surely you of all clubs realise why teams have to move? clearing of debts, sustainable future etc etc. Manor Park was a football ground. It was atmospheric. It was crap. Liberty Way is a stadium built to provide revenue. Simple ah yes - all is clear now... Have some shocking Airfix kit floodlights that fail twice at the drop of a hat so the game is abandoned and replayed - then coin in the cash from the resultant replay. I suppose that's what you meant by "a stadium built to provide revenue" ;D what a surprise - he seems to have vanished off the face of the earth probably still queuing down the Post Office waiting to pay the electric bill. To quote the great George Hamilton based on what i've seen of your contributions on this elsewhere moley: "You Sir - are an idiot!"

Motherwell captain O'Donnell diesMotherwell captain Phil O'Donnell has died after collapsing towards the end of his side's Scottish Premier League game against Dundee United. The 35-year-old midfielder fell to the ground just as he was about to be replaced with Marc Fitzpatrick near the end of Motherwell's 5-3 victory. O'Donnell was treated for around five minutes on the field before being taken to a waiting ambulance. But his death was later confirmed by the Fir Park club. Motherwell chief executive Ian Stillie said: "The management, directors, players and fans are all stunned and having great difficulty in comprehending what has happened over the last few hours. "At this stage, we do not have all the facts surrounding the tragic death of Phil O'Donnell. "We have been in contact with Phil's wife, Eileen, and his family and they have given us their blessing to speak to the media. "Phil collapsed during the second-half of the game. He was standing alone at the time. "He was immediately attended to by Motherwell's club doctor and assisted by Dundee United's club doctor. "He was transferred almost immediately to an awaiting ambulance and taken to Wishaw General. "It is believed Phil suffered some form of seizure and was pronounced dead at 1718." PHIL O'DONNELL'S CAREER 1972 - born in Hamilton 1991 - joins Motherwell 1991 - scores in Scottish Cup final victory over Dundee United 1993 - earns only Scotland cap against Switzerland 1994 - sold to Celtic for a club record £1.75m 1999 - signs for Sheffield Wednesday 2003 - released after injury-hit spell at Wednesday 2004 - returns to Motherwell, becoming club captain O'Donnell, who earned one cap for Scotland, was lauded as one of the country's brightest talents when he broke into the Motherwell first team as a teenager. He moved on to Celtic for a club record £1.75m fee, but injury problems were to blight his time with the Glasgow club and his next club, Sheffield Wednesday. O'Donnell returned to Motherwell in 2004 and became club captain, playing beside his nephew, David Clarkson. Motherwell owner John Boyle said: "Everyone at Motherwell is shocked to the core and we are sure that everyone involved in Scottish football will feel the same. "Phil was not only an inspirational player for Motherwell and club captain but was an inspirational person." Motherwell manager Mark McGhee had said immediately after the game that O'Donnell's substitution had been "an absolute coincidence" before his sudden seizure. The manager had simply been looking to give his captain a rest ahead of Wednesday's game against Hibernian, which has been postponed in light of the player's death. O'Donnell's nephew, David Clarkson, was substituted moments later after scoring two goals in the match. "We took Clarkson off because he got a fright from the nature of the collapse," said McGhee. "We are all totally devastated. This is a shocking tragedy." Motherwell striker Chris Porter added: "His number had come up for him to go off and he literally just passed out. "He went down and no-one really knew what had happened. "Doctors and physios ran on, he was unconscious on the floor and it was clear he was in a bad way, but personally I never thought anything would happen. "Everyone thought he would be okay and he had just fainted, so it was a real shock to find out he had passed away." Story from BBC SPORT: news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/motherwell/7164150.stmPublished: 2007/12/29 18:38:01 GMT © BBC MMVII =================================== I remember him from his best days at Celtic and with Simon Donnelly at Sheffield Wednesday - tragic when someone passes in this way. apparently his wife and kids were in the stands as well as his nephew on the pitch at the time

Cup game abandoned - third attempt required From the archive, first published Thursday 23rd Nov 2000. THE saga of the controversial HFA County Challenge Cup first round tie between Westfields and Wellington took another twist on Saturday when the match was abandoned in extra time. Referee Andy Williams called a halt to proceedings less than five minutes into the extra period after hosts Wellington were reduced to six men, following four sending-offs and an injury to Jerry Griffiths. The game will have to be played for a third time this Saturday at Wellington, kick-off 2pm, and all four Wellington men who were dismissed are eligible for the rematch as any suspensions will not come into force for around three weeks. The scores were locked at 2-2 after 90 minutes on Saturday, but the scoreline took a back seat as a quartet of Wellington players - Andy Morrison, Mark Fish, Willie Lindesay and Mark Cross - saw red. Morrison and Fish were dismissed for the use of bad language, and Lindesay went following two bookings. Griffiths left the field for hospital treatment to a head injury and, as Wellington had already used all their substitutes, they were left with just seven players. The dismissal of Cross in extra time, for serious foul play, reduced Wellington to six men and left referee Williams with no choice but to abandon the match. Williams, from Kingstone, who has experience as an FA Carling Premiership official, penalised Cross for a foul in his own penalty area on Mark Hibbard. Westfields' Derek Craddock went on to put the ball in the net, but Cross was sent off and a penalty awarded. However, the match was abandoned before the spot kick could be taken as Wellington had less than the minimum requirement of seven players on the field. Earlier, Westfields had gone two up through goals from Adi Powell and Mark Hibbard, before a Wellington comeback was initiated with a Peter Wallace header. The home side were then reduced to eight men, but equalised with a 30-yard screamer from Owen Marriott to take the match into extra time. The rematch this Saturday will be the third attempt to complete the tie, after the original encounter - won 2-1 with a golden goal by Wellington - had to be played again due to an administrative error. Under HFA rules, golden goals only apply to replays of senior cup matches. The HFA confirmed that in the event of the rematch finishing level after extra time, a replay would be required. I'm in with Darrell on this shed thing. If it's pissing down with rain where do we get to stand under cover? And don't anyone say in front of the stand 'cos as a "undesirable" smoker I don't stand there. If Telford bring more than the allocation for the segregated part of the ground, (canal end and block D), then that's unlucky for them that can't get in! Unless of course the club's view is merely the pound notes a stuff the hardcore ... it will be interesting blackpole - if it's raining you are more than welcome to join myself in a nice dry pub nearby watching the Premiership stuff and Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports over a nice pint

Fella - if I wasn't involved in local semi-pro football to the extent I am - then I'd happily offer my services as a fully FETAC Qualified Steward (which entitles me to steward at any FAI or FIFA International match played in the Republic of Ireland) - and point out where you are going wrong.
(I did two seasons of working for a Premier Division Club in Ireland on their Security Team - best moment I can remember was having a lit flare thrown at me by some Cork City fans a couple of seasons back) I still have my blue jacket somewhere...

It wasn't Telford fans outisde with bats last time - it was the local skanger element. Big difference.
And as for the Shed being closed? If true then that's a ludicrous decision - in all my 22-years of going to home games I cannot recall the Shed being closed for ANY game (including the dark days of threats of "hooliganism" during the 80s, and the big Cup games down the years). A packed Shed gives us a big advantage during these big matches imo (the Accy Cup Replay being the prime example from a couple of seasons back)
Just shows how little faith the club have in the inadequate arrangements that pass for "stewarding" inside the ground - tantamount to the club admitting "if anything starts to happen inside the ground then we haven't a hope in hell of restoring order" so we'll take a sledgehammer to crack a very small walnut that might not even present itself. Why should the proper fans be penalised thanks to shoddy practices in place elsewhere? The sooner we get our heads out the sand and start having properly trained and accredited Security personnel on duty at games instead of a couple of old codgers or those who just want to watch the game for free the better.
I'll be glad of the day when we have to implement Club Licensing and this kind of nonsense is put to bed once and for all...
FFS. Why not give Telford a goal start while we're at it?

Nobody cares what you think im afraid so .... Actually a lot of people do care about what Colin thinks, and that goes from supporters, to citizens of Worcester, and to the Directors of WCFC. Ask yourself preecey, why do you want to be a steward? Easy answer - he likes to save the £9 for other things ;D Nice to see how an employee (paid or not - I don't know tbh) of our illustrious club treats the paying customer

Nobody cares what you think im afraid so .... Wow - I've seen it all now! Ignore/belittle (delete as appropriate) the paying customer and people who take their spare time to help us stay in the League (for if the ground isn't maintained and such then we fail the ground grading and get chucked out of the League). Way to keep the fan base fella - it's comments like that which potentially drive away the casual fan who ends up at Sixways instead. You seriously can't buy PR like that folks - look and learn!

Mourinho to Worcester - Come and get me
Wednesday, 28 November 2007 07:42
Jose Mourinho is ready and willing to talk to Dave Boddy about the vacant Worcester City manager's role.
The former Chelsea boss has emerged as the fans' favourite to take over the reins from Andy Preece, who was dismissed a few weeks ago after his failure to beat Hucknall.
Worcester Chairman Dave Boddy began his hunt for the new boss within the week - and contrary to an apparent consensus that he would not be tempted by the job, Mourinho admits he would welcome an approach.
'You will have to speak to the club to see if they are interested in offering me the job,' he told The Sun.
'I cannot say what I think until they say they are interested. Tell Worcester to come and get me.
'We will have to wait and see, but I rule nothing out.'
