I've had a lightbulb moment !
The way forward is not to be upfront and say that you want to build a new football ground, but to say that you want to build a " science / technology park/hub " with an emphasis on supposed green credentials and unprovable ballpark future employment figures. " What " , I hear you ask, stay with me !
The secret is to say the permission is wanted for one thing, get it in outline, let time move on, and then let it evolve into something else. Simple.
The Worcester 6 Development ( just off junction 6 ), involving local prominent landowner, our dear friends The Spetchley Estate. Permission was granted in 2011 for a " high technology park " with the anchor tenant apparently being Worcester Bosch. To facilitate all this happening, the taxpayer via the LEP ( Local Enterprise Partnership ) gives £ 10 m towards infrastructure costs. ( Now we do have experience of the high cost of those, 600k for nothing whatsoever ! ). Lots of new roads, environmentally friendly landscaping, hedges ripped out etc. Worcester Bosch pull out. The high technology bit loses its emphasis, and there are fears it will now be just another business park ( bland warehousing to you and I ). It is open to debate as to whether permission would have ever been granted for destroying 178 acres of open countryside for " just another business park ".

Now I read in today's Worcester News of another organisation that doesn't appear to struggle too much with getting planning permission, the University of Worcester. Back in 2009, they bought 27 acres off Oldbury Road with the intention of it being a business, science, health and enterprise " hub " to create just the mere 2,000 jobs in this case, to be known as University Park. Guess what ? Nothing's happened. Now, I read that they have a vision of a new " green " campus with halls of residence, teaching space, environmentally- friendly landscaping ( aren't they all ? ) and extra facilities like eateries ( sounds like a basic expansion to me ). The project name has been changed to " University Court ", and the planning application is expected to be submitted this autumn. I'm sure that along with others, I wish them well and they get what they want, although based on past applications, I would imagine that the Council's well worn rubber stamp is being inked up as I write.
One slight snag in my masterplan for us ! As we may have only 2/3 years left, we can't afford to sit on that land we haven't got !
So my friends, we have been shown the way forward, so let us follow their footsteps.
ps Perhaps if we put inappropriate shiny gold coloured cladding on the front of our stand, it may help the application as well ?
