The Wales Semi-Professional side lost 4-2 to their Italian Counterparts in Varese today in the opening game of the new tournament for young national sides drawn from below football's top level. The Wales side was managed by Tony Pennock and Terry Boyle. The Wales side found themselves a goal down early-on as they settled to find a rhythm and after that held their more experienced opponents. The Italian squad was very much an academy side for the future and it was clear that many of the players would go far in the game.Wales were caught cold at the start of the second hald and shipped three goals in less than 20 minutes to make it 4-0. After two substitutions, Bangor City's Sion Edwards scored with his first touch before Worcester City's Jamie Price scored with a great free kick.Despirte a never say die attitude from Wales, the Italians were always in control and played some fine football. The final score of 4-2 was still a little harsh on Wales, who were playing together as a squad for the first time.Wales now meet England in the competition in the New Year.
