9th ... we are nothing but consistent in this league having finished 7th and 8th in previous seasons and gaining 60 or 62 points.
Got to say we had the best squad this season and with a little more luck (better team selection/formation/home form) could have easily made the play-offs.
In a nutshell ... DISAPPOINTED.

Hmm...
Not the greatest of 'reviews' Ville...
I suppose its the old 'get used to it' as thats exactly what it was this season.
Now, Question....
A replacement for Danny?? When?
Cos he ain't gettin any younger.. and although - in my opinion - he is still tip-top'ish where is the understudy??

James Coates is the understudy.

James Coates is the understudy. <<Yawn>> Never.......? JC is no sub to Danny. And next Season really does require a 'new Danny' especially when we are promoted to the Conference.

Been on the ****hole pills again Wakey? James is a pretty good keeper, I'd be happy with him between the sticks. Why are you so keen to get rid of Danny?

We have never lost a league game (not sure about cup games) with Coates between the sticks. He is as good a 'keeper as Danny.

Where did I say I was'keen to get rid of Danny'?? What's an a**e 'ole pill?? So, Danny receives a pre-season injury - say, August - who steps in? JC? and how confident does that make the 'then' back 4.??

why not JC? That's his job, he's an excellent keeper. No lacking in confidence in front of him because it's him and not Danny there, he's the sort of decisive keeper who breeds confidence.

I question this idea that Coates is such an excellent keeper. If he was, then how come he hasn't made the grade with the other teams he linked up with after release from City?? He's an okay keeper, and a decent understudy if Danny misses a couple of games, if Danny gets injured long-term, then I imagine thats the time Preecey looks for a bewtter keeper. Unfortunately, having a first class keeper twiddling his thumbs on the off chance that Danny gets a long term injury is a luxury that City, as well as most non-league clubs, can't afford.

Back to the question about the seasons review. well, Worcester City could get out of the football game altogether and set up stall selling a good line in Curates Eggs!! for yet again, this season, we were good in parts, but inconsistency let us down again. I have to agree with Steve Carley when he wrote his piece about "City looking a different team since....." when commenting on the constant change in personnel from week to week, it must have had an effect on the team. The ongoing Morrison situations can't really have helped the players, and certainly must have diverted the attetntion of the Directors, all very unhelpful when trying to get 100% from every corner. So another inconsistent season, with probably the best squad of players put together since Ally Robertsons team of 90/91, but as Villager says, too much fiddling with personnel and formation!! Hopes for next season? We keep it simple, go 4-4-2, keep a settled team barring injuries, and as few off-the-field distractions as possible.

My hope for next season is that the Manager plays whatever formation he chooses and that we build on the fitness that has brought us a number of late goals to upgrade 3 or 4 draws to victories.

As I said, I hope we keep it simple, and don't confuse the players like we did this season

I thought we did decently. A top half finish and a decent run in the Trophy and nearly made the FAC 1QR again.
I'd like to see a shift in the attack / defence balance at home. Too many home points dropped cost us the play off place and we need to attack the oposition more early in the game. Get off to a fast start and put them on the back foot. Not quite caution to the wind but not far off.

Interestng, that, BDS. For the first month, we were superb away and couldnt buy a win at home. Around September it switched around. In all those months after the first, we have one of the best home records in the league, and one of the worst away records.
But as you say, still a lot of points dropped at home. What has impressed me has been the strike rate of the opposition. Not many clear-cut chances, but a high % of goals scored. Thats not a criticism of Danny Mac, at all, as the oppo have scored some stunning goals at the Lane.

I question this idea that Coates is such an excellent keeper. Based on the times I've seen him play, I think he is an excellent 'keeper.

That may be true Darrell, but, if he was an excellent keeper, he'd be playing first team football, he's been released from everywhere he's been at, maybe he's just the unlucky one! Excellent keepers are very hard to find, there are enough mediocre ones at all levels of the game.

We could ceratinly have had 3 or 4 more points on merit but perhaps also we could have scored a couple more goals so that a late goal didnt cost us 3 points or a point. Post Xmas our goalscoring seems to have picked up. Our home record post Christmas has been good - if we maintained that for a whole season we would be in with a real shout and the gates would go up. I think it is really important to get off to a good start at home in the early part of the season and build the home support. I feel we lost 50 to 100 fans with our pre Xmas home form (no real empirical evidence for this) and they didnt come back later. If we won all 21 home games and lost all 21 away games we would be there or there abouts but th egate would be 1,000+ minimum each home game!

Two teams not deducted 10 points and without transfer embargoes.

There are three half-decent teams coming down (Alty, Southport and Tamworth), plus Burscough and (probably) Telford or Witton coming up. Burscough, recent FA Trophy winners, Telford incredibly well-supported, Witton - don't know anything about them.
None of that makes it any easier.

Grantham and Sittingbourne have both been full time teams who haven't really caused any problems in the past. It isnt easy for a full time team to drop down a league and maintain their finances in good shape, I doubt the conference gives parachute payments.

Southport have announced today that they will stay full-time next season in their efforts to try to secure an immediate promotion.
