Many of you will of course know just how much Kieran enjoyed travelling to away games. In doing so, he often made an effort to get to know oppo fans (often over a beer in their bar), and in doing that he proved a very fine ambassador for the Club. The response by fans from other Clubs just goes to show the high regard in which he was held by the non-league community, and so I am posting a link to this thread that has responses by fans of other Clubs on the nonleagueforum to the news of Kieran's untimely passing ... www.nonleagueforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?id=22432Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of Kieran's family connections. But could I ask that if anyone on here does (Clive?, Malcolm?), could they please make Kieran's family aware of these expressions of sorrow and sympathy, as several of the posters from other Clubs have asked. Also, if there are any arrangements for a memorial service, and that Kieran's family might choose that to be something other than a purely private affair, could any advance knowledge of the arrangements be given? Thanks. Andy

I've only been following Worcester City for a short time, yet Kieran always spoke to me whenever he saw me. Seemed to be a true gentleman and a genuine football fan. Football and WCFC will be a poorer place with his passing. R.I.P.

The perfect word to describe him Andy - an ambassador for the club. As such there is no way his death should go by without a fitting tribute at his spiritual home of St Georges Lane.

Well, just to help regular City fans out, as you wont presumably know who the nonleagueforum posters are, that link is to messages so far from fans of Blyth, Halifax, Solihull, Nuneaton, Redditch, Hinckley, Leigh Genesis, Hucknall, Hyde, Hednesford, Alfreton, Kettering, Tamworth, Romulus, Telford ...
Fitting tribute is the key, Jem, I agree. Am currently speaking to Rob about what might be done for the Solihull Moors programme, which would be a start.

I just felt I wanted to add a few words to say how much I will miss this true gent and as many of you have said, ambassador for WCFC. If I had not met Kieran I doubt I would know anywhere near the number of fans, Board, Supporters Trust and Supporters club members I do now. Perhaps it was fitting in a way that if one has to hear such dreadful news it was in a place Kieran loved every bit as much as the club, the Plough in Worcester. I have not known Kieran as long as most of you but I was always admired his tenaciousness at finding the cheapest way to get to games and once there his cheery smile taking the time for a few minutes chat before moving on to talk to both WCFC and opposition fans. Indeed I was amazed at just how many people knew at all the clubs we visit and he was always looking to make more. The fact that he seemed so chipper at Eastwood and against Nuneaton makes his passing such a shock. I will certainly be raising a glass or two to him with other WCFC fans at Altrincham and perhaps it would be nice if a lot of fans could make the trip to Guisley, the nearest club to his Leeds home a city he loved almost as much as Worcester but be in no doubt his heart was always in Worcester and especially the club. His unrelenting enthusiasm and support for the football club behind the scenes I am sure will be acknowledged but I too think a minutes clapping in appreciation of his life, friendship, work and support at the next home game would be a nice tribute for all the lives he touched. R.I.P. Kieran

Very shocked and saddened to hear this. I met Kieran the first time we played Worcester a good few years ago. We made instant good friends and have remained so ever since. An absolute gem of a bloke. He would always insist on getting the drinks in when either of us walked in the pub and I still owe him a round. My sincere condolences to Kieran's family and friends, everyone at Worcester City and all of the many many football friends he had up and down the country. RIP Kieran. Your old mate Wozza from Alfreton.

Andy Andy, I am in contact with friends who are liaising with Kieran's sister with regard to funeral arrangements etc apparently there are a lot of administrative loose ends to tie up in Leeds before a date can be set. I am sure everyone who knew the big man through WCFC will be more than welcome at his funeral service and I will post details on here when I know them. I have found the tributes on here (and the national board) very moving. Non league football in general and WCFC in particular was his life and it is good to see how much he will be missed by so many. It is sad to see that Keiran has passed away. A person who although living in Leeds did everything he could to support the City. He made great efforts to get to home and away games and spent many hours on buses and coaches to get to the games.
A sad loss to the Club.

This is sad news. I only knew him through this messageboard and related PM's. But even with such slim acquaintance, when he once found out I couldn't make it to a City home match, he sent me constant txt updates.
The many messages from City fans on here, and on forums from supporters of many other teams, show what a great example he was of how a truly dedicated football fan should conduct themselves.

He has made the inside pages (page 5) of the Worcester News today as well, which is quite something for a City fan! (albeit with his picture alongside Andy Preece).
The tributes on the Non-League forum from far and wide show just how highly he was regarded in non-league circles.

Hi City fans, like all of you I was shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Kieran Mooney. So I thought you might like to hear of my personal reminiscences of a great man and a true friend.
Mid- seventies - and we are both under-age drinkers at the Plough Inn Deansway under the watchful eye of Mike Stevens (RIP) and both members of the Blue Dragons. He was called Andy Mooney then and had a worrying obsession with the lyrics of the Edgar Broughton Band and an alarming capacity for a seventeen year old to hold down a gallon of Mitchell and Butlers Brew 11 (when it was draught - not keg). We could only get to one away match per annum, and that was the Easter Monday game at Edgar Street agin Hereford United following the Good Friday match at SGL and to this this day I truly believe that this was where he started this wanderlust for going to away games.

I've seen a lot of managers come and go at SGL, some of whom I'd gladly forget. But the one I have the most respect for is undoubtably Carl Heeley. Not to long ago, players and management would only ever go into the far end of the social club, the other side of the infamous wall! They were advised to do so by management, both football management and club management. I know that Carl was one of those who wanted the barriers broken down, and luckily the new board also understood the need. Carl is also a manager prepared to say if things havent worked out the way he expected. He makes the decisions, he stands by his decisions, but takes the rap when it doesnt work, as well as giving players the credit when it does - thats good management in any walk of life. Theres no arrogance, no blame given to anyone else - my word, what a difference it is for a manager to repsect the close link between supporters and players and management, and not refer to supporters as a cancer!! Carl ecapsulates everything good about non-league football, and long may that continue. We are lucky to have a management and a board who respect the views of supporters, because they are supporters. Now if only we could get SMD off our backs!

I was speaking to Mike Symons's Mum and Dad at the game last week; apparently Mike says Carl is the best manager he has had to date, in terms of man management, football tactics, organisation and just about everything.

I think naming the dressing room end after Kieran is a great idea, but if there's a problem like sponsorship (I understand it should be the Underhill Terrace?) then the Social Club could become the Kieran Mooney Bar.

Underwoods Terrace, and that was an arrangement with the former Underwoods who provided materials. Underwoods no longer exists!

I wouldn't expect the board to name any part of St George's Lane after Kieran, as it will be torn down in less than 2 years and therefore it would not be any kind of lasting gesture.

I sadly have to agree with Niels, re naming part of the ground, so could we perhaps do a Kieran Mooney award to say people for services to the club like the Roger Harris (Captain Crazy) or Danny McDonnell, Kevin Gardiner, Kevin Preece, or Paul Humphries. I am sure many people can think of players, back room staff and indeed supporters past and present who are unsung heros it would be nice to see recognised so maybe that would be a more fitting or lasting tribute to Kieran.

This award actually already exists and was won by Kieran himself - The Clubman of the Year Award
It is however named the Bob Hodgkiss award

niels, that is of course true, but could be carried over to a new ground. Unfortunately though if its Nunnery Way, there will only be a choice of one stand and one terrace!

Perhaps then at the next Trust beer festival re name it the Kieran Mooney traveller beer festival and get ales from near the clubs we play during the season and if it's possible a local brewer to make or at least rename a beer the 'Kieran Mooney' and perhaps the Plough would take some of that one too as it was his local favourite.

Thats sounds like a beer drinking honour, and unlike my brother, I don't drink. Its an honour but not really a WCFC non-league football related honour.

"...but could be carried over to a new ground." I wouldn't want my name sullied by attaching to any aspect of NW. I think there's a case to name everything there (which won't be much) after Dave Boddy so no one ever forgets who screwed the whole thing up. Except he's so dense he would probably see it as an honour.

Well maybe it is not the greatest of suggestions but given the fact the ground will not be with us for long and the award idea seems to be covered, I just thought that as Kieran has been and would have been again well travelled thanks to WCFC, sampling some of the local brews I and others have drunk with him around the country I thought it perhaps another avenue we might consider come the end of the season which is when the Trust will hopefully repeat last years beer festival.
