What may have been missed with the news of two new signings is that Patrece Liburd has been released by the club.

I don't like the sound of that either. How can he judge whether or not a player is suitable if he hasn't had the opportunity to see him play?

I am not privvy to player contracts, but is it possible that Patrece was one of our higher earners? If so Richard and Carl are probably trying to free up some funds to bring in some new faces.
Lets support this new management team and give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

One of the best players we have & he has been released? I would have started up front first then worked my way backward.I was praying for Patrece to hurry up & get fit as i think he was very strong at the back? (Sweep New Broom ) comes to mind. I wish him the all very best for his future.

I can only think it is none football related (i.e to free up wages for the loan players), Patrece has missed the last 5 1/2 games through injury and RD said he has watched the last 3 games so he wont have seen him play for us. Unfortunately any sort of a clear out was always going to cost us the odd player we wanted to keep. There will be a selection of players who are easier to get rid of contractually so its then a case of doing the maths. But if one good player out equals 2 good players in then its good business. Shame though

If his injury is long term then it makes good sense to let him go and spend the money more wisely.
He would not have been my first out of the door but if he has replaced him then ok I am fine with it. There is going to be a big shake up in that team and boy do they need it.

I can name a few of the squad that i would get rid of before Patrece.
Adam Burley Adam Webster Rapinder Gill Gary Walker Shaun Findley
Fortunately these two have gone already:
Danny Hodnett Peter Doran
Out of the players Ive just mentioned Adam Webster is probably the highest paid, but the question is what is he getting paid for?

Very sorry to read that news on the club website; I thought he was a fine young prospect, but then wasn't he travelling from Leeds or thereabouts (and that's really only for supporters!) and as said above it's probably to free up wages for someone else.

I believe he was based in Nottingham which i think is where AP signed him from.

Think he is based in Leeds and doesn't drive. Believe he got the train so far and then got a lift the rest of the way.
Looked a decent player to me and I would have got rid of a few more ahead of him. All I can think is that they are trying to make the squad more local.

Yes that may well be the case, if indeed we are in Blue Square South next year. So who else will leave, Cleggy to Barrow probably. Apart from that everyone else is Midlands based.

As we dont have a pot to..well you know the rest. It adds up that the none contract players offer the best chance for movement if something was needed in a hurry, sad but true. If for arguments sake all the players that the manager wants to move on are on contracts up until or beyond the end of the season what can the club do, short term? As I say I have no inside info on this its just my reasoning. I do know that it is never as black and white as it may appear on the surface. But IMHO Danny Hodnett never let us down, we looked more solid with him in the back 4 than we have lately.

Good call by the new boss to release Liburd - it was one of the madnesses of the Preece era to expect a young player to travel by train from Leeds, then a lift from Sheffield/Derby. I hope Patrece finds a club nearer to home.

I thought he was lined up to sign for Guiseley before we stepped in.

Never really shared the euphoria about Patrese. Yes he was quite good but I saw him let the ball bounce over himself too many times, and put the rest of his defence under pressure, to be really good.

Let's see who they bring in first ... shall we?

It's all relative Niels. In a poor defence he looked excellent. In an excellent defence he'd look..., well we never saw that did we. Sad to see him go as we do seem to lack any power in the centre of defence without him. If, as suggested, he has been travelling from Leeds I can understand why he's been released.
Do the club pick up travelling expences?
