City drawn at home to Coventry United; tie due to be played on Saturday January 11th., but Bromsgrove Sporting are due to host league leaders Tamworth that day, so presumably it'll be played on the Sunday (12th)?
Let's hope it's not a repeat of our league defeat to them (0-1) earlier in the season.
Draw was live on Talksport2 and we were the very first ball out of the hat.

Afraid we won't get Malvern in the next round if we overcome Cov United, they've lost 10-0 tonight to Atherstone in their replay.

Yesterday I thought I saw (No - I'm sure I saw) an article in the Worcester News, saying that Coventry had asked for (and we had agreed to) no replay: in other words if it ends all square after extra-time then it goes to a penalty shoot-out.
Now I can't see that article, so is it right after all?

Great incentive for Wednesday's replay.
A home draw vs Consett from the Northern League Div 1 on Feb 29th.
Plenty to play for

If we get through the replay we will be at home to Consett - games scheduled for 29th February (have not checked Sporting's fixtures to see if game will be moved)

I hope the Atherstone fans are segregated in to the open end on Wednesday. Wishful thinking.

Perhaps I am being a "dismal Johnny" but isn't Wednesday's game already in doubt? We've had an awful lot of rain in the last 48 hours. If it was off would that mean we have to hold the replay next Saturday? (When we're due to be at home anyway.)

We could get to the final, lift the vase and you'd still have some complaining that we didn't create enough chances etc! Well done on sorting the shed end Kev!

We can't underestimate how big that loss is. To continue in the Vase and capture the attention of worcester people before a move back to the city would have been so valuable for the future. Can't believe it. Gutted doesn't come close.

It was a great disappointment, and for my money even more disappointing was the fact that they were the better side.
However we did create - and waste - some great chances; had Brain passed to Lockett and not tried to do it all himself we might easily have won.
Que sera, sera!

A very great disappointment indeed, can’t remember feeling so bad after a defeat. I do agree that over the two games Atherstone played the better football, generally passing the ball around far better than we did. When did we become a ‘kick and rush’ team hoisting endless ambitious long balls forward onto the heads of the opposition defenders? I thought it significant that once Josh Willis came on suddenly we did begin to pass the ball around use the width and looked far more dangerous. Having said that can’t fault the lads for effort and well done Craig Jones for playing on with a nasty looking head injury. We did miss some good chances, hit the woodwork twice, but don’t forget once again two magnificent saves from Dan Jezeph kept us in it in the second half. I hate penalty shootout outs!

I found it very disappointing to see Ashley Vincent involved in shouting and berating some supporters in the stand who had howled with frustration when Sean Brian fired an easy chance over the bar. When we did score he turned and started on the fans again before throwing a water bottle on the floor in anger. This was all after he spent a good 10 minutes berating the fourth official apparently over a minor decision and then sat sulking on the bench.. This in contrast to his assistants who focussed throughout on the game and upon instructing the players.
I have noticed a pattern of behaviour from Ash of continually moaning and berating the referee in past games often over the most minor of decisions. I know others do it, but I like to think we are better than that, and I think it’s usually counterproductive. It puts the referees back up and he’s less likely to listen over something serious like a penalty appeal.
Ash has been around in the game long enough to know Supporters have a right to air their views, they paid to be in the ground, unlike him. There will always be one or two expressing an unpopular opinion so why be so thin skinned and allow yourself to lose focus on what’s really important? He was shouting that the ‘offenders’ were not encouraging the team. Well they were there, supporting them by their presence, so were 600 plus others. I though overall there was massive support and encouragement for the team.
I think Ash has done a reasonable job steadying the ship after some rocky times earlier in the season and he has brought some good players in. But I do wonder when he regularly allows himself to be so distracted and temperamental what that says about his leadership ability and what the players make of it? Compare that to the calm leadership and encouragement of Carl Heeley for example who radiated calm focussed leadership on the touch line.

Can't disagree with stamoo on this i'm afraid. Ash did lose his calm too often last night. Far too involved and over emotional.
As for the match, what a very costly defeat both in terms of money and keeping the season alive. I thought Atherstone came for the penalties, with their unbelievable time wasting from the start with fake head injury after fake head injury stopping the tempo of the play, and a first for me in seeing their keeper go down with cramp after 20 minutes ! Saying that, they quickly realised that they could play the ref and take the **** out of him, and we weren't savvy enough or good enough to address it. They passed the ball better than us, albeit with not much penetration, although we had the chances with Brain missing 2 sitters.
As with 40 of my 50 years watching the City ...................if only..............

I don't think I've ever been so frustrated watching a City game. I could not understand what we were trying to do all match. We neither pressed them properly or had a proper strategy to catch them on the counter. I lost count of the number of times 3 or 4 passes led to a Atherstone striker with an opportunity to score. Our midfield went missing for large parts especially their goal with Jones' poor header and no midfielder in the vicinity to help. On the occasions we did press properly they made mistakes because unsurprisingly they weren't Man City. This half way house barely changed throughout the match and drove me crazy. Classic case of doing the same thing time and again and expecting a different outcome. A massive wasted opportunity.
On a separate note, yet again an Atherstone idiot on the pitch. The celebrations and goading of the Atherstone players at the end was pathetic and shameful. Why couldn't they just celebrate together and then go down to their own fans. There is something about the players at this level of football - they see a big crowd and turn into overexcited children. Hope Consett absolutely stuff them.

Incredibly frustrating four hours of football over the two games, we certainly didn't leave anything out there in terms of effort, but we never really hit the quality heights that this group of players is capable of. Make no mistake though, Atherstone were a very useful side at this level, well set up and organised, and easily as good if not better than everyone we've played this season. All about contrasting woodwork fortunes at the end of the day. Did we get it right tactically? Atherstone certainly worked out how to combat the wing-back idea on Saturday, causing a half time rethink, and Belcher was pretty much given freedom of the park to orchestrate things last night, the game was so open and end to end. Pity Kurt was injured last night as I think he could have done an effective job there, but then again he had that chance on Saturday and it didn't work. To be honest I don't know any other way we could have played though with the personnel out or carrying big knocks. Massively missed Dimi on Saturday and Whitto in both games, but I thought both Lukes were outstanding last night.

yes it was disappointing that we did not go through to the next round, but the lads gave their all last night& considering how many were carrying injury they gave all they could, now its our time to turnup every game & support them, they need us more now than before as they are really hurting inside, those who stopped to applaud them would have seen this, this is our team through thick & thin, as for Ash i think he has every right to get upset with those who shout negative comments week in week out, all he want is all to support the team, yes im disappointed some times but i was one told it can demoralise a player or team if shout negatives, lets be positive & help the lads though.
