A useful win today at Rugby, who apparently (wasn't there) looked a useful side. Unfortunately it looks like we picked up a couple of injuries - Forsyth and Reynolds; could have done without those with a match on Tuesday night.

Useful is an understatement, I'd call it vital. Well done to all concerned though, I really didn't expect us to get a win today.
As for injuries, with three games in eight days there is bound to be some player rotation. Forsyth and Reynolds might not necessarily have been in the starting line-up next Tuesday anyway.

A very good win, and like Julian, I'd call it vital too. Rugby were certainly a physical side at times, and I'm sure a fair few of our players will be aching today. That said, Danks got minutes yesterday despite recovering from a foot injury, Birley only took part for 30 minutes or so - so hopefully is well rested, and of course Hughes is still to come back into the mix... We've got to expect squad rotation for most of the games left due to fixture congestion.
Praise for Rugby as a club - lovely ground, lovely people running it - made to feel really welcome. One of their volunteers explained to me at half time how the man who owns the club paid for most of the development of the ground, the have a full size 3g pitch and a 7 a side pitch behind the one end, new floodlights which had their official 'switch on' yesterday, a good modern bar. They also apparently have 9 players on contracts, working on the logic of keeping the core of a side together for a season or more, rather than having to constantly rebuild the squad as most do at this level.

Almost accurate. Rugby Town FC are majority owned by a company called Symon Builders Ltd. so Brian Melvin (and the Melvin family, many of whom are involved with Symon Builders Ltd) hasn't put any money in at all. Symon Builders Ltd. have the same Board as the football club, and their ultimate controlling company are R.M.B (Rugby) Ltd. who are also run by the Melvin family. So long as Symon Builders Ltd. remain in good shape, the football club will remain in good shape, at least they won't have to repay the loan capital. It's a decent business model, as it doesn't rely on any income fluctuation at the football club, and has nothing to do with football, but on the more reliable income streams of an established building company. I imagine this is also a good way for Symon Builders Ltd. to reduce their tax burden
