So 10 minutes in and we're 1-0 down and Highgate's reputation of "over exuberant" challenges is in full effect.

HT 0-2
Thoroughly miserable first half. Scrappy and full of mistakes. A couple of cracking saves by Dan.

Should have won in the end, stirring last 25 minutes. What a bunch of wankers Highgate are though, would hate to have to watch them every week.

Yes, another game of 2 halfs. Great to see they don't just give up in the second half. Highgate only having 2 in the sin bin was lucky for them. Should have been more. Ref didn't seem to think handballs were an offence.

Well they never disappoint do they. Just the most horrible team every time. Every trick in the book. To be fair the ref coped with them better than most - it's impossible to keep tabs on it all. No 7 was a total and utter a**e. Although the first half was poor, again the changes worked as we were crying out for Jordan's pace and some width. The improvement in the team is there to see - 2 months ago we would have got sucked into all their bulls**t and lost the game. Shame we couldn't wipe their faces in it at the end.

Highgate did as they always do, so no surprise there. After Wednesday night's dominant 4-3-3 formation, I was very surprised we changed it, and we were poor first half mainly due to our 4-1-3-2 formation. Mewies wasn't needed in front of the back 4, Lockett was lost on the right hand side of the midfield 3, and we resorted to hitting long balls onto the heads of the 6 foot 3 " Sam Oji and Aaron Brown who not surprisingly won almost every header against the 5ft 10 ' pair of Brain and Adaggio.
Manager Ashley Vincent had a go at a City fan who after 20 minutes shouted " Change the formation " long before he finally did after 60 minutes, when he took off Mewies and put Harrison on to give us 3 up front and some much needed width. After that it was all one way traffic as we poured forward, with bodies up front, created chance after chance, and should have won it. Poor tactics for the hour cost us 2 points. Perhaps the fan was right after all.

We have been 4 3 3 ever since we lost Joe Hawkins. Whoever the supporter was that shouted about changing formation obviously isnβt as observant as they thought

Maybe you should go back to formation lesson school because the formation wasnt changed, just the personnel. 4-3-3 throughout!
Harrison on for Mewies. Rowe then dropped deeper into midfield with Lockett dropping from the front three into Rowes position. Harrison then went into where Lockett was playing.
This meant Rowe and Lockett started picking the ball up a bit deeper and started making us tick a little more.

Perhaps the fan was right after all. I know Ash wears his heart on his sleeve but I do wish he wouldn't get so involved in matters off the pitch. He often argues with oppo management and as for one fan's comment about the formation, he really shouldn't be bothered. As for the game it was a really exciting second half which I very much enjoyed. Good value for money yet again.

The Verner - Everyone's going back to formation lesson school then and taking local footballing guru Andy Mitchell with them, as he also stated in his WN report " In terms of shape, back to the 4-4-2 with a wonky midfield, Mewies and Rowe deeper than Withington and Lockett. " !
" Back to the 4-4-2 " ? What ? Apparently we only ever play 4-3-3 ! Andy can't be very observant either !
The club's squad on the website has 4 "attackers " on it - Adaggio, Brown, Brain, and Harrison. Two started yesterday, with the other two on the bench ! I rest my case, your honour.
With Rowe, Withington and Lockett in midfield ( as against Romulus ), we've got the legs and fitness to match anyone, meaning we can play 3 " attackers " up front, where we create more, and look so much more dangerous.
Whilst I agree with cloud, that Ash does get involved too much, one thing to his immense credit is that he has got the players playing for him and the shirt, and it was a really exciting second half.

A poor first half with Highgate going two nil up with two gifted goals from defensive errors, Highgate won all the physical battles in the first half, with City pumping long balls to two small forwards. The formation was 4-1-3-2 and only changed to three up front when Jordan Harrison replaced Kurtis Mewies and this changed the game for City and should of really took the points with chances going begging in the last fifteen minutes, but credit to the players to get back level. It was good to see Jamie Smith back playing again and ready to slot back in when required by the manager. On the subject of Ashley Vincent who is sensitive to any criticism and let himself down with a "for F**ks sake" shout out in frustration on wanting City to take a quick throw in, i had around 12 young footballers from Welland Fc siting behind me who were mascots for the day, not a good example. I personally think Ash and Marlon are doing a good job after a poor start to the season and starting to get a good run of results and have put a good squad together on a limited budget and still in the Vase. Any news on Joe Hawkins who got a hamstring injury against Malvern Town and not played since 28th October, i presume injuries to Jack Jeys and Nat Kelly are long term . We go into our next game away at Boldmere on Monday night with a 19.30 kick off with a number of players nursing injuries.

Well done, we only have 4 strikers on the website, great observation !
Wonder what Dion Dublin was down as for Coventry seeing as though he could play Centre Back or Centre Forward.
Sam Hall can play in defense or midfield, would you like him added twice to the website ?
I rest my case, sir.
As for the formation, clearly explained above by two people, 4-3-3
Jezeph
English, Jones, Hall and Okojie
Mewies (sitting)
Rowe and Withington
Lockett, Adaggio and Brain
Then changed - Mewies off. Rowe into the sitting position, Lockett in alongside Whithington and then three up top Harrison, Adaggio and Brain...Harrison replacing Lockett who as explained...moved back into a more natural role where Rowe was playing
Perhaps the personnel were going into the wrong position in the first half giving the 4-1-3-2 that you viewed, but this is not what was setup and asked of prior to the game.

With all due respect Kev, you cannot have a 4-3-3 diamond, which would suggest that you do really agree with alwaysnextyear. A 4-1-3-2 could be described as a sort of diamond although a proper one would be 4-3-2-1.

Given the time of year, 4 3 2 1 is surely a Christmas tree formation. Especially if you add in the keeper as the tree trunk. Harrison is the star on top, coming on and lighting up games. π

I've not liked playing against Highgate ever since we've been at this level: nasty, gobby side. So, for once, they talked themselves into the sin bin.
I talked two guys who were coming regularly till the defeat against Long Eaton into coming again, and at half-time they must have thought I was joking, but our second-half performance was a treat and we could easily have won that.
I do wish, though, that we didn't concede goals in the first two minutes: several times that's happened recently.
I think there needs to be some indication to the crowd that a player has been sin-binned: I was unaware of what was happening and it was only when I read the post-match report that I realised they'd been down to nine men at one point.

I thought the ref was quite clear at pointing to the dug out whilst brandishing the yellow cards.

I agree with Tim, it's not clear for me either. It was quite a surprise when the one player walked over to the line, stood for a few seconds then walked off. What happens now, does the ref show a yellow and point to the bench and that yellow is a normal yellow that counts towards a red? Maybe a different colour card is needed so it's clearer.

Indoor soccer has the Blue card, which is the lowest level of caution, so maybe a blue card could be used to represent sin-binning. I did see the blue card shown in an Under 15 game once that Dan was playing in, no-one knew quite why, or what, and just got on with the game!! Mind you, it was issues by one of the (self proclaimed) worst ref ever, Ernesto Triana, father of former City player Julian Triana, so there was little surprise in the confusion! Good old Ernie once forgot his cards altogether, and was issuing yellows with his AA membership card!!

Excuse my ignorance please, but if someone gets a sinbin yellow and then later a foul yellow or a second sinbin yellow, does that constitute a red? Can you get two sinbins for one player?
