Very even game although the number of offsides has given the fans something to really moan about. Also the number of missed chances is worrying. Good Att 406.

Not the prettiest game to watch, but it was hard fought, with a very motivated, well drilled Khalsa well up for the game. Jordan Harrison missed a completely open goal, and a one on one in the first half, so we should have been in front at half time. We gave away the penalty, and what Khalsa had they were holding onto. We played into Khalsa's hands by hitting too many long balls up to their two big and strong centre halves, getting caught offside time and again, and not playing through the midfield enough, sorely missing Matt Birley. We lacked someone to repeatedly run with the ball with the exception of James Baldwin, who again had the beating of his full back, but we just didn't get the ball to him enough, particularly in the second half. I felt that Liam Lockett who can run with the ball, should have come on sooner to try and unlock their defence.
Against this type of opposition who can match our hard work and endeavour, we need to show more craft and guile in the final third. All in all a very even game, just lacking in that bit of creative going forward spark that Matt Birley usually provides. Khalsa are tough opponents, but if only we'd put our chances away. 406 was a good attendance, on a cold, miserable afternoon.

A very good summary. Khalsa worked hard for their victory and deserved it. They kept the likes of Weir, Harrison, Forsyth quiet and whilst Birley may have made a difference we're not a one man team. Incidentally Khalsa's win means they've beaten us at home two seasons in a row.

Despite the result it was a very pleasing afternoon for me.Work in the morning prevented my going to Hartlepool so it was off to Bromsgrove for my first Saturday match since my self imposed exile ended with the removal of certain parties! What pleased me was the feel good factor that seems to be creeping back and the good crowd, considering the weather and, almost,no away support.Best part though was asking the Chairman a question and getting an immediate, honest, answer. Club is on the up.Unfortunately I have been lost to Sutton, for the most part, but it isn't outsiders like me that matter. The City people are happier and that is the main thing and bodes well. Up the City!!

According to the WN Jordan Harrison was on the end of some criticism from a number of City fans. I didn't hear anything on the terraces, did if come from the main stand? Surely it's unwarranted? Don't these people realise we're playing in the Midland Football League now?

Are they actually reporting that?
I did hear some jibes thrown his way, but it was really mild stuff. Certainly nothing newsworthy.

They were shouting for him to be subbed in the first half because of the number of squandered chances. They were also giving Tyler a hard time for being offside so many times.

Sorry, I am a bit confused, is this the same Jordan Harrison who scored a wonderful goal last week, the one where he did a Cruyff turn and chipped in from an impossible angle??? And everybody was cheering and celebrating??? the Jordan Harrison who is our top scorer???

People do, often, moan at football matches.
Most important thing from Saturday is that Jamie is ok, as that really looked a bad one. The way he was rolled onto the stretcher, & with an Ambulance waiting - took my mind off the game after that.

It's hardly a story meriting the WN blowing it out of all proportion....................yet again. It seems to be their agenda at the moment.
There were two or three " old blokes " moaning in the stand, no swearing, just moaning away. I've heard and no doubt said, a lot worse watching the City over the years ! It wasn't Harrison's best game but no one means to miss chances. All part of his football learning. He'll get over it.
If Messi played for the City, some would still moan because he's crap at heading it !

Have the WN ever been to a city game before ? The whole of the Brookside around me spent every moment of every game I attended moaning.. ;-) And Always is correct, if Messi played for us, scored 8 in the first half but made a mistake in the second he'd be moaned at for being too short...

I was stood in the main stand in the first half chatting to Jed and I never heard anything apart from "How the f... did he miss that"

The stand out players for me were Khalsa players Leon Miles and Tesfa Robinson. You can see why Khalsa have conceded so few goals this season; how on earth did they manage to ship four the week before? By playing a lone striker we played straight into their hands; Turton should have been on, if not from the start, certainly much sooner than he did arrive.
Those two crucial misses just before half-time came back to bite us. What we have to do now is pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and go on another long run. The worrying bit is that Ilkeston now have a six-point lead on us, which even at this stage of the season is going to take some pulling back.

We weren’t actually playing a lone striker, it was 4 3 3 although the other two up front were both wide men

Actually it was a lone striker, as we played 4-2-3-1.
Forsyth and Caines were in front of the back 4 in a mainly defensive role, Weir, Withington, and Baldwin played in front of them, with Harrison on his own up front.
Unless the midfield ran with the ball, which only Baldwin did, Harrison got isolated and we ended up looking for the long ball. Give me 4-4-2 any day.

I think it was a good performance we just missed our key chances. Can’t for the life of me see why Kyonn Evans isn’t playing, do you think he would have scored the two chances? Probably not but he’d bring great energy and work rate. Just what we need atm.

First half we caused them problems and should have been two up at the break. Second half was the exact opposite. Their really high line, especially in the second half, killed us as we hadn't got the creativity to find a way round, going long all the time and trying to get a ball behind Robinson and Miles. Game was crying out for Birlo to run at them, but he wasn't fit sadly, and for all Withington's energy he doesn't have the end product to make things happen. Instead we just kept lumping it onto their centre halves who gave Jordan nothing to feed off, and Turts didn't get enough of a look in. Games like that you need the honest work rate and graft of Kyonn and Batesy, not the maverick Balders cameo. Assume the pen was for handball against Tom Fishlicense, as the ball squirted out at an impossible angle when they went to ground and could only have been knocked away from the striker by an arm.

I can understand how you may be mistaken that it was 4 2 3 1 as both Baldwin and Tyler played quite wide but it was actually a 4 3 3 formation

We can agree to differ, although I think Tyler would be delighted to be considered part of a front 3 !
Whatever formation it was, on the day it didn't work !

We can agree to differ, although I think Tyler would be delighted to be considered part of a front 3 ! Whatever formation it was, on the day it didn't work ! Tyler was delighted when Ash told him he was in a front three the first time, the Long Eaton match. He repaid us with two goals! We have been 4 3 3 every game since. I only offered the information on the formation to help people not start an argument. I know it was 4 3 3 as I was sat with Ash when he wrote the team down, I was in the changing room when the players were told and I still haven’t wiped the formation off the tactics board that is sat in my office.
