Andy, as you have communication with the Chairman, do you know whether the club would want more Monday night fixtures? From a personla view I would as Saturdays clash far more with other commitments particularly during the late summer and early spring, front and back of the season. And of course very often we get a hot late summer making afternoon games hard work for both teams. THe flip side though is usually smaller gates so Saturdays may be ther preferred option for the club.

Yes by the end of these games Preecey will know if he's in with a shout of the league, lined up for the play-offs, or in need of a team of fighters t okeep relegation away. Top10 position after 10 games is what he asked for once before. Id like to see top 6 and then we should be in for a fine season.

OB, yes, I do have occasional communication with the Chairman, but whether the Club would want more Monday night fixtures is not a matter I have discussed with him. Even if they did, I doubt there would be much one Club could do about it, as it obviously needs others to agree. If you want to raise that particular matter with him, I'd be happy to let you have his mobile number.

It looks like a tough start to the season. But you never know. One of the pluses is that several of that first ten games are against sides that have undergone significant change in personnel over the summer - Kettering, Tamworh, Telford, Moors, Alfreton, Boston. It often takes time for even a good side to gel. Carrying forward a fairly stable squad ourselves, there may be a slight factor in our favour there.

Andy, I only asked the question, I've got no interest in talking with the Chairman about a trivial little matter like that, but its probably something that goes through the clubs mind like it went through yours. Everyone seems to enjoy Monday night games. You are right that it would affect other clubs too, maybe its just a trend away from scehduled evening games. Could Setanta be affecting kick offs in some games this season?

Seddon win miss the opening games, including ours, due to suspension. Shame!

I am so disappointed that there is only one scheduled Monday night game between the start of the season and Christmas; and I'd argue against attendances being down on a Monday night - they are often higher, particularly in the milder weather at the start of the season.

As for "...a romantic weekend away in Barrow" I'm afraid, dorothy, that's a contradiction in terms!

Three possible reasons as far as I can see, Tim

First, the season seems to one week longer than last year.
Second, the fact that Xmas falls mid-week means that the festive games arent weekend games (as they have been for a couple of years going back before last year
Third, many of the mid-week games we have fallen away from home.

As was discussed above, Nuneaton could become a Monday nighter. And then there are always our own Cup replays, of course!

Barrow is marketed as being between the Lakes and the sea. What could be more romantic.
You will both come back glowing, although that could be more to do with the nuclear subs and nearby sellafield.

Actually, despite what I said about Barrow, the surrounding area is very nice (my daughter lives in Stainton, just five miles distant), and the dock museum (free, by the way) well worth a visit, as are the beaches at Sandscale Haws (home to 70% of the UK's natterjack toad population) and Walney.

Having said that I found the atmosphere in the main stand at Barrow AFC quite intimidating; and after that smack in the mouth so, I suspect, did Mark Danks.

Striker Westcarr at Kettering has a three match ban carried over, but the first game he will be available for is against us.
