maybe trying to fashion a result within the time constraints thanks to the weather - I remember England doing it in a test a few years back.
In this case - they didn't legislate for being absolute shite

Two arguments a) To prevent Middlesex from securing a bowling point b) a failed attempt to bowl at Middlesex under the same bowler-favourable conditions that Somerset faced when batting - believing the few runs that might have been added by last two wickets wouldnt greatly change the match situation. Approach backfired once Middlesex openers put on 100 for the first wicket, but once Somerset bowlers got swing, they picked up something like 7 wickets cheaply.

But why?
JI could understand when Ben Smith did it a few years ago but that was last game of the season to secure the title!

I think Worcestershire should try and get Durham to declare right now.
There may be trouble ahead ....

what is going wrong at the county? Innings defeats to everyone, and now conceding 332 in a 50 over game and 30-3 in reply? Has Jaques got it off the square yet this season? Why is Bollinger bowling more like Watney's Red Barrel?
