We're now 17 points behind first place Ilkeston so, in a desperate bid to keep the rest of the season bearable; I heard that some second place teams from our level could go up, anyone know what the criteria is?

No answer to your question, but I would say that Mr Snape (despite comments to the contrary) has given up on promotion!
If it was still a possibility, why would he let 2 of our better players depart just prior to playing Ilkeston where we needed a win to keep any promotion thoughts alive.

My mistake.....I hadn't realised that George Forsyth was still with us (for the moment). I must have got carried away with the news that Cameron Walker had gone instead.

Promotion, at the moment, would be counterproductive. We'd need a whole host of better players to survive at the next level up, all of which would cost money that we don't have, simple as that. While the young nucleus of talent we have would prosper at the higher level, we'd definitely need some quality additions. Unless the lure of playing for the same team as some legends isn't quite enough for some players, we'd be looking at additional costs. Not to mention the increased travelling. Promotion can wait until we can afford to do ourselves justice at a higher level again.

I wouldn't worry about it ! We're nowhere near good enough to get promoted. It's all about survival at this level, and trying to get back to Worcester, whilst making the money last. We're 9th in the table for a reason.

Another season of mid table MFL football will see crowds dwindle further. I think the record books will show we've already broken three record low City attendances this season; FA Cup home, first team home game on a Saturday & (technically) first team home game (played at Studley).
Does anyone at the club know the criteria for a second place team to go up, or are we just waiting until the end of the season, what will be will be, hey ho......

Fairly sure this season reverts to the rules in place prior to last when it changed as a one-off to create the extra divisions at the two levels above.
I'm almost certain it is one up only. 14 leagues at this level with 7 above that have 2 relegation spots each.
The way it worked before was one team from each league bar extraordinary circumstances, even if there are leagues that do not promote. Reason being leagues at this level do not want to be decimated.
In the past the highest-placed eligible club finishing in the top three went up. No promotion if none of the top three were eligible.
It used to be that any club wishing to go up had to apply by December 31 and then be judged to have FA's E grade (F required to be at this level). Not sure if you have to apply now.
Saw in the NLP that the FA wants an 8th league at the level above City's in 2019-20, presumably meaning extra promotion spots next season.
Unusual time at step 5, only one spot for many years and now potentially more in 2 out of 3 seasons, potentially the best chance to get out of a bottleneck last season and next.

I'm with teej, I don't think that significantly more fans will want to come and watch us struggling to keep up with clubs like Barton Rovers, Yaxley and Welwyn Garden City. The priority needs to be on trying to break even, developing the local young talent that appears to be emerging and hopefully playing closer to home. I would be happier to watch a winning team in the MFL than a losing team in the league above. Plus we get another shot at the Vase.

Sorry that this is a belated response but I don't come on here very often now. I find people talking about promotion, and trying to "hold our own "as it were, unbelievable. Why would anyone go to watch the side being turned over week after week?Crowds would dwindle even further. At least, by playing at the current level, there is a reasonable chance of games being competitive. The penny just doesn't seem to drop.Worcester City are, currently, a Midland league side playing at an awful standard. Same as most other teams at the same level.I hope that can be turned around in time, now we have the right people in place to do it, but it won't be yet awhile.
