I see that for season 2018/19, step 5 (what we are in now) will have 20 teams (2 less than now). Does anyone (maybe Kev?) know what other changes are to be in place?
How many teams get promoted, is it back to only 1? If >1, are there play offs? How many teams get relegated?

The league didnt know much about this seasons goings on so I am pretty sure they wont have a great deal of idea for next year. However, I do know that the league and FA were in talks to have the top two places as promotion spots from next season or maybe the season after and from that point, every year. I will probably have more of an update at the next MFL meeting

Surely if it will become the norm for 2 to go up from this level, a playoff for second place would be better?

Yes, I'd hoped for 2 with a play off, but Snapper said; "We didn’t get up last season, which was our target, but it’s a very competitive league and one which will be tougher again next season because only one team will go up,” worcesterobserver.co.uk/sport/snape-stays-with-city-and-targets-new-player-coach/

Surely if it will become the norm for 2 to go up from this level, a playoff for second place would be better? Why? Surely if you finish the season having earned a second place finish, you've done enough to warrant promotion?

What is the point of having a season if the positions don't mean anything at the end of it.

Play offs keep the season interesting/alive for clubs in the top half. That's why nearly all leagues have them.

In which case why bother with a league system at all? Why not introduce a play off system for all teams in the league at the end of the season? Then it would keep the season interesting/alive for ALL teams, not just those in the top half!

I believe up until this season only one team was promoted from the MFL each season? And that the main driver for 2 going up this season just ended was to facilitate the reorganisation at the steps above? So until there is a formal announcement it's unclear whether 1 or 2 clubs will be promoted in 18/19.
Moreover we don't know if the club has any aspirations to get promoted next season. Staying at this level may be the preferred option.

All pretty academic really - as the Board will have run the club into extinction after next season when the money has run out.

It's an interesting one... being City fans, we have differing views on play offs, having never seen our team thrive or fail at them!!
My opinion is that play offs are a good end of season decider for the 'best of the rest' to go up, but can also agree that it's often harsh on second place, just to satisfy a few other teams that haven't done as well over the season.

Dartford being one example.... they miss automatic promotion from National South on goal difference and Boreham Wood get promoted via the playoffs having finished some some 17 points behind Dartford. Exactly, they are ridiculous razzmatazz affairs, which give no thought for the financial planning of cash strapped football clubs. The implications for Dartford could be long lasting, they may have over extended themselves in order to gain automatic promotion, they may now have to reign in the spend for next season, which could mean they miss out altogether on play-offs next season, let alone promotion. Its like making the 4 runners up in the Olympic marathon "play off" by doing a 100 metre sprint to decide the silver and bronze medals.

So, Snapper was right, only one club will be promoted from the MFL next season. If we're operating on a reduced budget for 18/19, let's face it, it probably won't be us. Maybe having a more sustained run in the FA Cup and the Vase will be the main objective.

Only the second placed team in our league gets into a play off (with a team from another step 5 club)!?!? I like play offs, but I don't like that at all. All they had to do was make it so position 2-5 gets involved in the play offs, to keep the season interesting for most for longer, like most other leagues do.

Not even worth thinking about - With Anthony and his chums at the helm, we're far more likely to be seeing step 6 rather than step 4.
With one seasons worth of cash left for the Board to squander, it can only be more down than up I'm afraid.
