City at home in the second round of the vase, up against Highgate United, who are also in our league, currently sitting 12th. Among their ranks is Marco Addagio, who has 14 goals in 18 games.

Bromsgrove away to Sporting Khalsa, so this will presumably take the place of the trip to Westfields originally scheduled for that day.

For those of us with long memories, City played Highgate back in 1973 and got beat in the FA Cup at home after drawing away. We went back the next season for their manager, the great and charismatic Nobby Clark, who went on to produce the finest City side in my lifetime. Those most definitely were the days my friend, we'd thought they'd never end...............they have and how !

They also beat us in the Birmingham Senior Cup in the early 90s when Martyn Bennett was manager..
If my memory serves correct it was a weirdly arranged fixture.. we played Highgate away on the saturday drawing 0-0, and then on the sunday we played a league game at SGL vs Dorchester stuffing them 5-1.
And in the replay we drew 3-3 and lost on penalties.

That is correct. At the time County F.A. competitions were able to take precedence over league fixtures and as Highgate had no floodlights they were able to insist that the tie be played on a Saturday afternoon. The replay was watched by what I believe was - at the time - a record low crowd for a home first team fixture, just 114. A fair few of that number had left by the time the shootout began and fog had descended so that it was almost impossible to see the penalties from anywhere except behind the goal. We scored just one of our kicks I think. The ref made us complete all five even though it was pointless as Highgate had already won. One positive did come out of this though as we subsequently signed Willie Batchelor from Highgate.

I am so glad Highgate progressed no further: after their nasty antics they are now number one hate team for me.
