The details and photos of City's first signing of the season will be available on the official WCFC website later this evening (probably around 8 pm)...
The press conference will now not take place.

It seems that Alfreton Town's supporters will be sad to see him go. alfretontownfcforum05.com/viewtopic.php?t=1791Quite a few of them mention Makka as one they wanted to keep for next season. And from www.alfretontownfc.com/ "Emeka Nwadike swept the board at the Alfreton Town presentation evening held on Saturday night at the Boundary in South Normanton. Having already picked up the Supporters' Player of the Season for the 2006/07 season at the last home game of the campaign, the hugely popular Reds midfield player was presented with the Manager's Player of the Season and the prestigious Players' Player of the Season at the awards night."

I'm sure I remember him when he played against us. He was a real threat. He's the kind of player we've been missing in recent years. Well done AP and co.

This season just gone, I think he picked up Alfreton's awards for Manager's Player of the Year Players' Player of the Year, and Supporters' Player of the Year!
Big, strong and tough tackling. He can also score against us, so he must be good ;-)! - at least if I recall correctly he did in the 'catch' game at the Lane. An excellent signing - just what we needed, in my book.
Welcome on board, Macca.

A big tough tackling, ball winning, ball heading 100%'er. Exactly what is required to fire our midfield engine room.
Sounds a good logical signing.
Well done Preecy and welcome Macca!

Indeed, welcome Makka and - I hope - we have an injury free pre-season.
I see on the Alfreton website that they've signed 6 new players and lost 2.
Commanding central defender next and we'll be sorted.

Given that JT, Mighty Mouse and Des have all gone, Capn Crazy will still want to use those lines, so the introduction will probably go something like this ...
"Just flown in from East Midlands International Airport, he's short but he's good, and Captain with pride, .. (mumble, mumble)

Good little article in todays WN. www.thisiswcfc.co.uk/display.var.1483089.0.city_swoop_to_sign_alfreton_star_nwadike.phpNwadike should be very complementary alongside Clegg and Colley in midfield, giving us more 'height and bite' in the crucial area of the middle of the park. Good also that he is signed before training starts, as it is a key position for others to get used to him, and for his distribution channels to be worked on during the friendlies. I am assuming that we will be signing a new central defender as well, hopefully before the friendlies start.

I read somewhere that he scored 4 for Alfreton last year.
Useful height for us in dead ball situations, given that JT has moved.

Decent playing record. Doesnt seem to spend half the season on the sick list - a vital asset for any signing (mentioning no names!).

And although he's a tough tackler, I believe, I think he only got four yellows at Alfreton last year. Not getting suspended. Also a useful asset.

Good signing. He was very impressive in that dire rainy game up at Alfreton 18 months ago. Lets hope he can reproduce his form down here.

Looks like an excellent signing, welcome Macca and well done AP together with all concerned. Good news that Troy re-signed as well.
I'm glad I bought my season ticket when they were at their best value!
You gotta have faith...

Sounds like a very good signing so long as he is given every opportunity to bed in and play to his full potential. He is the kind of player who needs to be given the freedom of the park and he'll deliver the goods.

I know this is probably just me but we have just signed someone yesterday and already he is being called by a nickname, by some on this board, which is easier for nice English people to say. Just plain lazyness in my opinion. Surely Emeka is not that difficult to get your head round.

Maybe its what he likes to be called , and only his Mum calls him Emeka when he's been naughty?

Or maybe it's just like I've stated above.
As someone who has had to adapt his name to get people in this country have some chance of getting somewhere near it it seems pretty clear to me. And then most of the time I get called Neil.
I once worked with an Asian gentleman who was known as Stan. Being the naive person that I am I didn't for one moment think that his name was anything different. It was not until many years later that I found out that it was short for Paki Stan.
But putting aside the slightly difficult name thing I find it strange that some supporters go straight to the player's old side's website to find out what he has been called by them. Why not wait and come up with something yourself, like in the case of Tom Warmer for instance.

Though I eagerly await any alternative suggestions you may have. Anyway, if you don't agree with it, don't do it. Nicknames are just part of football - Adam Burley being called Burlo and so on. As far as I'm aware the players don't mind, and it is for the person concerned to say if they don't like it - and they may like their nickname, who are you to say. It's the British way, old chap.

The English more than any nation I can think of try to abrieviate names, and that's just fine as we wouldn't want things to be too difficult for you, but when the abrieviation has nothing to do with the original name that´s just lazyness in my puny foreign mind.
Burley=Burlo. Fine Emeka= Macca ?? Abderrahman=Jimmy ? (yes I know why but just plain lazy) Rapinder Gill= Rapid. Fine

A bit lazy calling him Tom surely? Its Thomas. I worked with an Asian gentleman called Syd, his name was actually Syed but obviously that was far too long. Did you refer to Traore as Abdherahman all the time as well Neil?
