Great to get that first win, although in truth the opposition had chances to score too and at least one strong penalty claim denied. Some decent performances all round though and an entertaining game.

Chris Withington was also my man of the match, with a 100% performance. It was a hard-earned three points and whilst we still look a bit of a work in progress it was heartening to watch. I was impressed by Aaron Birch too.
I didn't see any penalty shouts from the opposition which convinced me and neither, obviously, did they convince the ref.

Decent game to watch, and a valuable 3 points. Going forward we looked purposeful, especially with Lockett on the ball in the first half. Second half they marked Lockett a lot more, and we weren't quite the same. The final ball into the box needs plenty of working on, as does the runs of the strikers, and the strikers awareness and anticipation. Numerous crosses flashed across their 6 yard box, with no one there. With only the one goal in it, we've got to be far more clinical and decisive in the final third.
Withington and Birch had very good games in midfield, getting their foot in, and being first to the ball on most occasions. The keeper looked very solid, and the defence looked okay albeit against an opposition with limited intent. They switched off on a couple of occasions which against a better side would have been punished. Overall a promising effort, but still plenty left to work on.

See South Normanton hammered Selston 5-0 in the cup today, makes our result against them on Wednesday look a decent one, given that they won 4 on opening day.
If we win tomorrow we've got Heather St Johns away, they beat Wolves Sporting 2-0. Heather is by Ibstock, just off the A42, not quite as far as Shepshed and all those.
