1-1 after 20 mins. Penalty by Hughes first. Crowd could be sub 500? Loads in stand but not many elsewhere

Half Time 1-1. Terrible ref. Harrogate are determined to give us as many free kicks as possible. Just heard Kiddy are off to a bad start 5-0 h/t

Soft, soft, soft last minute equaliser

A good game all in - 650 attendance is decent, I always find it tough to judge a crowd at grounds the first few times you've been there in quick succession! A beautiful game for a match, and the covered end can really make some noise - a few new chants by the louder supporters among us really helped build an atmosphere.
To get a point in against a team that has realistic aims to be in the top 5 come end of the season, I think we did really well. A couple of silly errors cost us, but they can be sorted out once the team get used to playing with one another.
We still have 3 players to get in the squad after their international clearance, hopefully they'll be about at Tamworth!
As it's our first proper game at the VG, I'd like to say well done to all those involved in sorting out the ground, and making sure everything ran smoothly!

Yes, overall a pretty good display today. Somehow I knew Harrogate would equalise from that late free kick.
One complaint though, where were the announcements during the game? Things like substitutes names, goal scorers names, attendance etc.

Feels like a defeat, but ultimately is a good point and we would have taken it at 3pm this afternoon.
Started brightly but Harrogate unsettled us with their physicality, some of the newer lads got a very rude introduction to National League North.
I think there were a lot of positives to take from today, namely:
- Joe Fitzpatrick (6), looks assured on the ball and for a young lad he's got a physical presence. Uses the ball well in addition to looking comfortable on it. Unlucky to get subbed off. - Lee Hughes, whatever you think of him as a person, he knows where the net is. - Cieran Keane (3), he did give away the free kick which led to the equaliser, but gets stuck in and looks solid defensively. - Chekaine Steele (11), I don't think he is a winger, looks more suited to a CM role to me but has a neat touch and caused problems at times. - Ebby NA (10) - some good driving runs and linked up well with Hughes and was unlucky to see a good block deny him. - The attendance. 650 at the Vic feels like 1200+ at Aggborough. Not keen on the seats in the stand though, my a**e is still aching.
I'm not going to go through any negatives, or judge players on one game. The lads that have made mistakes today will know that mistakes will cost goals against the top sides, and we need to cut those out ASAP.

People often poke fun at me for taking a jacket to games - but it makes a nice cushion if needed!!

Just to get back to Mark's point. Is this non-announcement thing permanent?

Just to get back to Mark's point. Is this non-announcement thing permanent? You had our announcer/PA guy today. Unfortunately they took the team sheet back off him at kickoff so he had no information to give you guys. I did Sporting's music/PA for most of 2013/4 and know how hard it is without someone feeding you the info!

Yes, thanks to the Sporting chap for doing it - though myself I do miss the lovely tones of Niels and Jane! I understand their reasoning behind not doing it however, and as they are just volunteers, no pressure from me to return!

Personally I'd rather have silence than letting Neils anywhere near the mic again! dont knock it, they are volunteers, but you could always attempt it yourself, then you would find out how difficult a job it is...i have done lots of mic work in my days but would not do this !!!

Personally I'd rather have silence than letting Neils anywhere near the mic again! Thanks for all your work Neils and the support from Jane, I would also add that it would seem the Club is in such a fine financial position that we do not need the monies raised from the half time draw as the volunteers for this have been upset by the Chairman.

40 or so Harrogate at a guesstimate, I don't know of any Sporting fans who went, though I'm sure a couple would have been there!

I enjoyed it. A good atmosphere, able to walk around the ground freely, food and drink cheaper. A better attendance than I expected.

Thanks thesecondjack, that means around 600 City fans there - not bad at all. I wonder how many will be going to Tamworth on Tuesday? Was the WCFC club shop open, or are the volunteers boycotting it?

I wasn't there but it seems like a very good result in front of a pretty good attendance. Couldn't have foreseen either after the debacle of the Redditch game over at Stourport!

no shop at this match, but the club will have an area where they can build one as permanent while the club is there, also 50/50 draw being done from next match from information gained... like the ground, great place for better atmosphere, board just need to get more organised with the little things & really sort out the future as the bigger things, like what is the future plan...

Very annoying to concede 2 soft goals, but as Hutch said on the radio, the positive is that they were not from Harrogate's brilliance carving us open, but more our mistakes. I thought that it was an encouraging team performance, and was unrecognisable from the pre season performance we put up against Redditch. I thought that the whole side was very hard working, and showed great energy. We also showed some flair going forward. I thought that our midfield had bite and energy about it, which we lacked a lot last season. All in all, I was encouraged by the performance against a side ranked pre season 4th favourites by the bookies to win the League.

Encouraging performance I thought: not impressed with either Chekaine Steele or Junior English, even if Carl was, but WAS impressed by Nelson-Addy (even better than he was before and a class ahead of most) and Joe Fitzpatrick (wrongly credited by the NPL with the first goal - how DID they manage that?!). Considering the heat I thought most put in a good shift and had Bishop put away the chance created by Nelson-Addy we'd have been home and dry. As, also, it was the first game they'd all played together and was therefore somewhat experimental, there were encouraging signs.
Pity about the last-minute equaliser: it's almost become par for the course with City.
Disagree about the ref: he let the game flow and the foul count was very low. Missed the team announcement and had to resort to getting someone to ask Dan Johnson at HT who everybody was. Come back Niels and Jane!
I was also encouraged by the attendance: I thought we'd be lucky to get 350 at Bromsgrove. Let's hope it stays that way.
