Wally and his wife ran the Mug House for decades. Probably one of the most miserable landlords I ever knew - and I’ve known hundreds. Great pub though.

The Mug House looks like a very pleasant watering hole from their website.
I’m sure that the name ‘Mug House’ being attached to City fans will create a few laughs for rival supporters too.

Will I be right in thinking that if City are to play their home games at Claines Lane next season, the local pubs will be "THE MUG INN" and "THE RAVEN" ? I used to drink in both those pubs in the late 70s and early 80s (does anyone remember Wally Trow (maybe spelled wrongly) the 1970s landlord of THE MUG INN? - Good days! Raven & Perdiswell both shut

Had my first ever beer in the Perdiswell then used to frequent the Raven. Spent many hours at SGL, am I cursed 😢. I lived half way between the Mug and The New Inn, the latter always had a better atmosphere. Happy days.

I was in the Raven about two years ago. It had changed from a pub to an eatery / restaurant. I'm surprised its shut, as it was a mid week afternoon when we went in (after having a few pints in the Mug Inn) but still very busy. Whats taken its place?

Is Claines Royal British Legion - at the end of Wingfield Road - still open? If so, thats not too far away either from the "new ground".

As far as I'm aware, the legion is 'members only' but I'm sure they would be only too pleased to have additional income on match days/evenings. Not sure how busy it gets, or indeed, if it opens on Saturday lunchtimes?
Might be a bit of a brisk walk to the ground from there though?
Then again, the New Inn is only a short distance from the legion (probably better beer choices [and food]?)

Just seen a couple of pictures of progress at Claines Lane: good to see that there IS some progress.
In the text it mentions "the 3G pitch": is that for matches or simply a training pitch? I don't remember any commitment as to the playing surface being 3G, although I'd be delighted if that is now the case.

The pitch remains grass and is much improved on recent years, groundsman is desperate to get water on it at the moment though

Re. The Verner's point; "Spectator Accomodation - Covered accommodation which should preferably be on 2 sides. The minimum covered accommodation must be 200 of which 100 is Seated. - So I question, other than the seated stand they have put in place, what other covered accommodation housing 100 people is there?"
What would a small covered stand behind one of the goals, holding a couple of hundred - that would take us over the 200 needed for the grade - cost to build?

A planning application has been submitted to construct a similar 100 seater behind one of the goals. Go to this page and put Claines Lane into the address search field: plan.worcester.gov.uk/

It's a start, at least but I wouldn't fancy sitting there when it's raining with a northerly gusting wind - lol.
On a more serious note.... if social distancing has to be applied (albeit for a short period of time), you ain't gonna get 100 seated and coupled with the only other 'covered' accommodation no doubt being fully occupied too, I can't see many spectators willing to stand in the open during inclement weather?
Hopefully, i'm mistaken.

A new application for a second 100 seat stand has been put forward after the previous was withdrawn... this time the second stand will be alongside the existing one, along the side of the pitch, rather than on an end.

Will there be a social club at the new Claines Lane ground? And if so what will the capacity be. And more importantly what will the beer be?

Yes, new social club, offices and changing rooms being built at the moment. Would Imagine they are 10-12 weeks away from being ready. Season starts in 3 weeks.

If thats the case, i.e, 10 -12 weeks away from being ready, will the first few "home" games be played "away" or at another venue?
