Definately in midfield we need at least two more quality players and thats about all. Preece will have to work hard to find them before the season though. Where we finish wil depend on where we are at Xmas If we arent top 5 then we probably wont be all season and if we are relegation zone then it will be a battle for the rest of the season. I hope for a good start and more money for Preece and no infighting between manager players or supporters this season.

Preece has already said we need a central defender to replace JT. I see that signing and absolute minimum one midfielder as most likely, possibly another midfielder as well.
That said, could just about get by with what we have in a 4-3-3 ...
Danny
Hodnett, Smudger, Gill, Shabs
Ward, Clegg, Burley
Webster, Danks, Wilding
Subs: Nic Colley, Gary Walker, AP, Troy and ANO
Wonder if we intend to bring in another coach?

I'd prefer to see Ward at the back. He impressed there - but not in midfield. I'd do that and put Nick in midfield instead.

A 3 man midfield with only one midfielder in there would be a bit silly though, I can't see our three forwards getting much ball from that midfield. Looking at that team it doesnt look very strong with just one centre back in defence and a makeshift midfield too. Maybe we need another 5 players. A new centre back, and 4 new midfielders Good up the front though but it all looks a bit long ball

Its not a lineup that I'm recommending. Was just thinking about how we might use what we have if we dont make any new signings.

I see your point andy and it shows that we are very short of players in certain areas and shorter than I first thought. My line up would be Danny Ward, Smith, NEW, Burley NEW, Colley, Clegg, NEW Wilding, Danks
It's a big step up for Gill and I dont see him being thrown in to a central role at the back with Chris Smith straight off or he could become anothe Jay Stybel or Asa Charlton not able to step up. Ward and Burley are very capable full backs who looked good playing there last season so leave them there. I get a feeling that the team could have a very different look about it at the beginning of the season and depending on results it could have another very different look by December.

Personally, I think we will continue to play the same way we have done, with a back three and Ward and Burley as wing-backs. I think Gill was signed with the 'reputation'/recommendation (King Carl, Paul Carty) of being able to step into that back three role from the off. All opinion, though, Oogly Boogly, and mine is only different rather than 'better' than yours.
This is always going to about a squad, rather than a best eleven.
If it were to come down to a starting eleven (as it undoubtedly always does at the prverbial 3 o'clock), then I would like to see Craig starting as well as Webby and Danks. I'm very much in favour of having your proven players on the pitch. That leaves us with a two-man midfield, weak on paper I know but I envisage them being supported by the wing-backs hopefully playing further forward, Smudger pushing forward the way he does with his 'interceptor' tackles, and strong covering back by the forwards (something Mark Danks was showing very strongly at the end of last season). But that way of playing needs a particular type of midfielder.
Cleggy and Colley give different options, but like yourself, I'm hoping to see the signing of one central defender and two midfielders.
That should not be unexpected given the departures since last year of two central defenders and two midfielders (with Gill coming in as one of the central defenders). However, indications have already been given that we may be one senior player down on what we had last year.
Then there is the coaching position to be resolved following Jock's departure. Will AP take that on, allowing that 'senior player' on the pitch rather than wages spent on a coach?
I'm not expecting the squad to have a very different look about it. If Troy and Shaun do sign up, and AP carries on, then 15 squad members will be the same as last year (plus I dont know about Coatesy).
Let me do a quick check on the 15
1. Danny 2. Ward 3. Smith 4. Burlo 5. Hodnett 6. Shabs 7. Colley 8. Clegg 9. Gary Walker 10. Shaun Findlay 11. Webby 12. Danks 13. Wilding 14. Troy 15. AP
Yep, 15. Gill gives us a current squad of 16.

Recommendation and reputation is one ting but when you are in there with players who've been round the block at this level for a few season well it might be a different matter, only time will tell, and I hope he doesn't get thrown in and have a few mares against wily old forwads. It looks like the opinion is a central defender and two midfielders then, and hopefully the younger players in the squad really stepping up to the plate. It is a big ask of Hodnett Shabir Walker Findlay and Gill though which is a worry. Troy Wood and Andy Preece though shouldnt really be considered as neither of them add anything to the squad, in my opnion, which is no better than anyone elses and probably a lot worse

We will play the same way as last season and Gill will go straight in to the back line.
I think we should open the seaosn with Webby, Wildthing and Dansky all starting. That to me is a statement of positive intent.
In an earlier thead someone made the point that adding a bit of pace at the back should allow us to be more attack minded and WWD on the field gives us the firepower to outscore the opposition.
We need to strengthen everywhere!
We will finish... dunno yet because it will depend on any new signings and injuries. But if we get two in who are as good as some of our better players we could make the play offs. If we improve our disciplinary record significantly that will offset, to some extent, the negative effects of injuries and be an improvement over last season.
