I wasn't there, so what's the verdict? Were we outclassed? Are Sporting worthy champions? Can we forget about finishing second now, especially as we're down to fourth?

We weren’t bad. We had our chances and on another day we would have won 2-1. A draw would have been a fair result.

A bit like Saturday, where a draw was probably a fair result, although a case could be made if either side nicked it 2-1. We had our chances, and should have been 2 up in the first 20 minutes, poor finishing again, then Bromsgrove came into it. Second half the same, had chances, couldn't score. They could.
I wasn't overly impressed by Bromsgrove. They certainly didn't out class us at all. They're a well organised more savvy side, where everyone knows their job, and they've learnt where to try and play on which part of the pitch. Generally they try to hit the strikers early from defence to attack, with their midfielders picking up the second ball going forward. They rarely get caught in possession in the wrong part of the pitch, whereas that has been our fault all season. The Rugby goal on Saturday, Bromsgrove's first goal tonight, both stemmed from us trying to pass sideways 40 yards from our own goal. We get caught in possession, defence exposed, goal. We have conceded lots like this, and just haven't learnt game after game, points dropped after points dropped.
Our midfield has plenty of effort but little craft and guile, whilst our forwards finishing just isn't consistently good enough. However a crowd of 1400 plus at level 5 saw an entertaining game.
Fourth is where we should be - not being able to beat Bromsgrove, Coleshill or Highgate tells its own tale.

But we DID beat Coleshill if you remember - 1-0 away. Tonight was a highly entertaining game and could have gone either way: you certainly couldn't fault the team for effort as they really did give it their all.
I wasn't particularly impressed with Bromsgrove either. Fine margins in football and we were - just - second best.
It will be interesting to see how we get on now against Highgate.

Interesting or irrelevant? As stated above, fourth is where we should probably be.

I agree - not a great deal in it
Bromsgrove looked a little pacier up front - and on occasion our defence was a bit flat footed. Cowley is a very good finisher (...hard to like him though), and I thought their number 7 looked very good.
Bar that, I thought city played pretty well.
Birch - who I think played for Stourbridge last night - took a nasty knock towards the end, but was still chasing back like a man possessed at the very end to try and win the ball back. Good to see.

Apologies, I'd forgotten we beat Coleshill away 1-0. However 4th is where we probably should be, as we're not clinical enough, match and pitch savvy enough, nor consistent enough, and we keep repeating the same mistakes.
Amazingly , last night's attendance of 1,423 ( at level 5 ) was larger than 8 out of the 9 National League ( level 1 ) games played last night ! Only Tranmere's 4,328 beat last night's crowd. How do all those full time clubs stay in business ?

Morning All, Sporting fan here , and forgive me for jumping on your forum but I just wanted to say that without your contribution last night, the game and spectacle wouldn’t have been anywhere near what it was. Our group all thought that you played really well and thought it so nice to watch your team always take a touch and then pass, rather than the normal boot up field On a different day , it would have been you taking the points such was the fine line between the teams, but maybe others are right when they say we were more savvy? I know we have said that about other teams all season! And finally, despite what was being chanted last night, the vast majority of us wish you guys all the very best in your quest to return to home soil - clubs like yours are too big to be pissed about by ignorant individuals, causing mayhem and ultimately destroying the long standing reputation of your proud club. Good luck for the rest of the season and with your future

Highgate's attendance last night was 36!

That seems to debunk the myth that the crowd is the 12th man! The end result of last night was that Highgate got 3 points, and City got none. Maybe I should add crowd bonus points to my weird and wonderful football rule changes , which also includes having goalies attached to "It's a Knockout" style rubber bungee ropes!

Nice words from greenandredtown.
I thought the fan organization & allocation worked well last night. I doubt City will be needing any segregation at the Vic again, but on the off chance we do; last night with the home fans having half the stand, the undercover terrace & access to the bar / normal refreshment kiosks - is definitely the way forward.
It's not quite season over just yet; Highgate's next 5 games are away, & Coleshill have only taken 1 point from the last 9. My glass is half full.

Where we end up after 42 games is where we deserve to be, not just after results against the teams above us. All City can do now is win their games and hope others slip up. Lets wait and see where we end the season.

Fact is though we've only won 3 of our last 7 games, so winning all of the last 6 seems highly unlikely.

Maybe if the Chairman hadn't come out with his silly comments about going fully amateur, players like Hughesy wouldn't have, quite reasonably, jumped ship?

Some of us said exactly the same thing last night. We miss Hughes finishing and nous up front, and winning 3 out of the last 7 tells its own tale. Another self inflicted blunder from Hampson. Having come out with his " fully amateur " comments to then retract them, and say that there will be a budget next season, just makes me wonder what his motive was, and why the dreadful timing ?

Bromsgrove realised after the first period of the match that there was a degree of uncertainty between the young keeper and the back four, especially with his kicking and started to press higher up the pitch which made our defence even more jittery - resulting in the first goal. Cowley's celebration, running the width of the pitch close to the fans cupping his ear, was an absolute disgrace and he should have been booked. Apart from that I thought the ref had a good game - rare at this level.
We dominated large chunks of the 2nd half but as has been the case since Hughes left, failed to take our chances. Their front line is fast and agile and more clinical which is why their are deservedly top of the league. I hope they go on to win the league although it will be sad to miss the derby match.
If anything good comes out of the rest of the season it will be ruining Highgate's chances of promotion - The most unpleasant team I've ever witnessed
For all the good words about the segregation, it would have been deeply miserable if it had poured with rain and no doubt caused much mirth amongst the Bromsgrove "massive"

I agree that we've missed Hughes, frustratingly his departure is of the club's own making. Reynolds is a decent player, I hope he stays next season but we will need someone fresh to partner him. Danksy isn't the answer. However I guess goalscorers come at a price and will take up a big chunk of the budget.

Sporting won 7-1 at Rocester tonight. Clearly the title beckons and tiredness not an issue for them.

Timed perfectly to make sure the more expensive players had gone by registration deadline, and with them any danger of promotion and the financial scrutiny that that would bring. Shampson is an utter cnut.

I don’t even know what you’re trying to say. That Hereford supporters are classier than City fans are?

Yes I wonder whether it would be any different at Hereford if Tommy Agombar was seen sneaking around at Edgar Street?

Dave was watching the game from the main stand, with the City fans. It was all quite normal.
