Ht City 2-0. ALT down to 10 men early. City playing great and Alt very poor in defence. Could and should be more goals up

A very comfortable win against a poor Altrincham side who barely troubled the City defence. City should have scored at least six, missing chance after chance. Hughes was a threat all afternoon up front, whilst Steele had another good game carrying the ball forward, as did Keane down the left hand side. English and Nelson-Addy had strong physical games in midfield, and the defence especially Oji looked solid. A good day at the office.

A fair summary of today, just to add a few personal observations:
Wayne Thomas looked as majestic as ever, don't think any City player got the better of him, nice to see him acknowledge the City supporters at the end.
Respect to the Alty fans, there were a fair few of them today, despite their poor start to the season.
Pleased to see Tom Sharpe back in action, even if it was because Hutch had to be substituted.
Finally mistakes do happen in the programme from time to time, I should know better than anyone. What do people who buy regularly think about this season's programme overall?

Comfortable after taking an early lead and playing against 10 men for most of the game. Only criticism is we should have scored more. Altrincham kept going right to the end and City's back line had to be alert to keep the clean sheet.
An observation, Hughes appeared in my eyes to curve his run and slow down almost inviting the challenge which led to the sending off. The win puts us 10 points ahead of the relegation places, something that seemed highly unlikely a few weeks ago when we were trailing at home to Gainsborough and a man down.

Decent game, but like has been said - it could/should have been 6-0. I thought Keane was cream of the crop today, he's really looking like a good find by Carl - if he continues to impress he might get looked at by a bigger club.
I thought Thomas looked solid, especially when he hasn't been playing much for Kiddy. He did well sorting his fellow defenders for Alty, to help keep the City score down.
As for the programme - it's not bad, but it's not an award winner. I'd like to see the attendance figures from all the clubs in our league return. The first page gives stats such as ''Highest Attendance - 3830'' But doesn't say which team/game that was. Maybe it's just me, but I like to see the attendance table (we're currently sitting 16th on an average attendance of 553 I believe).

A good result and the sort of game which, last season, we would have struggled to get a result. I didn't think Alty were particularly poor but with only having 10 men on the pitch it may have looked that way. Personally, I thought their no.11 (Miller?) looked particularly busy (chasing well) but got subbed (so what do I know? ). Good play for me was how quickly we wanted to close down Alty early on in proceedings and, also, Ryan Boot pulling off a couple of smart stops which could have easily given Alty a sniff had either gone in when the score was still 2-0. Dodger.

A useful performance and the right result, which I put down entirely to the first outing of the season of the lucky Fedora, which is now back in my rightful possession!!

Programme is ok, I still enjoy reading it. Only points I have are;
Repetition - nearly every piece contains similar content, starts with "we look forward to getting another 3 points to build on etc etc".
Previous game review - what's the point? We all know what happened, it was just last week. I'd replace it with an "On This Day" column (like they do at Hereford) containing articles & photos from fixtures of years gone by. Maybe an unusual photo that many wouldn't have seen before.
Supporters club - I enjoyed their previous year's, reading about the pubs they visited. This season's doesn't say as much.

I thought the red card was a bit harsh, but then again I thought the challenge was in the penalty area and we should have had a spot-kick, and after all I ain't the referee, who was a lot nearer than me, and if he was the last man then I guess the rules is the rules. I think the (eventual) pairing of Oji and Sharpe is our best central defensive partnership.
Despite what's been said I didn't think we were that dominant: at times Alty controlled the midfield, and it looked like it was us who had the ten men, but as the game went on they did tire.
A very useful three points.

Quite agree Tim regarding the defensive pairing. I still think the midfield needs a terrier type player such as Jackman who is prepared to tackle and not stand off and hope for a mistake from the opposition midfield. Jacko would have had a field day on Saturday! For me , the existing central midfielders work rate is just not sustained, that's why Steele was finding himself having to move in to a more central role to do the work.
Having said that, Alty were quite poor overall despite Thommos attempt to instill some order into their side, and 3 points are of course most welcome.

Interesting to look at our results this season so far. Of 8 games played versus teams currently below us we have only lost 1 (Nuneaton); of the 8 versus teams above us we have only won 1 (Brackley).
We will be ok as long as we maintain that trend.

Was a decent performance from us and feel it could've been about 6 in all honesty. Keane played his best game for us and we rarely looked in trouble. The more I watch Steele the more I feel he should be played through the Centre as he has a very high work rate and does well to win the ball with him winning the ball back for us on the two occasions we scored before setting up ENA yet again from a central position. He is always a handful and could really hurt teams in the central area of the pitch. I'd play him off Hughes who he seems to link up well with.

I see Alty have sacked Jim Harvey now www.altrinchamfc.co.uk/news.htm#161206harvey Will be a real shame if they go down. I can still remember the late 70s when Altrincham in the north and City in the south were the best two teams in non-league football....

And signed Clayton McDonald (see explayerwatch thread). Wayne Thomas didn't last long there did he?
Jim Harvey managed Halifax to relegation (and the FA Trophy final) last season: I think he should retire gracefully.
With only seven points on the board I think they are in real trouble; I'm really surprised to see them down there, as I thought they would be one of the promotion contenders myself.

Thommo was on a month's loan which began last week in October, so has gone back to Kidderminster.

I think I remember reading in our program, when they played us a few months ago, that they operate strict budget controls. They are doing all they can to raise money (fans organize events for improving ground facilities etc) & I think one of the Man U teams play there.
