Worcester born Danny Jackman has today signed for Northampton Town from Gillingham. (He is the grandson of lane legend Bill(?) Jackman and a former schoolfriend of mine)
Damn, when he hinted to me that he was leaving Priestfield, I had hoped he was heading to St Georges Lane!
He promises me that when he is no longer involved in the pro game, he would love to pull on the City shirt. I have told him by the time he is no longer playing the pro game, we will be.
I am a terrible liar.

He's none too popular in certain circles at Priestfield. Having just agreed a new and much improved deal he then wouldn't sign it, apparently. I didn't think he did enough last season to warrant an improved deal, but there you go. He was probably the best player the Gills had the season before.

To be fair to Danny, he gets married in a couple of weeks and his wife is based in the Midlands so he was always looking to move nearer to "home."
He had apparently verbally agreed terms with Gills, but then Stuart Gray came knocking and he decided to move nearer to his loved ones.
As Danny is unlikely to play at a much higher level anytime soon, you can't blame him for looking after his personal life. Ronnie Jepson certainly holds no grudges according to the report in the local rag down there. He may well be on less at Sixfields than he was on at Gillingham.
He is a good honest lad Danny, and I am not just saying that because he is an old friend.

Always struck me as being a good wholehearted pro. It's the Gills fans who are gutted!

Bill was my teacher at St Stephen's. In the really bad winter of '63 everyone except us oldest kids were sent home because we were supposed to be studying for the 11 plus. Bill contributed by throwing a bucket of water down the sloping playground and starting the most ferocious ice slide I've ever seen. He also ruined my life - by encouraging me to watch the City on Saturday afternoons.

I believe he was involved at Comer Gardens too ,where my Dad started his teaching career, as he used to show me where he lived (and Wilf Grant's house in Greenacres Road). I also think he had links with City and Portsmouth feeder team Comer Park.

Bill played for, coached and managed City. He's a no-nonsense Yorkshireman. I'd better watch what I say though - I still owe him some homework, which is now 44 years late!

I lived opposite Wilf Grant in Greenacres Road (mid 1970's), at that time I'm sure he was manager at Hereford Utd, nice bloke, we used to clean his car for "Bob-a-Job". When did your dad teach at Comer Gardens? I was there 1967-1974.

Suv, did you used to help out unpacking Chris Chance's dads sweet van? He always gave us a bag of nut brittle or something similar! I think Dad had left Comer Gardens by then, and taken up residence at Cherry Orchard, teaching the likes of Benny Hill the workings of the internal combustion engine in his morris 1000!! or hauling a whole team of footballers to a game in the back of his Cortina Estate, usually 3 kids on the front seat, 5 across the back seat and another 4 in the boot - yes it was probably legal back then!!!

No, I used to pack Darren Pages Dad's sweet van, he had a market stall in Angel Place (where Angel Chef is now) and also sold broken biscuits!! Same sort of payments-bag of sweets etc, and as many packets of football stickers that we could steal without getting caught!!!!

"too damn posh", been called some things over the years but "posh" isn't a word I would use to describe me, (made Mrs Suv laugh out loud). Would of replied to this message sooner but been away cruising round the Med for the last 10 days!!!!!!!
