A hard fought 2-1 win in a competitive, fast flowing, entertaining game. It was just about deserved due to our 1st half performance, but with only a single goal lead, Shifnal were always in it. 2nd half, we didn't play with the same composure on the ball, and kept giving it away, leading to the ball just coming back at us, with Shifnal missing a couple of great chances. Some last ditch defending and a fantastic goal line clearance by Callum Debar just about got us the 3 points, as we clung on.
We played with flair and mobility in the 1st half, but lost our way a bit in the 2nd. My man of the match was Callum Debar who is improving rapidly. Strong in the tackle and in the air, very mobile, always looking to bring the ball forward, and for that goal line clearance. Sam Hall and Sam Whitton also had very good games at the back. A crowd of over 400 was pretty good for a midweek January night.

City 2-1. In my humble opinion few would have any complaints had the visitors come away with a draw. The City front 3 were not quite in the scintillating form of recent weeks. Execution not quite there although the effort could not be faulted. The visitors were well organised and strong in all departments especially down the spine of their team. Up front they were able to hold up the ball and lay it off such that the City were often on the back foot. The 2 goal burst in the first half was a distant memory as City hung on in the last few minutes. The visitors being denied an equaliser by a combination of the woodwork, the keeper, some near misses and a couple of tremendous last ditch clearances. I think 'alwaysnextyear' got a better view of the clearances than myself judging by his account above. What is the saying when you grind out the win when not quite at your best? Polite answers only... Just a word on the pitch. It looked in a lot better state this evening. It had been cut and rolled, and the water in the 'pond' looked as though it had been pumped out no doubt aiding drainage. And of course the weather has been reasonably good for the time of year. Not too many stoppages in play as both teams concentrated on trying to play the game in what was a very closely fought contest.

The first 20 minutes I thought we were awful, and looked totally lost in the midfield. A really great turn around, and then some fantastic defending to keep them out. It was tense at the end though. Yet to be convinced by the new signing Tilbury in the middle. Would like to see Maphosa come back in, and Roberts move back in to the midfield, where I think he is more effective and has more control of the game.
Overall though, a crucial 3 points. Roll on Saturday for another massive game!
