Interesting times ahead... a test of loyalty to some? Not me...i'm staying with the City through thick and thin (and thinner!).

An interesting situation to say the least. Wonder what stuff has been going on behind the scenes?

I love the way they talk about it as a "collaboration" - Worcester Warriors owners have taken over Raiders, they've effectively bought their way in to the highest league position that they could do in an easy way as possible. Which is absolutely fair enough, nothing wrong with that at all. As the joint majority owners of the business, they will rebrand and rename the club, as Worcester Raiders are now no more. It is now Worcester Warriors Football Club. This is no surprise, they always said that they wanted to form a football club, and it was a choice of either starting from scratch, or buying an existing vehicle, they've chosen the latter option.

I was a little bit raw earlier from that news literally breaking.. I agree totally with you now i've had time to digest it... Worcester Franchise FC. As football history has shown us with scenarios like this, the star emerges and shines brightly for a short while before burning out, but it will be interesting to see from our perspective especially. Theres a very strong possibility, almost a fated certainty that our two paths will cross and we will clash swords with them... that will be something to look forwards to, entering the lair to face the monster in their back yard. The main thing we need is to stick together and get behind the City more than ever now, the stepping stones are being put in place for us to focus on climbing back up the leagues ourselves to the Southern Premier League in the mid term π

Time to kick on ourselves, we have to ignore their jibes online and in the press.
We move ourselves forward, the only way to stop them progressing past us is to progress ourselves first.
Claines is now ours to move forward and make our own (where allowed to)

Looks like it was a full takeover judging by the article in the press:
βThe Bond Group owned by Jason Whittingham and Colin Goldring have agreed a takeover of our club with Worcester Raiders retaining a percentage shareholding of the club.β
No doubt a change of name, colours and branding to follow

I'm thinking with Raiders leaving the WFA will have a hole in their forecast income from two teams playing at Claines Lane and might want to get some of that back by increasing the rent we pay.

Claines is now ours to move forward and make our own (where allowed to) Itβs hard not to feel a little envious. Many of us were a little bit dazzled I suspect when City were possible targets for Warriors. The profile, backing and facilities are all very attractive. But we know that route also came with some risks and downsides β and I suspect the identity of Worcester Raiders will soon be lost. And if our ambition is to be an enduring football club, owned by the fans and operating at the heart of the community β a Warriors answer may not be the best. The reality is however that Worcester doesnβt have room / appetite for two strong and ambitious football teams; even one has been a struggle. A core of fans will stay loyal to City; the question is where will the next set of people go who get attracted to watch local gamesβ¦. So I agree with Verner, the next 12 months now become critical for City. We need to power on, all get behind the club and the Board, and take advantage of being back in the city while we have a playing advantage over Raiders / Warriors and before they get really established.

The public are only interested in success. A few hardcore City fans will cling to tradition, but the club canβt compete with the infrastructure, facilities and funding at Sixways. When the choice comes between a windswept field and a fully equipped stadium what supporter and, just as crucially, player would choose the former?
Another sad development.

Absolutely. the club needs to push on and compete off the field as well. Stepping up the merchandise has been a great move and looks fantastic. Bringing the rest of the off-field fan-experience side of the club in to modern times is crucially important now - especially now considering the local direct competition. the club cannot afford to become an unprofessional embarrassment, playing in a field down the road. Online/Advance ticketing for every game, taking card payments at the turnstile, utilising modern marketing techniques, even through to building an app are all things that I'm sure the board are looking at. Getting the mailing list going again too - A weekly digest of everything going on at the club, direct in to the fans hands. They're often overlooked, but vital tools in keeping people updated. The football landscape in the city is going to be a real battleground for fan loyalty over the next 5 years, and I hope we come out on top.

The sad reality is that the area canβt sustain two clubs. Either one will fade away, or they will merge. It may take 6 months or 6 years but it will happen. Would City fans accept being the junior side in the town? I doubt it.

I read about this with horror: but on reflection I feel a little more sanguine about it. What worries me, as Ealing says, is that folk want success, and the younger element know nothing about the history behind City. If they can go to a decent ground, have a decent seat and a pint or two, they won't be worried what colour they play in, what name they are.
It's up to us to go forward now, in most uncertain times. As always I prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Never been to Sixways: I assume that comment means the prices are high?

oh yes. Not really what you'd call lower non-league pricing - it'll be interesting how they choose to provide refreshments. In fact it will be interesting to see how they set Sixways up for crowds of 200.

The owners of WW will try and encourage some of their Rugby fans to attend WR footy games, as well as non-City fans who live in Worcester and the areas around it. I would not be surprised if they did get 200+ for their first season at six-ways.

As soon as they see the bellies on some of the Raiders people and the quality of football on offer they won't be back. It really is a pub team playing in a stadium.

The problem (for us anyway) is that the owners of WW will see that (i.e. the type of players Raiders currently have i.e. "the bellies") and replace them with better quality players (which of course they can afford) - but City can't.

I think you will find Raiders won't be a "pub" team for long with the backing they will get now. I fear it makes WCFC look like a poor relation and further splitting the support between two teams could spell the end of City. I've been involved with sports clubs for many years and whereas older members like the "volunteer" type run clubs, the modern supporter/young like their creature comforts and image. A windswept field against a nice stadium with its infrastructure will be a massive draw. Cost of pints doesn't put most people off, look at the cost of David Lloyd membership. Just think we missed the boat not going to Sixways when we had a chance, yes we may have lost a bit if control but we would have had a club something now I think is lost.

Theyβre no better than Red Bull FC (Salzburg, Leipzig or New York) - a corporate plaything with no history - alienating the local fans.
cf. Austria Salzburg, the whole Bundesliga, New York/New Jersey Metrostars
