I would not be at all surprised if Adam Burley left. I have been suspicious that this "illness" he has been suffering from recently may be linked to a desire to leave the club.
Hopefully we are looking to recoup the fee we paid for him though (assuming he is still under contract.)

It wouldn't surprise me either, another long distance traveller, who given a more local option with probably the same money, sees the no-brainer. Another poor signing by Andy Preece - no better than many other left backs in this league, and on a par with a 56 year old Paul Carty!!!

And was yet another four-figure transfer fee that we have potentially wasted!
Was glad to hear Richard Dryden say at the fans forum that he will be looking to strengthen the squad without splashing out lots of transfer fees.

The link didn't work for me, but agree with above comments. Hopefully WCFC has learnt that spending big money is not the answer?

Just for you ealing...
"GAINSBOROUGH TRINITY have launched a bid to bring former Northolme favourite Adam Burley back to the Blue Square North club.
With Paul Mitchell's side having failed to record a win in any competition since October 27, Trinity are hoping the Worcester City defender (pictured right) could add some steel to their squad.
"I've been looking for leaders, players who can get the most out of the players we've got, and I think Adam has that" said Mitchell.
"There are players who are winners in a Sven Goran Eriksson way and some in a Neil Warnock way.
"We've got a few quiet players in the squad, but Adam is a hell of a player who other players will react to."
Mitchell confirmed Burley was keen on a move and that Trinity had lodged a bid for the player, who departed the Northolme in 2006.
"The ball is in Worcester's court now and we're hoping he will join before Saturday's home game against Workington" said Mitchell.
"There are lots of reasons why I want him here. For example, when you lose a game of football you don't want to be around Adam Burley. He still mixes with plenty of our lads and they all like him and respect him."
For the full story see today's Lincolnshire Echo."

Looked on occasion to have the potential to be the player Andy Preece said he was. Unfortunately, those occasions were far too few and far between.
Lovely goal against Kettering in the mud last season though.

I hope Adam Burley stays, and completes his intended move over Xmas to the North Worcestershre area.

We should know at least two things by now...... 1) you can't take anything you read in newspapers as gospel 2) Paul Mitchell loves the sound of his own voice.
Can't say I'd miss Burley, he's a disciplinary liability and in his own words "basically a pisshead", I'd rather have footballers at the club.

For me, all Burley's best performances were away from home; he never seemed to reproduce this form at the Lane. The goal against Kettering was a sublime moment, as was Georgie Dragon's celebratory slide in the mud shortly afterwards!

I'll actually be sorry to see Burley go if he does, always did a job when needed !

Well, most people seem to be complementing Richard on his comments on another thread, in which he mentions him seeing Burlo continuing as a Worcester City player.
I'll stick to what I've said before. The most immediate work within the squad needs to be done in midfield, not in defence. If Jamie Price can continue his form on the left, then Burlo would seem a very good candidate to play behind him. Shabs providing left-back and centre-half 'cover'.
It is sounding like the new centre-half, Kevin Spencer, is much more than a loan signing. He did alright on Saturday, though it was difficult to gauge within (an increasingly tiring) back three.
For me, the right side of midfield slot is vital for our progression - including over the coming weeks.

Regular readers will know that I consider " the best left back in the League " to have been a truly dreadful signing. As correctly said before " a disciplinary liability ", often running over to get involved in situations that the ref had under control and that were nothing to do with him. Allied to this, his uncanny knack of getting caught out of position and abiliity to " switch off " defensively means I'll be glad to see the back of him. Any fee would be a bonus in trying to recoup the outrageous fee the City paid for him.

Quite honestly there's a few journeymen in our squad that have no passion for City other than the pay cheque - I hope to see a few more leave, and a few midland based players added ... but that's just my view

Good view Blackpole.
Almost every game this season had a different set of players. And now 3 varieties of management teams.
This is a survival season, And that is the new Management's job. No play off dreams, just get to May 2008 and see what BSS throws into the division.

I hadnt realised that Burley was another one of those "substantial four figure fee" transfers. Only WCFC could have thrown money at such a mediocre player. hopefully those days are now behind us, and the new man will bring in grafters who want to prove themselves at City by being successful.

If I remember correctly AP described him as the best defender in the league and everyone was after him. He doesnt inspire me and I agree with Blackpole that he is just after the pay cheque but I think that of practically all the squad!
He has played well occasionally but I will never forget the time he was slapped by another player and he grabbed his face and threw himself on the floor!

It shows something of a weakness in Preece that he should pay good money for an average defender, yet Barty picked up a Wales U21 international defender for no fee! I think I know which one will be the better option!

I think I know which one will be the better option! Wales midfielder though isn't he really? I like Adam Burley, he gives 100% effort has no little skill and is a real attacking option in a good side. As has been noted above, I typically see more away performances and Adam has regulalrly been one of our best players in the games he played in. I am not convinced that Adam was totally comfortable in a 3-5-2 system and I personally would like to see a Burly / Price left sided combination - both good ball players and both decent enough defenders! I'm intrigued about Andy B's reference to a potential move to North Worcestershire - this seems at odds with the ex-Gainsborough managers view of things.

Lot os speculation. I think Adam is a good player and we would have to go dome to find someone better. He has a winners attitude and also a very good left foot. Burly at Left back Price left midfield would be a good poosible combo. I thgink that the travelling has impacted on home performances of distance based players over the last 2 seasons. If AB moved nearer then I am sure we would see the best of him at the Lane. One advantage of 4-4-2 for full backs is that they should have a bit of cover in front of them which tends to help them look a bit better.

Yes I take your point Manc, and I also think Burley is far more a full back than a wingback. But I think he's no better than just okay. He also seems to be a bit of a "sicknote"

Im pretty sure the groundwork to bring Price in to the club was done before Preecey left, the arrival just happened to coincide with Barty being in charge.

According to the Worcester New, no offers have been made for Burley by Gainsborough.

Surely if he's moving to North Worcestershire a transfer back to Gainsboro' would be a nonsense. I must be one of the few who actually like him, both as a bloke and as a player. I've seen him play a few good games.
I did hear the rumour two weeks ago that it was him that wanted to go back to Gainsboro' and not the other way round, but if their manager has resigned..........

Thanks for the info, Wayne.
Good luck, Burlo! I'll miss you, but not as much as the girls will!! Hope everything works out, job and football-wise. Enjoy the extra time that you'll save in travelling.
I guess with Shabs and jamie Price in the left-back position, we might be looking most immediately to bring in a right-sided midfielder soon.
