I doubt Preecey would have begged Collins to join Worcester, Statto ;-)

Guess this news confirms what we had been told previously - that the Club is looking for a new central defender. Not surprising with both Des and JT moving on, and Rapid coming in.

Good news about ALL 4 ... IMHO.
Just hope Nick and Shabs get more games next season.

To be honest, losing both Des and JT means something of a rebuild in central defence. Smudger is obviously still there (presuming he isnt moved to midfield) and Rapid is coming in. I would like to see a central midfielder of stature come in, with possibly Rapid playing the Des role if we play a central back three(I dont know his style) and Shabs challenging for a place along with Danny Hodnett.
Midfield-wise, we are very light at the moment, with just Cleggy and Nic signed up. Surely we have to be looking at least one new signing in central midfield, minimum.
Unless Preecey is going to push Wardy and Burlo further forward into the wide midfield berths, with Smudger, Rapid, Shabs, Danny + ano pushing for places in a more othodox back four - in which case, I would still like to see a classy central midfielder.

Agree about the lack of numbers in midfield.
Dont really care if Colley and Khan sign as long as they are not regular starters next season. If they are in our best starting XI come August then we wont be going up in 2007/08.

I would like to see Nic match his undoubted effort with quality of final product - be it assists or finishing.

imo i think with one quality addition, a good strong center back, who is good aerialy and attacking the ball... we will have one of the best defences in the league coupled with danny in goal! pace, power, and ability!
i think we need to strengthen in midfield for deffinate! one or two quality additions needed!
Shabs and hodnett good news in terms of having strength in depth, but i would really like to see a back 3 of smudge, rapid, + a new center half to replace JT! Playing 3 at the back for the coming season will give u much more going forward, as we will be able to commit more forward and play higher up the pitch as we now have genuine pace in defence!

wonderfullcity you make an interesting point about the ability to take more attacking risks with more pace at the back.
I really hope that this proves to be the case at home next season as despite a good home record since the turn of the year I feel we could have been more adventurous at home and it would have given us a few extra points.

I see that Gary walker has signed up on non contract terms.
I haven't really seen him so can't comment but reports say he has promise. Only Troy Wood and Shaun Findlay left to make up their minds.
Still no new signings.

The absence of new signings is beginning to make the natives restless. Still, if I remember rightly there was a long delay last year too, so perhaps it's a deliberate AP policy.
Gary Walker is a lightweight I'm sorry to say; good enough for the bench - not good enough to start.

While it is interesting news that Gary Walker has resigned, I'm sorry but I'm not too excited about it as I dont expect to see Gary play very often. If he proves me wrong, great.
The fact that players who have been offered terms have not accepted them is a bigger story, and hints at some difficulty in securing the signatures of 'first-choice' candidates. I suspect Preecey (who has been on holiday until last Friday) may now be looking further down his 'target list'.
Then you start getting into different scenarios. EG Do we want to pay this central defender on a salary that reflects him being first choice throughout the season or is he going to be good enough as a stop-gap for the first thrid of the season, and then we'll try to get JT back in September. For example.

yes Andy with only 5 or so weeks to the first pre season match "time is tight".
You rightly pointed out some time ago that we dont want the team to be in a state of flux (again) during the key Augsut / September period with its heavy loading of league fixtures.
