Excellent 2-0 win; home to Walsall Wood on 12th September (whom we play away in the league a few days later).

Well, that was a really enjoyable game to watch, and a hugely positive performance. That first 30 minutes we absolutely ran them ragged and should have scored a couple of goals. Second half was really solid and the midfield looked the best it's been for a good few years. Set us up nicely for the season and I'm feeling even more positive! Only gripe - It seems that Brain and Reynolds don't really work well together on the pitch at the same time. Both are always looking for the shot, where the pass would be a better move.

I noticed that neither Connor Mooney or Luke English featured in the squad: was that selection or were they just on holiday I wonder. I thought Luke was one of our best players last season.

We have a pretty big squad, and there was always going to have to be a few who weren't included in the match day squad. Kurt was suspended, Luke and Moons missed out. With the 4-3-3 we played last night there were plenty of options available.

I was very pleasantly surprised not just by the result but the shape and look of the team. We seem to have acquired two real powerhouses in midfield in Turton and Winwood they never stopped running and working and chasing. Aaron Brown at full back also had an excellent game. It’s only one win but very impressive and things look good for the season ahead.
