Jai Stanley has been released by Telford www.shropshirestar.co.uk/2007/05/seven-out-the-door-at-bucks/Their forum also suggects that he may give up football completely after taking some abuse off the fans there. Ex City target Ian Herring also looks like signing for Conference new boys Salisbury from Chippenham.

Wishing Jai well in what he does next, and if its football, I hope he can find somewhere where he can have an impact, which undoubtedly he would if he gets some luck and stays free from injury.

Lets have him back at the lane on non-contract terms.
Who knows a shift to 4-4-2 might suit Jai's style of play? And if we pay nothing for him, the expectations will not weigh as heavy on his shoulders.
Bring back Stanley!

Except he would be criticised a) for coming back b) for having cost money before c) for the same reasons he was when he was a City player;
and Preecey would be criticised for a) looking backwards rather than forwards in his transfer policy b) signing someone who apparently wasn't up to it before c) the same reasons as when Jai was a City player.
Jai would be a leading star at Southern League Premier level - good luck to him, the game needs footballers with his creative vision and technical ability, there aren't enough of them around.

I'd love to see him back and a team built around his vision and undoubted abilities, but this won't happen due to the reasons Tim has laid out above.

I'd have Jai back tomorrow if I thought we were going to play 4-4-2 AND if he is back to full fitness, which we never really saw the first part of last season after his knee injury. The kind of through ball that Jai (and few others) can play is the kind of delivery that Danks would thrive on, and Craig (with his improving lay-offs) would bring midfielders into attacking positions. A slow recovery from injury and Craig and Traore upfront in combination with a 'light' three man midfield didnt help Jai in his latest spell.
I see rumours are going around that Carl Palmer may be moving to Telford.
The midfield signing that Preecey makes over the summer is really vital to the Club's fortunes next year, and the style of player will, I suspect, be very heavily influenced by the style of football that Preecey intends to play next year. If Webby shows early season sharpness and looks like being a 25 goal a season man again at CN level like he did the first two seasons, I can see us playing 3 up front (why leave one of two 15 goals-a season strikers on the bench?) in a 3-4-3 system. But I dont want to reopen the formation debate, as I for one am entirely happy for the manager and the players to work that one out.

Q. Why is Four-Four-Two magazine called what it is?
A. Because that is the formation everyone is most comfortable with. If this lot could play anything else well enough, they wouldn't be playing for City......

I'm tempted, Tim, ... very tempted.
But no, I'll leave it!
Oh, shall I ....
... no.

If this lot could play anything else well enough, they wouldn't be playing for City...... Both teams in that turgid FA cup final played a 4-5-1 which the commentators were saying is really a 4-3-3, but as we all saw, it ended in a midfield stalemate and a very poor game, 3-4-3? always becomes a 5-2-3 as opposition play diagonal balls behind the full backs, and with a 5-2-3 the forward line get starved of supply unless either the 2 central midfielders are very very good (in which case they wouldn't be a t City) or the "wingbacks" are world class!!! I don't have the same faith in the manager and players figuring out new formations, and I have that in good faith from a City Legend, a former player and a present City player!!!

I believe the Club are very well aware of your advice, JP.

It's a pity if Carl Palmer is going to Telford, 'cos he always seems to score against us (excepting last season) and I quite fancied him playing for us. He's exactly the midfield dynamo we need.

The message from some Telford fans seems to be that Jai didnt have the 'bite' within their 3 man midfield system.

I believe the Club are very well aware of your advice, JP. What the hell has it got to do with the club? Sorry andy I thought this was a fans forum for fans to discuss things amongst themselves.

The message from some Telford fans seems to be that Jai didnt have the 'bite' within their 3 man midfield system. Sounds about right, Jai has always been a 4 man midfield player, with someone else doing the biting in the middle.

Hitting 30 next year and probably seen his best days in non-league football, he hardly pulled up trees at Redditch. A good honest non-league journeyman these days. 10 years ago it would have been nice if someone had spotted his potential, strange it took till he was 26 for anyone to even notice him, and Hednesford had the luck of playing against him in a pre-season friendly and snapping him up!

I just thought that if anyone had any ideas, the Club is open enough to suggestions and would surely give them due consideration (unless similar ideas had already arisen before and hadnt been pursued for whatever reason). If its beneficial to the Club that everyone on here supports, that seems a more appropriate course of action than just saying it 'in the ether'.

If the club EVER considered any football related ideas from this forum it would surely be the kiss of death for the club!!! Our role is only to pontificate and debate footballing matters, not to provide any input to the football management or coaching staff. Now Club related issues, a different story, such as filling the D Stand with free kids places, or selling chocolate bars in areas other than only where alcohol is served, or putting coffee in the coffee at the Brookside snack bar, I only hope that the club do listen to such ideas.

or putting coffee in the coffee at the Brookside snack bar, I only hope that the club do listen to such ideas. its not just me who noticed that then! They must secure the supplies from the same people who provide it to us hoi polloi at New Road! I bring my own sachet and add it to hot water provided!
