesting.
Anyone else tried anything like this?

Really felt like I was watching a Sunday league game at times today with the tackling. There seems to be a lot of players in this league with poor discipline.
Hughes put in another good performance today. I criticised him last month but he’s been winning me over since. Maybe he does have it in him to finish one more season?
It was a strange game today though. It’s the only City game i’ve been to this season where I felt the defenders outperformed the strikers. Not the most interesting game i’ve seen either, but i’ll take anything that helps us to get out of this division.
Edit - Forgot to say, Gwynne had a great game.

Get your facts right, it was his son . Why on earth is this important he probably can't stand you.... Palfrey is the same idiot who tried to get people to boycott New Touch hairdressers because they wouldn’t cut his Grandson’s hair. Think about that. He took it upon himself to try and destroy someone’s business, their livelihood, because he was unhappy he had to travel a bit further to another hairdresser’s. I have no sympathy for that clown. Already explained why it was ‘important’. Also, according to his own facebook it was his Grandson. m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008929963180Might want to get your own facts straight before spouting your mouth off. Saves you looking like a fool.

Also, downthelane is a troll. No-one can constantly take the contrary opinion as often as he does. He doesn’t believe what he’s saying, it’s all just to get a reaction. He’s done really well to keep up the gimmick as long as he has.

This will probably be my last post. All I have tried to do was raise my concerns about The Trust and how open and accessible they are and how this could be improved. It seems that I have been misunderstood with some of the things I have said. I cannot understand why The Trust are reluctant to disclose their membership numbers, it's a genuine question after all??? I don't want to get into all this "we've been waiting 7 years for answers" nonsense, it's like talking to The Chuckle Brothers. There are people who could and would help the Trust, people with contacts and ideas but this Forum is enough to put anyone off getting involved. Good luck ...... TBH some of the things you've suggested I actually agree with but it's always them over there, not me, them over there who've got to put the effort in. Maybe them over there have got enough to be dealing with. As I've said if you want to change or improve things get involved and get active. I don't quite understand what the obsession is with the number of trust members and the complete lack of patience. These people are busy you know. Finally I haven't seen an apology for the totally unjust abuse of Kev Preece and until that happens, good riddance ‘Abuse’ is a bit of a strong term. He put his foot in his mouth by calling him a muppet - probably unaware that he posted here. Insults are dished out pretty freely on this board though, especially the past few weeks.

Discussion got a little heated, but I’d say it stayed within the confines of healthy debate. The only personal slurs I seen were directed at Brad Birch.
Tim admitted that he wasn’t aware of Birch’s previous assault conviction when he posted. So his defence of him was without that in mind, he was just defending someone he had personal experience of.
I criticised Birch in my posts, but I wasn’t aware of his assault conviction either. I’d guess there’s not many that do.
Edit - I’ve not read the other thread he was posting in. Not sure if that’s what this post is referring to rather than the Birch incident.

Well, I'm sticking up for Brad Birch: do any of you "keyboard warriors" who post on here actually know the fellow? He's one of our better players and from what I've seen and when I've spoken to him he seems a really nice bloke. (Remember his intervention at Ludlow to stop trouble?). Ok, so perhaps he's let himself down with that post, but I think he was still fuming at the red card. And what, exactly, has it got to do with Tyler Weir anyway? If, as Brad's post suggested, the referee had his back to the incident, didn't see it and simply re-acted to what the Sherwood players said had happened, then that's a poor piece of refereeing: if neither the referee or the linesman saw the incident then he should have done nothing. It would be really interesting to see footage of the incident before we all jump to conclusions. Yeah. He's a lovely bloke. www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/8949815.City_soccer_hopeful_locked_up_for_attack/How have I never heard this before? What a thug.

I’d assume it was just banter. Even so, Birch should be relieved of the Captain’s armband. Very unprofessional behaviour. I missed him throwing the armband off as he came off the pitch. If true, the guy’s a punk. My opinion of him has come way down. What's wrong with being a punk? You’ve never heard ‘punk’ used as a pejorative?

Btw, Birch’s tweet hasn’t been deleted. If he said it in the heat of the moment, the least he could do was take it down afterwards.

It’s a straightforward case of get rid soonest. No matter what my view on the way the Club is run I am certain that none of the Board wish the club to be associated with anything like this. Let’s hope they act with good sense as they did in the case of fan ban imposed recently. Wouldn’t oppose this even. Get Brad Bitch out of the club.

Birch was a complete clown. It’s seems that every red card City get is for something blatantly a sending off offence. The team aren’t taking games seriously. I know it feels like it, but this isn’t Sunday League. Stop f**k**g the team over with idiotic behaviour.
I would have praised Hughes this week, as he put in one of his better performances. A decent goal and a pretty great assist for Reynolds’ goal. He ruined it by acting the fool in the closing stages of the game though. He really needs to keep his temper in check. He should really be setting a better example.
I would say that Birch should be reprimanded, but what exactly is Hughes supposed to say to him the way he behaved on the pitch today? And Snape’s just as much of a fool for allowing it to happen.
I’m starting to think that poor discipline is just as big of a problem as poor defending for City. Defending was of course, terrible once again. Griffiths should be playing 5 a side for his local pub’s team. Even this tinpot league is far beyond his level.
Yeah, it was a win, and actually quite a fun game, but the quality of football was poor.
P.S. - The poor performance today didn’t overshadow the respect shown during the minute’s silence for Paul Curtis. You could have heard a pin drop. Great show by all at the match today.

That was a pretty standard manager response tbh. Just used a whole lot of words to say ‘we were unlucky’.
That’s not what fans want to hear though, not after 2 consecutive poor games. Give us a reason to be confident ahead of Sherwood Colliery.

Given City’s last game, any extra chance of promotion is good news. It will be a huge embarrassment if we fail to finish in the top 2 though. It would be disappointing to be out of the top two, though not sure it would be a huge embarrassment - Coleshill looked a very good team when we played them & Bromsgrove are having a good season (think I saw their last game on a Saturday was a 1000+ gate). In terms of the quality of the current squad, it wouldn’t be a huge embarrassment, no. In terms of the reputation of the club, it would be. Another user said the other week, that we don’t have an entitlement to promotion just because of our name value, but I don’t see how I can feel that way after watching us 3 levels higher for years. If a Premier League team was suddenly relegated to League Two, there would be uproar amongst their supporters. And nothing else than immediate promotion would be seen as acceptable. In my eyes, it’s the same thing. Unless we do ‘piss this tinpot league’, I won’t be happy.

Forgot to say, Hughes needs to hang up the boots immediately. Other than ego, I can’t see why he keeps playing himself at his age. Snape is equally to blame for allowing it too.

Come on, Snape and Hughes are crap managers get rid, unfortunately this won't happen, abject, clueless pub league and they haven't got a clue this pair are truly useless. Get Matt Gardner back ..... Who ? Pretty certain he means Matthew Gardiner. I was at Blackpool yesterday, but my regret about not being able to go to the game turned to relief when I heard about what an abysmal display City put on. I have limited patience watching my team play in this division, and this bad spell isn’t helping matters. Poor management and a ridiculously wide gap between the quality of the players need fixing immediately. I should be at the cup game next week, but if I don’t see an improvement then I’ll probably take a couple of months off going. I don’t get excited about going anymore, not with this team.

Get real genghis, you're being naive ! This Board under Hampson has lost money hand over fist for season after season - why do you think there's only been 1 partial AGM since 2008 ? And as for the Shawbury fighter, the Board have taken the correct decision, although having watched yesterday's performance, being banned might have its advantages ! www.worcestercityfc.org/news/club-statement-supporter-behaviour-2022078.htmlI know i’m being naive, but if it’s a choice between that and just giving up supporting a club that i’ve followed since I was a child, then i’d rather give the club this one last chance to turn things around. I’m not without limits. Like I keep saying, if City aren’t promoted this season that will be the end of my support for the foreseeable future. What have I got to lose by doing so? I won’t judge Palfrey too harshly since I wasn’t there. I’ve never really liked him though.

Catch 22, promotion relies on spending money, more money than we've probably got, into a division where we will need to spend even more money to stay in that league. And unless there's a huge influx of cash, we won't be looking at any further promotions, as the Board have already admitted that we can't function at Conference League level anymore. On top of that, somehow the club will have to find large amounts of cash to fund any plans that need to be put together for a new ground, and you're looking at 6 figure sums of money for that alone. Maybe i’m naive, but I’m not ready to give up yet. Money can come, but supporters will leave forever if the club continues to wallow in the Midland Premier. Promotion or bust.

I complain plenty, and it is depressing to see the depths that City have fallen. Amazing that up until a couple of years ago I expected to see City playing in the Vanarama National by now. Maybe it’s just a habit I can’t get out of, but I can’t bring myself to give up on the club yet, and will still attend games where I can this season. The club is more than the Board to me. Ask me in May, and I may think differently though. I will admit that this has crossed my mind too. I dismissed the thought though, even this board can’t be so craven to deliberately sabotage promotion. Really? They manipulated our relegation last season into the bowels of Hades. They'll screw things up again if it suits them. You could be right, but the way i’m looking at it is the Board know that support will dwindle even further if the club fail to achieve promotion. Speaking for myself, I will be attending no games at all next season if City are still in the Midland Prem. Hopefully the Board have enough sense to see how critical of an issue promotion is.

The board don't want promotion. If that were to seem a possibility they would sell players and ensure the club stayed in this league. Your support is wasted. I will admit that this has crossed my mind too. I dismissed the thought though, even this board can’t be so craven to deliberately sabotage promotion.

Oh, I know Tony Palfrey. He’s the guy who tried to get people to boycott New Touch Hairdressers after they wouldn’t cut his lad’s hair.
Regardless of who instigated it, i’m really disappointed to hear of City fans behaving in such a way at an away game. Bad enough the team were in poor form without fans embarrassing big us further.
Reynolds is far and away the cream of the crop of the current squad for me. I agree with the consensus that Hughes starting ahead of him is idiocy.
All in all, very glad I didn’t attend today.

Well that was fun. Abject doesn't get close. Truly atrocious "performance" against a side who just wanted it more. Shawbury won every challenge all game, often illegally it must be said, but they were gifted two goals and outfought City. Quite why Hughes still thinks he can play is beyond me, especially at the expense of Reyno who was only on the bench. Hughes' legs have gone, he doesn't make the runs or pull defenders around like Reyno does. We started sloppily with nobody seeming up for the game, and they walked through for the opener on 16, Albert Alexandru certainly ain't a right back, no positional sense at all. Then Danks had another brain fart and stamped on his marker, straight red. Idiotic. Alex Tomlkinson equalised with a good finish from 15 yards on 37 minutes after Hughes' pass deflected nicely for him, but then City failed to clear a set piece and a cracking volley put the home side back in front. You'd expect City would have worked out the swirling wind was making direct football difficult and that passing it around and using the pace of Sarmento would be a better option, but no it was hoof and hope for the rest of the game. Reyno was on at half time for Tomkinson rather than Hughes, but he hardly saw the ball as the only plan seemed to be to lump it towards Hughes. Yes Shawbury were very robust and a tad naughty at times, but if City have any aspirations of promotion then you have to be up for the fight on wet and windy days at supposedly lesser sides. We lost this before we kicked off because the team seemed to think it would be a stroll. Snape has all the tactical nous of roadkill, and someone needs to get it into Hughes's bonce the he needs to hang 'em up now, he's a liability on the pitch. Not good enough. When a friend of mine text me the score, I thought he was taking the piss. I checked the twitter feed afterwards and found out he wasn’t. I hope the team issues an apology for what sounds like an embarrassing performance. All jokes aside, Snape and Hughes shouldn’t be managing the team. I can’t afford to be patient with them, not at the level we’re playing at. It’s promotion or bust for me. Very surprised to hear about Danks. I don’t think i’ve seen any other instances of him being ill-tempered yet. Apparently there was a fight amongst supporters after the match too. Were any City fans involved?

Who said they were bad people or less of a supporter than anyone? I merely pointed out that by not standing up and being counted they have helped to condemn the club to oblivion. They might not have meant to, but that's the end result. If that makes me elitist then so be it. All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. I get you probably don’t mean it that way, but that way of thinking can lead to an ‘us’ and ‘them’ mentality. The last thing the club needs is division amongst the supporters too. Clubs are built on the back of casual fans. The fans who only care about the football and nothing else. Whether good or bad, it’ll always be that way.
