Many clubs at this level don't have a press box, some don't have a press officer. I've met part of the media team from just 4 clubs so far this season. Bromsgrove, Coventry United, Daventry and Shawbury. The Cov United guy Liam gives live commentary and films on Youtube as well as doing their prematch PA (brilliant job he does), so he was pretty busy. Dai at Shawbury is also their football secretary along with everything else - he was pretty busy, Daventry also did their PA and I believe was their football secretary, and Bromsgrove seem to spread the load across several people... but didn't actually have anyone in the press box on Boxing Day. I've not had a single opposition press/media person sit in the press box this season. Home or away.
Last season was much much easier. Croc is right, it's tight knit, and you can share info about each teams players quite easily... not so much so when there's nobody else to swap notes with. On Tuesday the issue was that I didn't want to watch the game from the bar... did us well actually, as City's first goal was given to Birch by Wulfrunians on the PA system, Andy thought it was Reynolds who tapped it in, but I was about 2 yards away and confirmed it was an own goal!
To Cloud, thank you. Max is the man in the PA box, and I think you're right - he does well at it. His choice in music is varied, non offensive and you can hear him clearly, despite a rather awful system at the VG. It's much nicer than some PA announcers who pierce your ears each time they speak. I'll be sure to pass on your praise to him!
I would love it if it were as easy as you portray Croc. But it's not. I remember running across the Victoria Ground to get a teamsheet. Mostly because I have to do it every other week. That as well as organise a shirt signing, photo op, facilitate an interview someone was doing for their degree, get a programme signed, get expenses paid for, and then have to shoot off to go to my actual job for 7pm... that was my last home game. If I just had to do Twitter updates, I'm sure they would be of a much higher quality... but as it stands, I currently do have other things to do than just sit in the press box comparing notes for an hour plus pre match. But yes. Piss poor planning and all that, right?
Tell you what - to allow me to focus on other things during the match:
If anyone else would like to do the match updates home and away free of charge, please let me know. You need to bring your own laptop, make sure it's got enough power in it to last, as almost no ground other than the VG has a power supply for you to use. Use your own mobile data, I recommend at least 3gb a month - 4gb to be safe. Make your own way to and from games. Make sure you spend time in the week researching players from step 9 of the pyramid that have no presence as a footballer online, and never make a mistake, or you'll never hear the end of it.
Any takers, come see me at a game.

Such a shame that Hampson and Co have managed to piss off so many people who used to do this kind of work. You're right of course, this kind of work isn't expected at this level, and who made the decision to be at this level? Certainly not the club owners! The consequences of mismanagement and bad management by the very people your dad keeps telling me I need to support. Yeah right. Krister did offer to do all of this work for the club free of charge, but he was ignored at Board level, he also offered to manage and publish the programmes, but they turned him away. This is the kind of work that good volunteers like Niels and Jane used to do. Wayne Henley would have loads of data on players at those levels of the pyramid, as would Chris Green. Neither would be likely to involve themselves anymore. We used to have so many good people like Rich Widd, videoing games, managing the media channels, it was volunteers like Norm and Jane, Dave, Mike, who made sure everyone got tickets for the big FA Cup games, all sat in Rich's work office (which was tiny) labelling envelopes and sorting ticket types and numbers over a weekend. Wayne and Cogg, photographing every item to manage inventory for a new ecommerce store. Wayne also doing the website (I think Tim, Wayne. Rich and myself all lost money as we paid for hosting etc. ourselves. The issue isn't the amount of work that needs doing, that's just a question of putting the effort in. The issue is finding people who haven't been screwed over, pissed off, and hounded out from doing these things before.

The second jack - I can’t get to every away game and believe me your twitter updates are very welcome and very much appreciated. I am checking my phone every few minutes and every Twitter post is gratefully received. Thank you for the time and effort you put in - it means fans like me can follow the teams progress from afar when necessary. Please don’t think you are not appreciated because of some silly moans and groans.

No-ones suggested that he boil an ocean, just that he names the opposition players. Hardly difficult really, and only a suggestion. I'm sure it doesnt take long to write down the names of 16 players with a number against them.

I’ve been following the twitter updates for every game i’ve missed this season. You’ll get no complaints from me.
Opposition players being referred to by number instead of name is really a non-issue when most of us can’t name the majority of opposition players anyway. At this level, you see many of them once and then never again.

Fair point that most of the names mean very little at this level. If I'm told the opposition no. 5 has been booked I know he's probably a central defender.

Thanks to those who have shown gratitude for the updates. That does mean a lot!
I'll certainly take it on board about mentioning opposition player names... don't expect it each game, but I'll certainly try to get them in the tweets more. Don't expect any in depth notes on them, however.

I can confirm that they all have two feet each. That's as close as you're getting!

The twitter updates are appreciated, I can't get to every game and it is always useful to find out what's happening the second it happens, so thanks Jack for your continued efforts. Yes the odd one goes a bit wrong, but so do the players and fans alike! It'd be rubbish without them, that's for sure. Opposition player names, numbers and facial hair are all equally irrelevant, to be honest all we need is a sad face then the revised scoreline, anything more is just pouring salt on a newly opened wound. There's nothing quite like opening twitter and seeing GOOOOOOAAAALLLLL though

Ive always taken an interest in the opposition, not just WCFC. Like watching a game one evening over at Telford and thinking "that Steve Norris is quite a player!" which meant a bit more than "that no. 9 is quite a player" and it was therefore exciting to read that he came to play for City later. So, from what you are saying thesecondjack, do the Worcester News get preferential treatment at all away games?

It also gets you wondering about players you hear about, like is Uxbridge FC's Ashley Quashie related to Nigel Quashie? I was reading the Worcester News and noticed that Littleton FC's top scorer is a guy called Dan Carter, and I'm thinking that he may well be the Dan Carter who used to play for UCW against my lad. Now he was a quality player, who had the ability to play at a higher level.

As I said before - I often cannot be bothered going through my phone to find a picture of a team sheet, to say "opposition 5 Joe Bloggs is coming off" rather than just "opposition 5 is coming off". Like I said, I'll take it on board and try to use names more often.
TeeJ... I get moaned at by some for "giving it the beans" when we score. Can never please everyone!!

Split the screen and watch the excellent Twitter feed and the Worcester News feed at the same time! Both give a similar account of the action, but sometimes Second Jack gives a different opinion, such as getting the scorer of the first goal on Tuesday correct! Both of you keep up the good work!

I'd rather eat my own shite than waste a second on the Worcester News.
