Hi There, I don't know how many of you who know Tony, but those that saw him for his brief visit to SGL on Saturday realised straight away he was a very unwell man. After some sound advice from Dave Wood at SGL he went home and several texts from concerned parties and myself after the match Tony booked himself an urgent doctors appointment. On Monday Tony went to the surgery but never made it through the door as he lost the use of his legs. Because I had offered to take him there early that morning Tony contacted me from the surgery, knowing I was probably one of the few he could ask when most were at work and asked if I could take him from the Doctors surgery up to the Worcester Royal where he was admitted as an urgent case. I won't give out details for general consumption as Tony deserves a bit of dignity and privacy in that respect but those in the know are aware of the problem. I am sad to say though it is quite serious and Tony will probably be in hospital for some time. If any of you that know him can spare the time to visit him even if just for a few minutes now and again to break up the monotony of his stay I am sure it and would be appreciated plus will lift his spirits which will I hope will aid his recovery in the long term. I won't lie to you he does not look well and some may be shocked by his appearance but don't let that put you off, the old Tony is in there but sometimes the drugs the hospital use may make him a bit drowsy and incoherent. Please try to visit when you can I think the number of visitors is limited to three and of course his parents and sister may be visiting when you arrive but don't let that put you off spending a few minutes. I appreciate most of us are usually at work but perhaps you could visit in the evening or over the weekend. Both I and Joe Wood have visited so far but the more of you that could I'm sure would let him know he is in your thoughts and help him fight this battle he has. He is currently in the AMU (Acute Medical Unit) on the second floor. Many thanks Regards Simon

This is awful news. Tony was a great bloke who loved watching the City and was always ready to help out. Only recently he saw my query re: tickets for the final game at the Lane and went to the trouble of getting me a ticket and making sure I got it at the away match at Stalybridge. A real gent.
The club has lost some real stalwarts in the last couple of years. RIP.

Utterly stunned and saddened by this news. I was driving home over the weekend thinking about when I could go and see him this week. Tony was an amazing guy, one of the nicest, kindest men that i have known. We had frank discussions from time to time, but his opinion was always worth listening to, and he was the kind of supporter who would always go the extra mile for the good of the club. He did some great work behind the scenes, most of it will never become public knowledge, but I will never now get the chance to thank him for helping me in some of the battles against the forces that have destroyed our once fine club. Not that he ever asked for help! A great guy, and a true City supporter. RIP Tony.

Have just heard the terrible news , did not even know he was in hospital am gutted. I have Known Tony since i was seventeen and we had flats opposite each other on Droitwich Road. Since i moved up here have met up with him on train stations all over northern england on our way to watching the City and he was a proper supporter, loved the City and a great mate .
Watching Worcester away will never be the same for me ever again. RIP mate !

Very sad news. Known Tony by sight for years but only got to know him properly over last couple of years when I ditched car travel for the train.Sort of guy who would ring up to say that there were some cheap ticket options available for such and such a venue. He didn't have to do that for a bloke he didn't really know very well but that sums up the kind of man he was.I am just glad that I did get to know him that little bit .RIP

I am shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of another stalwart City supporter. As others have mentioned, the club has lost some loyal and dedicated supporters in recent years including Kieran Mooney, Sarah Bushell and Dave Bayliss to mention just a few.
I would like us to pay tribute to all of those we have lost in recent years before Big Match 11 on 31st May. Perhaps we could have a list of names read out before the kick off and pay tribute with a minutes silence or applause?

An excellent and fitting tribute Dave, I would say that these good people deserve our finest applause, on a night where we will be saying goodbye to the Worcester City that we once knew. Lets raise the roof on the stand in their memory.

Why not the Chester game with a near full house, that would really be an atmosphere !

Why not the Chester game with a near full house, that would really be an atmosphere ! Chester will be a sad day as it is. I'll actually be very angry that day, and there will be people at SGL that I will be both angry and disappointed with, not sure I could take this as well. Although of course we could always do both!

Not the Chestet game please. Brooksider is correct there will be to much emotion on that day. Hinckley at home to pay respect to all would be much better. Forget the atmosphere etc,it's not about that.
God bless them all.

There have been many lost in the last two / three seasons.
Must also add (if anyone remembers him) ex chief steward and deputy safety officer Garry McCarthy passed away last week following a battle with illness. I know he had many friends during his time at the club.

There isn't much that I can add to the tributes that have been paid to Tony, but it makes me realise how many familiar faces we have lost in recent years. Several have been mentioned here and there are others, including my own good friend Bill Cook. I think we can all pay our own silent tributes to absent friends at the Chester game, but agree it would be better to commemorate Tony when we play Hinckley. Also I think we owe it to the likes of Tony to do what we can to keep the show on the road once we've said farewell to the Lane.

Very sad news indeed. I first met Tony at a Fisher Athletic in London game about 5 years ago & living in London we would regualarly meet up at most away matches when we were in the southern division. A true gent & he was was great with my small daughter whose only reason to attend these matches would be to see Tony. I know she will be really upset when I tell her the news later today. Worcester City have lost a true fan. RIP Tony

"Chester will be a sad day as it is. I'll actually be very angry that day....." Me too. Which is why I haven't bought a ticket. The Big Match will be bad enough, but the last game at SGL will be too emotional. I don't think I can face it. I actually dreamt about the lane last night - how bits were being ripped up and thrown away. A real nightmare.

Ealing you can have mine if you like.... due to circumstances I won't be able to make it. Hinkley next week will be my last visit to the Lane. To be honest I quite like that idea, a quiet match, with nothing on the result and being able to trundle round the ground to visit all my favourite spots..... topped off by the opportunity to give those now sorely missed a good send off with a minutes applause. Somehow very apt.

I'd intended Oxford to be the last one, it was a sad occasion for me on Monday, spent quite some time just looking at the stands, went into the shed and stood in the exact same spot as I had vs Plymouth all those years ago, and walked away with a heavy heart. Might have to do Hinckley now and maybe even the Big Match, can't face Chester though.

Did the same before Gainsborough, Tim. Looking for things that I'd never noticed before.
Found one. A stuffed owl tied to the metal crossbeam in 'A' Block. Anyone know how long it has been there? Presume it is intended to keep the birds from nesting?

Presume it is intended to keep the birds from nesting? Been there now maybe two / three seasons and was indeed there to discourage the pigeons nesting...it worked for a little while until the pigeons worked out it was a trick. Memory serves me correctly there should be three up there along the stand. I don't think it will hit home for me until the Chester game but then I'm here every game and also other times during the week so don't think it will really hit me until the day my keys are no longer needed. One things for sure if they work as quickly as the companies on the industrial estate then the Lane will be gone in a matter of weeks !
