Don't worry. We are about to enter the third year of Andy Preece's five year plan to get the club into the football league. The next three seasons are going to be really exciting

Can't help thinking that the south would have been an easier league to get out of.

I must confess to some end-of-season frustration. I could probably have coped with losing out in the promotion challenge to Droylsden (a consistently good side for 3 years at CN level and financed to the tune of 3 million over the past five years) and to a full-time and bank-rolled Kettering.
However, losing out to Farsley, and finishing behind three other recent Unibond Clubs sticks in my throat somewhat. Hinckley making the play-offs the year after a couple of years after a decent FA Cup run and the revenue from a televised game makes sense to me. Unfortunately, our cup revenue will have disappeared into a financial black-hole that eats money.
Preecey is partly right in saying that next year is all about the budget - it will dictate how many and which players he can bring into the squad. But there seems to be another ingredient at play at this level. Dont know what it is but I'd like to see some more of it our way!

Consistency, in a word. Farsley's success has been built on a bedrock of a solid defensive platform, a tried and tested tactical formula, players that work for each other and several players chipping in with goals. Plus a good chunk of gold stuff.

I think another key ingredient is continuity, its been proven over and over that you can't even buy short term success and operate a "revolving doors" policy. Kettering found that out this season, just because a better player can be bought it doesn't mean you get a better team! And then flogging him and bringing in another someone else doesnt get success either. You need a team who have played together for two or three years, with the occasional clever signing coming in. Possibly another related thing is that most of the Farsley players are from in and around the Leeds/Bradford area, they have probably been aware of each other for a number of years and have an affinity for each other, and also an affinity with their local sides including Farsley. And also they run a number of junior sides for boys and girls NOT in some kind of "elite" league that they've formed, but in the local junior league structure, which allows them to keep a watching brief on their own plaers and players from numerous local clubs, all playing football for enjoyment, where not only does the talent shine through, but the team is seen as an important member of the local footballing communitiy - going off at a slight tangent here, but the decision of WCFC to pull out of local leagues at junior level seriously alienated the club from local junior football, and has led to WCFC fielding teams of just 9 players on occasions!! I also think, and I know andy doesn't agree, that you've got to let players play where they feel most comfortable, in a formation that they feel comfortable in, and stick with it regardless of the opposition. As soon as you start tinkering to cope with opposition players you're on the back foot, on the defensive, and you start losing shape and confidence. If you look at our team last season, was there a forward in the league that Smudge and JT couldn't deal with? Was there a winger that Burley and Ward couldn't close out? Was there a defence that Danksy and Wilding couldnt open up? Hopefully next season we go into games with the belief that we are the team that others have to think about, not the other way round. And if the club can finally do something to make Worcester City FC a community team, then I'm sure that will make a difference.

Whether I agree or not isnt the issue. A number of players turning out to play 30+ games (or more perhaps - 60+?) in positions they were not comfortable with would be a major issue as it implies a breakdown in communication and shared ambition. If that were the case, it may be resolved by players not choosing to sign up for new contracts.

exactly - that may be the case, or more likely in a rational world, discussion with the new management team should bring about a solution. After all, its clear that George Clegg isn't a winger, Adam Burley isn't a wingback, Danny Hodnett isn't a wingback, all good players, but better utilised where they feel most comfortable. I think Andy Preece had his concerns last season about breakdowns in communication and shared ambitions when he was talking about certain players complaining about other players pulling their weight. I think he'll deal with it and we'll see a more settled team next season.

Andy is right in saying that the budget will dictate thinsg for this new season however I remember Andy Preece saying in October last year that the budget takes into account Worcester winning two games in the FA Cup. By that then, you would have to reach the First Round Proper of the FA Cup before some money starts rolling in and then hope that not all of it goes into the black hole of debt.

I see today that the FA have insisted on Blue Square retaining Conference in the title of the three leading leagues; so we will be playing in Blue Square Conference North next season.

It's amazing to think there's only a division between them and neighbours Leeds United. A local derby in a year's time?

It's amazing to think there's only a division between them and neighbours Leeds United. A local derby in a year's time? A stunning thought. Leeds United 0 Parsley Celtic The Lion 1 Att 343 in the NW Counties after Leeds suffer a quintuple relegation following the "administration" scandal and Farsley go out of business and reform after losing money hand over fist in the Conference.
