I knew we were playing the wrong sport ! Planners actions re rugby, basketball, crazy golf, FA Headquarters, Ravenmeadow, New Road Premier inns, but .........WCFC ?
The development of this area continues unabated - crashed plane crazy golf, Claines Lane FA development, new school, housing on surplus land, but no shed displays or football stadiums !
Setting aside the council's actions of which you all know I'm no fan, word reaches me that this story was leaked to the paper, and that the vast majority of the hockey club had no idea about it, and have since called an EGM !

I don't think that hardly anyone knew about it until it was reported in the Worcester News last week. Last year a City Council vote was taken to purchase this piece of land but the Council minutes don't say anything else about it. If it hadn't appeared in the WN last week, the meeting on Tuesday would have taken place without anyone getting the opportunity to have a say. It is in stark contrast to the whole process we have been involved in at Perdiswell, where there was a public consultation very early on, then we were asked by the City Council to put our plans up at the Pool public consultation. Everything was performed openly and transparently with Trust members voting at every stage of the whole process. With the Chairman of Planning being so keen on Hockey and tied in with RGS, it is quite clear that this is a done deal as far as planning is concerned as it is expected to be open in September 2020 The Councillors who spoke out so vehemently about a Football Ground being built on a Football Pitch near to the Green Belt have completely gone the opposite way for the Hockey Stadium on the Green belt, which is actually bigger than our proposal.

I feel sorry for the members and players of Droitwich Spa Eagles who kept the pitches there in use and good order when they were being neglected until a few years ago - who will now find themselves homeless and without a venue to play at.
They also say they first found out about this as a result of the newspaper report.
And the Chairman of the Committee that approved this (the Policy and Resources Committee)...
...Green Councillor - Louis Stephen.

I am so disgusted with the Council's attitude that I have today penned a letter to the Evening News pointing out the difference in approach between the two sports.
If there is a plus to this it is that the Council have now set a precedent.

Perhaps the club can now ask to build?

Tim - don't expect the WN to print your letter.
They're more concerned with a snail in someone's burger and BREXIT related rantings than asking questions of the integrity of local councillors. They don't possess an investigative journalist at all.
It is such a woeful paper, chip wrapping at best.

Its almost like the City Council are cupping the local journos' balls threatening a squeeze! I believe that a local journo phoned the club chairman to tell him that the press release given out, congratulating the Hockey Club, was "not newsworthy" and won't be published! Have you also noticed that the image showing the planned pitches has been removed from the Worcester News website too!

Wasn’t hockey Hampson’s favourite sport?

Wasn’t hockey Hampson’s favourite sport? It certainly was - I believe that he is / was a member of Worcester Hockey Club. I notice that Worcester Hockey Club have changed the details for their EGM from "open to everyone to attend" to "Open to all WHC members, WHC officials, their parents/family, and others by invitation only; only members can vote" so unless invited, interested parties will not be finding out about this scheme. That's hardly open and inclusive , it ain't a community scheme. How on earth can public money be used, to build a hockey stadium on green belt land, strictly for the benefit of private members clubs?

I guess they are doing this so they can tell their 500 members about it first. If they are genuine in communicating with the wider public they will follow this meeting up with an open session for all.

They did, in fact, print it tonight, with other letters expressing similar views, especially re impingement on green belt and the floodlighting.

Tim - I read it
The brave reporters at the WN will be investigating the paper trail about who at the Council was behind the initial purchase of the Porcelain ground in the first place, and who at the Council instigated the Hockey Club / RGS deal next !
Whilst they're at it, they could also ask the Council about their differing treatment of the football club ?
Then again.............they might not.

I still think public opinion will now be very much on our side: folk can see for themselves the double standards set by this affair.
I also expect some backlash over the fact they've offered a loan from the public purse - which, after all, we are not asking for.

I went to see Malvern Towns first game on their 3G pitch last night and was highly impressed with what the Board and volunteers have achieved at Langlands. A hell of a lot smarter than a couple of years back. I thought the pitch played very well. It was a good gate and the money spent on beer, burgers and chips must have been phenomenal. A real asset to Malvern - I was very envious. Perhaps our Councillors could pay a visit to see what a neat little 'stadium' looks like.

www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/18170041.decision-new-multi-million-pound-hockey-centre-worcester-hit-delay/Decision on new multi-million-pound hockey centre in Worcester hit with delay just part of the article, Sport England said, despite wanting to support the new centre, it had to raise an objection as the location of the new hockey pitches would have a negative effect on existing playing fields and more information was needed on the proposed loss of football pitches and how existing football teams would be accommodated. Sport England, in an email to city council planners, said it was withdrawing its objection as the changes to the layout of the site meant “the majority of the existing playing field is now unaffected by the proposed development.”

I didn't realise until looking at the planning documents that the original design has been compromised to the extent that the hockey people are now having to share their international standard facility with two junior football pitches.
