Some of you may have noticed that a recent thread has disappeared. It was about a particular player thought to have been coming to City.
Richard Dryden has been busy in trying to recruit new players but it would be better if his efforts weren't potentially hampered by news of who his targets are becoming public knowledge. All our rivals are also seeking to recruit players and might become alerted to certain players' availability from "news" posted on here.
As we all want the best for the club I trust that everyone will cooperate with this.
I also understand that some might feel frustrated at "news" appearing elsewhere before it is on the official website. The official website will report new signings when they happen but for the time being all claims made about players joining us have been speculation albeit possibly with some foundation. When pen has been put to paper the news will appear.

I didnt know that any were public knowledge. I would rather hear about them when they are signed anyway.
I am sure Mazey is expecting RD's call after scoring again in the BM. I have already been signed up as chief cheerleader. I have my skimpy outfit and pom poms at the ready.

You are quite right Kieran, all this pesky speculation has to stop until a player signs on the dotted line!

I think sometimes we're a bit niaive in thinking that a non-league clubs unofficial messageboard can influence other clubs managers to go looking for particular players. It rather undermines the intelligence of those other managers, who already know about players looking for moves and who are after them. Or are we suggesting that RD spends his days scouting for players via the messageboards of other clubs?

I have every confidence in RD finding his team, if he has to read Shoot and Match and scour the non league message boards so be it. I would have thought his first port of call would be the NLP, considering how factually correct it is - not!
I trust he is picking them for the cuteness as well otherwise I will be very disappointed, especially as I have lost Jon Munday and Craig

If it does influence other managers then lets throw in a few curve balls.
I have seen the following people chatting with Dave Boddy and Richard Dryden in the Coach and Horses:-
Robinho Daniel Alves Nicolas Anelka Frank Ribery Gareth Barry Tel Ben Haim
Now lets see how many of these turn out for Havant and Waterlooville next season because of my idle speculation.
Seriously though I think Jem could be right. I can't remember a situation when a signing Sneeked away because of messageboard gossip.

Lets add our own famous striker to that list, Tom Mazey, and the bullet of a keeper Steve Goode.

Most players looking to move are far more pro-active than you'd imagine, or at least their agents are, and if one manager is talking to them about a move, they're not slow to get the word around themselves to other managers. By the time somebody has heard about a rumour through a friend of a friend who knows someone who knows Richard Drydens mothers postman, and got round to posting on here, the non-league world already knows about it. I'd love to think that this message board was bleeding edge!!

Having said that, there's no need to fan the flames, however, a quick look at the Evening News shows that they'd also need to be silenced for this to be effective, and their audience on and off line is far bigger than this messageboards.

Good as I think Troy and Matt are great players, I have not seen enough or Rory to form an opinion on him yet.

My PM to the original poster on the thread in question included "As the deal has not been settled yet there is concern that if our intention to sign him becomes widely known then it might hamper our chances if other clubs get to know of his availability. I doubt whether that would be the case but in this instance I think it better to err on the side of caution..." Supporters of other clubs read this board and often report back on their own message boards what they have read elsewhere. It would be a poor manager who gained his information from such sources but there could also be instances where RD's contacts and friendships result in him knowing things that others don't so a "safety first" policy is probably better for City's interests. I also recall that you and TJ had a similar policy on previous message boards.

I had no such policy, not into any form of censure, and was always totally independent of the club. I never felt that an unoffical message board had any real influence over anything.

I like the sound of Bampton - "combative midfield player". Something we've needed for a while. My spirits have lifted from total depression to mildly doom-laden.

Bampton is certainly a popular player at Tamworth. Many of their fans are gutted to see him go. As you say, just the type of player we have needed for sopme time. Just another 5 or 6 signings of this quality to go!

Prefer to see him being labelled a silky smooth passer and reader of the game, as opposed to combative - but lets see.
