We need a midfield player-manager, if you ask me. But no-one did.

Well that is simple then, Paul Gascoigne is the man for the job.

No it's even simpler than that, Barry Williams!
With Miss Piggy as his assistant.

Whether anyone agrees with me or notas to what we need, what are your views on who might be a serious candidate for a midfield player-manager position?

I don't think a player-manager is the answer. I'd rather see someone 100% dedicated to the management, with maybe his assistant as player-coach. He could be the midfield general.

Its rather in the lap of the gods as to who applies. It's certainly far from a poisoned chalice with a new home just around the corner and the Board's record of medium termism on appointments.
The rule is to find a manager for 3-4 years who turns out to be the man you want to stay for 10 or more. There is no real shortcut to building a club up and the most successful clubs have stability at the core. Whether we can attract someone talented enough to do that I dont know but that should be the aim.
As for midfield generals I think that P-M is too demanding at this level on the basis that we wont have a full time appointee. A p-t player coach is not out of the question but I am strongly in favour of a new broom. No more past players please.
As for names TJ and I are in agreeement. Morrel Maison could be good (and Ron thrown in to boot) he is an obvious talent awaiting his stage. Time will tell if he lives up to his promise but the man is certainly keen to improve and learn. He seems like a personable man as well which is important in dealing with PR. He ceratinly handled himself well after his shock sacking by Ladak at Kettering.
Sadly Mark Cooper seems to be taken but if he had been free he would have been my No 1 choice.
Phil Robinson - the Stafford manager (who could have been appointed in stead of Preecey) - would also be a sound bet. He has done a hell of a job on limited resources.
I think we need someone who has managed at at least CN or CS level (and reached th eplay offs) but preferably in the Conference itself.
The good news - it seems as if we have seen the back of the reviled 5-3-2 at home. You can call it 3-4-3 as much as you like but if you play 5 defenders its still 5-3-2! All we need now is a winger or two (in due course) and we might even see some football being played at the Lane!

Nuneaton have just started playing 3-5-2 with wing-backs. Their fans seem happy with it.
The justification for a Player-Manager is quite simple in my book. I dont think there will be any change in the financial situation at the Club for at least the next two years. On the basis that the equity of SGL will only be released when the ground is sold. Therefore, given our need to strengthen midfield, I would go for a midfield Player-Manager.

Paul Parker maybe?
He did some management somewhere down south a while ago didn't he?
What is David Platt up to these days? (just posing the question here, not proposing him necessarily).

At least looking on the bright side, if it was Gascoigne or Merson, the Social Club takings would go up !

Anyone read that "interview" with Andy Legg in the News and Times? Says he hasn't applied but would like to be approached, and further down says that all his contacts are in the league, which is why he found it hard at Hucknall. Not as hard as we always find it!

I am worried about the Worcester News giving publicity to the fact that an ex-international has applied for the job. I hope this is no indicator of the club's thinking.
As far as I am concerned that has no bearing on the applicant's qualifications; I would be looking for someone with a proven managerial track-record and the fact they might have played for England (or any other country) at some time is irrelevant.
And while I'm at it can I also put in a plea that the successful candidate does not necessarily have to be a nice person! We need a winner, and that doesn't necessarily = nice.

The last time we had a 'big name' manager was George Armstrong (RIP). It must be incredibly frustrating to have played at the highest level, been at famous and affluent clubs and then heve to try and motivate part timers on a shoe string budget. No, I'm not impressed by the prospect of a former international star at the Lane. I want someone with non league pedigree and the hunger (and personal need) to succeed at this level through hard graft.

I am worried about the Worcester News giving publicity to the fact that an ex-international has applied for the job. I hope this is no indicator of the club's thinking. No, it's an indication of two things: 1) that an ex-international has applied for the job 2) that the News and Times are desperately skirting round the club trying to get ahead on this one, and are ringing up all out-of-work football managers to see if they are interested. It's shite journalism and shows a lack of nous. John Hollins? Based in Sussex? This is hardly the sort of job paying the sort of wages that someone is going to up sticks and come to Worcester for. And as for that Andy Legg non-story "I haven't applied for the job" - WTF?
