Misty old damp night but a bit of atmosphere under the lights for the crowd of 308. A well deserved win in a very good game to watch, with Evesham also playing fast, quick football. Whilst the pitch was heavy, the surface played well, was pretty slick, and the ball wasn't getting stuck under the players feet as has happened before, and it leant itself to a fast moving and end to end game. The referee also played his part well, letting players tackle, only blowing his whistle when required, and just letting both teams get on with it - a rarity this season.
Whilst Bailey Fuller rightfully grabbed the headlines with his hat trick of good finishes, the overall team performance again pleased me the most. Manager Tim Harris has certainly created an atmosphere and spirit amongst the players that was rarely seen under Ashley Vincent. They play as a team with no prima donnas.
They are far fitter, have a very high work rate, just get on with it, don't moan at each other unnecessarily, try and win the ball back at the earliest opportunity, and play with an obvious camaraderie amongst them. No one epitomised this more than captain on the night James Douglas who never stopped, shows an excellent attitude, and led by example with his intensity. The defence played well and re-organised effectively when Jamie Smith went off. The midfield trio of Douglas, Shaw , and Taylor Randle played with purpose all night, and we attacked with mobility and flair on the ball. Credit to the manager and his staff for signing on the " right " characters, who have bought into his way of playing.
