Greenwich Borough currently mid table in The Southern Counties East League, (Step 5) but for some strange reason have played far fewer games than anyone else (played only 7 matches whereas league leaders have played 13). They have only lost two and are currently on a 10 match unbeaten run. I know Carl & Co won't take them lightly but they certainly look a potential 'banana skin' and this is the FA Cup! Come on City!

I see Ian Wright is a former Greenwich player so that may attract some media coverage to the tie.

The reason they've played so few league matches is, surely, 'cos they've gone thro' five rounds of the Cup, namely as follows:-
Extra Preliminary Round beat Lancing FC 2-1 (H) Preliminary Round beat St Francis Rangers 5-2 (H) 1st Rd Qualifying beat Chessington & Hook United 1-0 (H) 2nd Rd Qualifying beat Beaconsfield SYCOB 3-1 (A) 3rd Rd Qualifying beat Redhill 1-0 (H)

Anybody been on that ground before?

No, but come close on a couple of occasions, though played on their old ground, complete with privet hedge round the perimeter in Eltham...
Btw, why didn't the thread about Sunday's game use this thread?
And can threads be merged on here, incidentally?

No threads can't be merged I am afraid, they can only be moved to different areas of the board

I wondered why somebody started another thread on the same subject. Can the moderators block a thread with a message that advises readers to use the original thread?
This duplication of threads often happens.

This duplication of threads often happens. Hardly the same subject one about Greenwich as a club etc the other about weather we could open up the south stand for the game, Perhaps we should have one big thread where we could discuss things from Carl Heeley's tactics to the value for money of the meat pies and anything in between ; )

We used to, but a few people didn't like it, cos they just wanted to talk about football. So consequently hardly anyone writes on this board anymore.

Greenwich player manager on non league show this morning
Seems like they are an ambitious club, obviously on a cracking run. They came up north yesterday for an overnight stay so will be fresh!
Have a feeling it will be a tight game......

1/2 time 1-0 & niels started some of the most depressing music I've ever heard at a football match..... Thankfully the music got far better. As for the match although we are completely running the match Greenwich have shown a few good signs & are better opposition than I was expecting Good game to watch It'll end up 3 or 4 nil I think

When they started pushing school kids around the City fans did what the stewards would have done 15 minutes earlier

Ummmm, they score, a city "so called" fan immediately punches one of them in the face. BUT they started the trouble As I said before, let's hope cctv or the camera captured the start of it. AND I suppose the 50 plus muppets that joined in were totally innocent as well. Must have been a nice day out together for West Ham & Millwall fans....... Get a grip stgeorge

Why were they stood in amongst the home fans when they were kicking the other way?? Why were they singing Worcester's a sh*thole etc? Got what they deserved and your version of events is different to what I saw. Worcester fans weren't innocent but were definitely provoked

And Jimbo, if that's the most depressing thing you've ever heard at a football match then I suggest that you haven't been paying very close attention to some of the other stuff that I have subjected people to.

Don't come on this board as much as I used to , but I agree with St George they were kids and I believe there were only 4 or so called grenwich fans who wanted to fight not our fans .

Sticking to the football, definitely City's first half. Whether the visitor's were overawed, gave us too much respect or we were playing better 1-0 was a narrow advantage to show for our efforts. Despite our control in this period their keeper, the goal aside, was not unduly tested. A couple of efforts from Wright going inches wide.
The second half progressed with little seen of City in the attacking third. The visitors with nothing to lose gained confidence and with their more direct play started to ask questions of City's back line. When they drew level courtesy of a mistake the signs looked worrying for City. Too many times in the past we have lost to supposedly inferior opposition. I for one would have taken the draw with 10 mins to go. But this team rallied and pressed on to get the winner and job done.
For me their keeper was a class act, in the second half his handling and positioning was assured, he spilled nothing, cutting out numerous crosses before they could develop into dangerous situations. He denied Nti when he was through on goal when the scores were level, pushing the ball behind for a corner (I think we scored from it?). Then Wright with a terrific save from a blistering shot that would have sealed the victory.
If the visitor's play 3 levels below City then one can see why they have had a terrific run. Their keeper oozes calmness and confidence (I am not sure if has played at a higher level) which spreads through their defence. In midfield they can battle with the best and they have a direct approach up front which troubled us.
Here's hoping for a home draw.

I won't waste time on terrace based idiocy whatever side it came from, let's focus on what it's really all about which is what happened on the pitch. At first sight strange that we looked rock solid in defence, dominated the game in midfield and yet our nerves were shredded until we got the winner. But when you think about it for a moment it was all about an old failing once again - poor decision making in and around the opposition box. We tried to be far too clever and intricate at times attempting three, four or five little flicks, touches and passes on the edge of the penalty area. Nick Wright was a serial offender. It seems common sense to me that you are increasing the chances of losing the ball x 4 or 5 instead of a quick one two and a shot, or using the flanks to get around the defence. But we got there in the end!!! Hurry back Symmo, someone who can hold the ball and create openings. But there was lots of endeavour, hard work and be difficult for anyone to argue we didn't deserve it. Well done boys. Ellis Deeney superb again as a ball-winner and play maker and Jordan Murphy looked a real threat in the first half, he's a talented lad and quick with it. Tyler and George both had good games down the flanks and Jacob and Thommo were rock solid. In fact apart from their goal I can't remember them having any kind of shot. Here's to the next Round!!!!!
And by the way that music IS really depressing, several people around me have said the same thing, aren't we supposed to play something to lift the spirits and fire everyone up instead of a funeral march?

On the football. Massive well done to Carl, Matt, Snapper and all of the lads, they have done so so well second half of last season and so far this. Still unbeaten at Aggborough, bring on a league side and a massive day for this club

Thanks for the match reports Stamoo and Simples. I was following the game from afar and was relieved when I saw the early lead. Their goalkeeper appears to have had a good game and that seems to have spread to their defence. However, how many times do you see teams going into a 1:0 lead in a cup match then hitting a period of indecision - hold on to the lead or push forward? - and the opposition have a good spell. Anyway undefeated at home, broken a lengthy unbesten run of a good Cup team and into the next Round, Sounds good to me!

Stamoo. Could you be a bit more specific about which music you and your friends find depressing. As I play everything from the current number one single to music hall and everything in-between, I need some specifics to examine your complaint. Or perhaps you mean the Theme from Romeo & Juliet (also the theme tune to The Apprentice) which I sometimes play before the teams come out, which some people love and some dislike. Let me know. I assumed Jimbo meant the theme from the Detectorists, as everything else was fairly upbeat especially the first record at half time which was the Poptastic "All About The Bass", Britain's No1. I try and not play too rowdy music in the first half of half time as I assume that people want to discuss what they have just seen. But I'm flexible and can dust off my Black Lace and Chuckle Brothers albums if you like.

Great to see that this City side has a fighting quality after what sounded like a battling win in that second half. A couple of seasons ago we would have lost that game (or lost in a replay). Well done City. Gateshead or Blyth away for me please
