I am also pulling out of Big Match, so there's a managers vacancy if someone wants it. I'm afraid the Morrison debacle has greatly diminished my interest in the club. I'll take the family out for a meal that evening instead. I'll gladly fill the managerial void if that's possible RW

I can confirm that for this season I have agreed to be caretaker manager of the Home Team. Notorious Boo Boy has agreed to assist me on the night.
I have decided that I will be managing the side in the style of Ron Atkinson, so get practising the lollipops Home Team!

Dave - best for you to read up on this in preparation. www.ronglish.com/I shall be effecting the verbal stylings of Damien Richardson ( www.dangerhere.com/hallofguff/damien_richardson.php ) and the managerial style of Seán Connor... I am also awaiting a delivery of flares for use by the sparse crowd - I expect to also see plenty of flags and such...

Whether one is blessed with a prodigious flair for articulacy or merely entrusted with a basic monosyllabic uttering of contentment, the relevance of this coming Big Match will stimulate in every blue and white heart at least a temporary escalation in embellished eloquence, so as to allow all an opportunity to express the most wondrous sense of anticipation and excitement that lies within.

I think participants should learn to speak the monosyllabic lingo favoured by the big names in their post-match interviews, along with that strange tense (I've never quite been able to work out which it is) which goes along the lines of "he's coming in on the blind side and I've seen it coming and just let fly and it's gone in". You know the sort of thing.
That's just in case there are any post-match interviews of course.

Modern football is akin to a turbulent sea. Changes come fast and furious. One may be riding the crest of great waves before being engulfed in enormous crescendos of confusion. Sometimes is can be like surfboarding in the South Atlantic. You do the best you can to stay afloat while all the time fully understanding the fact that things can come crashing down around you. If you worry about the consequences you miss the thrill of the ride.

You're gonna have all these written down for Friday night, aren't you? Pinned to the dressing room wall I'll bet!

If we're going to have notes pinned to the wall any chance of making them a bit more succinct and pithy?
"Modern football is akin to a turbulent sea. Changes come fast and furious. One may be riding the crest of great waves before being engulfed in enormous crescendos of confusion." doesn't exactly stick in the memory.

It's all part of the big inspirational build-up though. We're not supposed to remember it, or even take it in. It makes the manager feel better and he is thus more likely to turn a blind eye to the shortcomings on the pitch!
It was Barrie Williams, the Sutton United manager, who used to use Shakespeare in his pre-match talks, when they had that FA Cup run. Let's do it the way our Barry Williams did!

Barry Williams used to use Shakespeare? I knew he was on something; nobody could be that good without being on something.

It will be myself and not Mr Rock who will deliver the team talk. I have already started to prepare the inspirational call to arms, and in doing so have consulted a football management legend.
It promises to be a cracker!

"....in doing so have consulted a football management legend" Is that Big Ron? or Jock?
"It promises to be a cracker!" Is that the game or the team talk?

Hopefully both!
The team talk is being produced in consultation with a manager who has managed some of the top teams in the country and been involved in quite a few cup finals over the years. He has provided some real gems of wisdom that will be revealed on Friday week!

Dave - I have also been in contact with a top level football club with regards to motivational items that will be pinned up around the dressing room on Friday week.
There are some very good 'uns
As for the team talk - I will, with your blessing, do the bit at the end when the Assistant normally roars "Let's go out and ******* do them"
