In an article published in the Worcester News in June, Mr David Boddy welcomed the new financial protocol for Conference teams which included a quarterly report on finances at each club. Within that report it says " As a result, the Conference is set to introduce a financial reporting protocol for all 68 teams in the Blue Square Premier, North and South. All clubs will have to provide quarterly reports about their expenditure, including details of payments to the Inland Revenue. If reports show a club is getting dangerously into debt, the Conference will impose a registration embargo to prevent the situation deteriorating. " As Mr Boddy is a current director of The Football Conference Ltd, I wonder whether he'd be as welcoming of an audit by the Conference Comittee now! From the WN
"City chairman Boddy is in favour of the scheme. “It’s got to be a pleasing step,” he said. “With all the clubs that have had problems in recent seasons and this season with Nuneaton, Boston and Halifax, the league will have an idea where they are at and what state clubs are in. It’s positive and the club is fully behind it.” "
I translated this from the original Kipling (see "The Man Who Would Be King") using Babelfish and my knowledge of the Craft and this is what came out. (Translation in italics)
City chairman Boddy is in favour of the scheme (Oh great Sikhander save us!). “It’s got to be a pleasing step,” he said. “With all the clubs that have had problems in recent seasons and this season with Nuneaton, Boston and Halifax, the league will have an idea where they are at and what state clubs are in (high priests will be able to influence matters if things look grim for them personally) and. It’s positive ("We must remove all the treasure in case Michael Caine and Sean Connery hove into view") and the club is fully behind it. (Its like giving a mortal woman to a God she will be consumed by the flames what could be worse)”
It's amazing what the temptation of a bauble here or a bangle there can do to financial management as many clubs have found to their cost. The Conference are to be applauded.
