How many of you have played as Worcester in FM hoping to do a better job than the current establishment?
In the game i’m currently playing, it’s the 29/30 season and City are sitting at 12th in the Championship after 25 games.
My season progress is as follows:
16/17 season - 17th Vanarama North 17/18 - 1st Vanarama North 18/19 - 20th Vanarama National 19/20 - 15th Vanarama National 20/21 - 4th Vanarama National (promoted via playoffs, City also went professional at the end of this season) 21/22 - 22nd League Two 22/23 - 22nd League Two 23/24 - 11th League Two 24/25 - 2nd League Two 25/26 - 15th League One 26/27 - 3rd League One 27/28 - 6th Championship (Promoted via playoffs) 28/29 - 20th Premiership 29/30 - Current Season
If the original 16/17 Worcester City squad, Steele lasted the longest. He could still play competitively in League Two. It wasn’t until the 25/26 season where I needed to sell.
All but Cieran Keane have retired by 2030. He’s currently playing for Staines Town in the VNS. Graham Hutchinson is Manager is currently manager of Forest Green. I did employ Hutch as a Coach for a while before he moved into management instead.
True to form, City start the game with poor finances. The club was almost constantly in debt until the single season we spent In the Premier. The Tv fees you receive are ridiculous in the Prem. 1.2 mil per game plus the 60-70 mil flat payment you get at the start of the season. Now City are the 55th richest club in the world.
Hampson sold the club in 2024. Interestingly, in his description at the start he’s listed as ‘loving the club’. Don’t think they did their research there.
City ground shared with Kidderminster from the 18/19 season to the 23/24 season, when finally a new stadium was built for the club - unimaginatively called ‘Worcester Stadium’. Unfortunately it met only the minimum requires for The Football League (5000 capacity, 2500 seated), so upon promotion to the Premier City had to groundshare with West Brom while the stadium was upgraded to a 12500 all-seater. Of course, we were relegated by the time the work was complete but our average attendance in the Championship now is just over 11,000, so it’s all good.
I know it’s just a game, but I think these ‘what-if’ scenarios are interesting.
Anyone else tried anything like this?

FM 15 version still as I couldn't be arsed to buy a new one every year. Unbeatable for many years now. Trying to post a screen grab. Colby Bishop is the greatest striker in the world, we've won nine consecutive Champions Leagues and have got a huge stadium. Attachments:

I'm calling cheat on that. Using the editor?

I suspect Colby Bishop’s stats may have been padded a bit lol.
Teej, does Hampson still own the club in that game?

Hampson sold out to someone called Kevin Crane in 2019, who invested heavily. New ground 2022 after sharing at Harriers and then Hereford for a while when Aggborough was being developed. Colby had very high potential, he's one of the random stat players I think in the game. Has good finishing and anticipation. Only editing was bringing in and shipping out players at the very start of the game to get the squad as close as possible to the squad then, and setting them to realistic positions and stats. No editing of player current ability or potential.

That’s pretty impressive then. Especially Bishop still playing at that level in 2032 lol. I really wanted as much of the original 16/17 squad for as long as possible, but once we got to League Two, only Steele and Nelson-Addy were still practical to play.
Comparing the in-game stats to reality is always interesting. Nelson-Addy is heavily overrated in-game.
FM18 came out today, but i don’t know if I will bother to purchase. They only seem to make minor additions to the game every year. I’d have to use the editor to play as Worcester too, and likely none of the players stock photos are in the game since they’re not intended to be played.
Taking City from the Midland Premier to the Premiership would be interesting though.

Nelson-Addy is heavily overrated in real life too! Bought Bishop back, he wasn't with the club all throughout. Got Weir and Geddes as youth coaches as well from the old gang. And Matt Gardiner is still assistant manager!

I've been playing the FM18 beta - some interesting new part in social groups within the squad have been added, and if you set up as a former sunday league player taking the reigns of a professional club, there's a very good chance the squad don't listen to you very much initially. I've been sacked twice already. Once from QPR, once from Notts County after failing to get any consistency.
Currently trying out Oxford United - Somewhat better results.
edit: don't buy the game full price - check the club shops of teams in the game - they get a load of free copies to sell, often at cut prices... I think we were selling them at £20 a pop last season. Check clubs like Gloucester and I'm sure you'll find a copy on the cheap.

That’s good advice, thanks. I’ll be much more willing to buy if it’s less than the full price of £37.99. How many of the game features are available in the beta? I saw a video about the new social groups feature. That does look interesting. Do you still get hassled by the press every couple of days linking you with a job at another club? The press are one of my biggest annoyances with FM17. You’d think after 14 years at the same club they’d stop constantly asking me these questions. I’m hoping for improved team-talks too. If i’m winning a game 4-0 at half-time then go on to draw 4-4, the team should not become disheartened and confused when I admonish them for how they played, just because we weren’t considered favourites for the game. This is particularly annoying when all your coaches and Assustant Manager recommend that I should congratulate the team for how they played. It’s just little things like that which i’d want to see improved on. In terms of on-pitch gameplay, the game has improved loads over the years. Much greater tactical options now. The team can play much closer to the style you want them to play. Nelson-Addy is heavily overrated in real life too! Bought Bishop back, he wasn't with the club all throughout. Got Weir and Geddes as youth coaches as well from the old gang. And Matt Gardiner is still assistant manager! I would have kept Hutchinson too, but he suffered from injuries all throughout his career. He retired early at 31. When I took him on as a Coach I think he only did a year before leaving to manage in the Irish Leagues. Most of the players seemed to retire rather than move into non-playing roles though.

It came yesterday morning. Thanks for the advice. I used the editor to make all leagues down to Level 10 in the pyramid playable. I’m impressed by how much research the game developers did on the lower level teams that weren’t meant to be playable. In your first press conference upon taking over Worcester they talk about City’s ‘grim times’ after dropping 3 divisions. That detail actually impressed me.

There's an article on the BBC Sport website today about the amount of research they do these days, and how clubs actually use it to find players! The 2015 edition also features local journalists Daryll (sic) Butler and Julian Pugh!

Haha, i’ll make sure to do that. There's an article on the BBC Sport website today about the amount of research they do these days, and how clubs actually use it to find players! The 2015 edition also features local journalists Daryll (sic) Butler and Julian Pugh! Yeah, i’ve seen a few articles like this. Apparently, they employ actual scouts to gather the necessary information of the players abilities. That’s an interesting tidbit about the journalist names. I’ve never paid attention to what they’re called, so i’ll need to keep my eye out on that.

Anyone picking up FM19 this year?
Looking forward to the release, more than I do FIFA. Might use the editor to start City in the VNN this time. Starting from the Midland Prem actually wasn’t too enjoyable.
