Thats sad news, and it reads that Kettering are finding it difficult to find any other suitable sites in the City, despite an extensive search with the local council, that sounds only too familiar!! The reality is that it is becoming increasingly difficult for local authorities to justify the development of a large piece of land (often more than 10 acres) for such a small representation of their community, and that a football ground for the premier local club just doesnt fit into their local plans. Begrudgingly, I do understand this point of view, although I also question it, particularly if a plan can be put together which doesnt just involve football, and doesnt just involve the followers of a football club. There needs to be a change of mindset from both the clubs and the councils about where (and if) a premier football club is a valued asset in a towns community, or not. Another thought - thats another classic 100 year old stadium which will be lost to housing development, is it not possible to protect these icons with preservation orders? Too late for St Georges Lane, but not too late for somewhere like Twerton Park ? www.derelictplaces.co.uk/main/leisure-sites/33509-rockingham-road-football-stadium-kettering-northamptonshire-jan-16-a.html#.WE6c0PmLRHM
