The English more than any nation I can think of try to abrieviate names, and that's just fine as we wouldn't want things to be too difficult for you, but when the abrieviation has nothing to do with the original name that´s just lazyness in my puny foreign mind. Burley=Burlo. Fine Emeka= Macca ?? Abderrahman=Jimmy ? (yes I know why but just plain lazy) Rapinder Gill= Rapid. Fine Well, Niels, frankly as this is just a matter of your personal likes and dislikes and not a point of principle then I wish I'd stayed clear. My last opinion from my English mind is that a nickname is a demonstration of belonging/inclusiveness, which is particularly apt in a team game like football. Bon chance, mein herr.

A bit lazy calling him Tom surely? Its Thomas. I worked with an Asian gentleman called Syd, his name was actually Syed but obviously that was far too long. Did you refer to Traore as Abdherahman all the time as well Neil? Actually I did. Although it did get me into trouble at the Redditch match. I always call people by their proper names unless they request otherwise or use an abreviation themselves as in the case of Andy Bullock for example.

His uncanny resemblence to Paul McCartney maybe? Why was Paul Davies nickname Okker? Surely the most important thing is that we've signed a real quality player who could make a difference next season. I'm going to call him Stewart.

I once had a horse named Stewart. It wasn't his real name, his real name was Indirect Access or something like that, but when he retired from racing because he was no good, I bought him and called him by his stable name which was Stewy, although I was formal and called him Stewart. He didn't seem to mind.

Yes and Stewart is buying the drinks, although the barman has just asked him "Why the long face?" There's a guy in St Johns called Andrew who everyone always calls Bogue, he's been called it since he was a kid and he has no idea why. I don't think its laziness, just a British tradition of nicknames. Poor old Stewart, just dropped the tray, he's all fingers and thumbs.

I've given up on trying to get people to spell my name properly as it has at least 3 derivations and probably more and its only got 4 letters in it. Its okay in normal speak and in letters where they spell it wrong, but it screws up on emails at my company, they've now set up the system with aliases so an incorrect spelling now gets to me, which took some sorting out in such a large company.

I'm going to call him Emek. There is currently over 4000 Macca's in football, all of them named by Ron Atkinson.

"Because Xvzu was too unpronounceable."
Straightforward reason.

I have 13 other goldfish. Almost a squad. (when I say I have I mean "I care for" as fish cannot be owned notwithstanding William the Conk)

About time we signed Nwadike, he looked a tremendous player against us for Ilson a few seasons back, big string physical presence that totally dominated the game. Let's hope he can do the same for us!
