Hate to bring this up again but rumours are rife that a move there is on the cards.
Not sure how I feel about that... it'd be great to be back in Worcester but the thought of playing in an empty 12k stadium isn't great

great if true, back in Worcester i mean, but is it definite that we will play in the warriors patch or out on a limb are they building a for their seconds & ladies team to play on, if so we could then use that, just thinking out loud... i will wait with anticipation for replys...

I suspect attendances would rise slightly if we do move to sixways, but only by 100 or so - as has been said, 700 in a 12,000 capacity stadium doesn't sound very logical. How are we going to afford Sixways? We couldn't afford Aggborough which is half the size. How will segregation work? To my knowledge Sixways doesn't have segregation gates, so will probably result in more stewards, meaning more cost.
If another 'mini sixways' stadium is to be built and shared between us and some of the other teams based there, it could possibly be an opportunity worth exploring, but I cannot see that happening. Out of curiosity, does anyone know what sort of attendances other Worcester Rugby teams get? It'd be good if they have similar support to ourselves.

This is unfortunately ever increasingly looking like Hampson's mystery "Plan B". It doesn't lead to long term sustainability of the club and is not the solution. As good as being in exile.

This is the epitome of utter foolishness, a plan put together by people who have no understanding of the business side of non-league football. All I can say is....Runcorn and Wealdstone! Do we learn nothing from the past? Remember what the reason was for moving from Aggborough to Bromsgrove? Warriors need one thing, and thats utilisation of their new 4G pitch, and subsequent revenue from that. If this is the answer, the Board have asked all the wrong questions.

Jem is spot on. I know that the personal opinions /preferences of one individual are not a consideration when important decisions are being made (and nor should they be),especially when that individual isn't from the City, but I would never set foot in Sixways.I think it would be a total disaster.I did have the misfortune to be at the games at Halton stadium Widnes, and Vicarage Road, to which Jem refers and they were mind blowingly horrid.

Sorry -I meant to add that I know Jem was referring to the financial side rather than the spectator experience, and he is dead right, although,of course, one affects the other and vice versa.

Exactly! The financial side for both teams was horrific, the spectator experience was horrific, totally atmosphereless, and crowds dwindled. I remember watching us beat Wealdstone back in the days of Ollie Kearns and Colin Robinson, a great performance, but it was like playing in a morgue!

The only logic for such a move would be to have a temporary home closer to the city, or provide some financial relief, in anticipation of a move to a permanent home in the city.
I cannot imagine it will be any better financially, probably worse. And will represent a highly convenient excuse for still not progressing a new ground, not that this was ever a possibility given the staggering incompetence shown so far.
The only hope for the club would continue to the Trust's independent CBS action.

If it was a choice of playing on the 4G pitch at Sixways in a near empty stadium ( temporary or not ), or remaining playing on grass at Bromsgrove, then it's Bromsgrove every time for me. Moving to Sixways would be a hastened financial suicide, and it would have to cost more to stage a game there than currently at the Victoria Ground.
As soon as that 4G pitch went in, I've feared the worse.
We'd still have no ground of our own with its associated income, yet it would cost us more for the privilege !

Not that I think 6 ways is an ideal option, if an option at all. BUT I am interested in the financial implications. Have I missed something regarding the costs ? Does anyone actually know what the costs are or is everyone assuming that it will be more expensive ? If this move is on the cards; surely our super efficient business savvy board of directors will have ensured that it is an economically viable move for us !!

If warriors need to utilise it more, it could be cheaper, to benefit both parties?
Wouldn't it be nice to have sub-£10 football back in Worcester. Maybe it'd boost the crowd, being cheap and in a nice stadium.

We are all guessing it would be more expensive jimbo, nothing has been said yet. Having to pay Kiddy, Bromsgrove or Sixways - it's all the same. Personally, the thought of 800 fans in a 12,000 capacity stadium fills me with dread - maybe we'll play before the rugby team does, like a support act (

Surely if it was more expensive back when we first went to Kiddy and when we agreed the move to Bromsgrove then it still would be now.

Can someone please explain. In 3 years we will be skint. Wherever we play, how can we afford the rent. The proposed reformation of the club seems to be an impossible dream.

Maybe it'd boost the crowd, being cheap and in a nice stadium. It could be, but it's like Wembley Stadium, to pay for it , it needs to be utilised and I havent seen prices fall even with the volume of events that go on there. They need to utilise it to pay for it, and someone has to pay. Sixways will be no different. I always advocated Sixways as an answer, but that was when the football club could have made some decent money out of the sale of SGL, and entered into a JV with Warriors. Sixways was probably the answer 10 years ago, its isn't now.

I saw the Warriors match at Sixways on the highlights programme last night. The match was as dire as the football on Saturday. The green as grass 4G pitch looked very unsightly with all the rubbed out markings from the American football that gets played there, so if ever they marked a football pitch on it as well................what a confusing mess that would look. It would look like an old school gym with all the different coloured tape on ! Give me Bromsgrove any day.
I can see why they are desperate to utilise the pitch though, as it appears that the matching padded jacket wearing brigade, jump on the fair weather bandwagon fans are long gone. On a lovely sunny day, a must win game against relegation rivals, in the 12,000 capacity stadium, there was a crowd of 6,375. No wonder it looked empty. Our 500-600 would certainly rattle around a bit !
With a playing staff of 50, back up staff galore, stadium running costs, they must be losing money hand over fist, and the investment group backers must be bailing them out with a big bucket.

Got it in one alwaysnextyear! They need that revenue, 4G pitches aren't cheap to maintain, and need replacement every few years. WCFC would be nothing more than a revenue generation stream for Warriors. Is that really all we want to be? Just to play in Worcester? I was an advocate of the plans that Dave Boddy had to build a partnership with Warriors, a sort of Sporting Worcester hub at Sixways, and with a few million in the bank, this was eminently possible. But how can we possibly go to Warriors now and say "You've got a 12,000 seater stadium, a 4G pitch, a fully integrated transport network, catering facilities, conference facilities etc. and we've got............nothing to offer!! but hey!! Fancy partnering???" Warriors are happy to host American Football, 6 a side leagues, anything to bring in revenue from the playing surface. And I don't think that this plan is any secret anymore, people in official capacities at both football and rugby clubs are talking about it. Maybe not the fine details, but enough to show that its for real.

For all the misgivings mentioned above, I fear that Sixways is as near to a ground in Worcester as we are ever likely to get. The present Board is as likely to ever be prepared to take on the debt of building a new stadium as the Council are of gifting the land or granting planning permission.
Opposing a move to the Warriors ground would, however, be more grist to the mill of division in which City have operated for more than SIXTY years. And, after all, it wouldn`t be the same without it !

For those still waiting in anticipation for the Board's Plan B...........
I note that Sixways will be hosting its first 11 a side game on 1st March when the RGS play King's School on the 4G pitch. A forerunner for Plan B chaps ?
Other Sixways news is that Anthony Glossop has stepped down as Chairman to be replaced by Bill Bolsover. For those with short memories, Mr Glossop was Chairman of St Modwen when SGL was sold to Carey's, and the WCFC Board entered into the disastrous Nunnery way deal with St Modwen ( you know, the 600 k for eff all deal ) that has financially scuppered the club. The press release of the time says it all
" Regeneration specialist St Modwen Properties is to develop a new multi-million pound 6,000 capacity stadium for Worcester City FC on a 7.5 acre site on the edge of the city.
The scheme will meet the club's long term aspirations to have a modern stadium to meet Football League requirements.
It marks the culmination of years of planning by the Blue Square North club to replace the St George's Lane ground, which has been their home for 102 years.
Worcester City FC and St Modwen have entered into a joint venture partnership agreement on the site at Nunnery Way, close to M5 Junctions 6 and 7.
Under the agreement the club will acquire the new stadium when completed.
A planning application for the stadium, which is allocated in the Local Plan, along with enabling development to support the football club development will be submitted early in 2008.
Dave Boddy, chairman of Worcester City, said: "After many years of frustration and waiting, this is the news that all Worcester City FC supporters have been waiting for.
"After years of endless negotiations, discussions and meetings with numerous parties, we have finally been able to put together a partnership that has the ability to deliver the new stadium that everybody associated with the club has craved for so long.
"We are delighted to be working with such a high profile and reputable company as St Modwen, which has strong roots within the city.
"We are determined to build a stadium that will have the commercial non-football income streams to help the club climb up the football pyramid and sustain football at a much higher level. We are also determined to build a stadium that the city and the community will be proud of."
Anthony Glossop, chairman of St Modwen, said: "The football stadium is the catalyst for the 20 acre development of which it forms the key part. The remaining 12.5 acres will be developed into an exciting mixed use scheme which will complement and support the football stadium and bring other commercial uses to benefit the city as a whole "
As I drive past the rapidly changing site, remembering Mr Glossop's promising words, and see the ' exciting mixed use scheme " in progress, and eagerly await the classy additions of a pub, KFC, car showroom, and warehouses to " benefit the city as a whole", rather than think " catalyst " and " key part ", I can't help but tend to think it was more like a trojan horse to get planning permission for the M5 corridor.
Still never mind, St Modwen's got the planning permission, we got no ground and a bill for 600k for fresh air.
