Great first half. Very enjoyable and pphysical. Excellent work from Hughes for the goals. HT 2-1.
Don't know what the problem with Stockport's no9 but can someone give him a Snickers at half time.

Heeley said in the postmatch interview that it's down to the midfield not defending for the last 20 minutes... So why on earth did we only make one sub before their goals? Webb coming on for 2 minutes was pointless, we needed to change shape to deal with them from about the 65th minute. Before people say 'hindsight is 20-20', I was saying so at the time! Jackman could have come on, Webb earlier or even stick Morris in a holding midfield role.

Wtf
Looked like we tried to defend 2-1 instead of going for the kill. Stockport were poor compared to Bradford and we conspired to lose!!
Lots of anti Heeley comments at the end which I don't buy??

I'm sure Jackman didn't play cos he's carrying an injury. The people we had on the park should have been able to defend better than they did. Our luck ran out today thats just it.

We do seem to have one or two fans who only ever go over to the tunnel at the end of a match when we lose, just to have a go at the management. I might question the managements decisions at times (again, I think we needed to utilise the bench today, but didn't), but never go over to berate them. Applaud them off.
As for Jackman, I think he was left on the bench because Stockport are a team of big blokes that 5ft4 Jacko would have struggled with over the 90. Carrying a knock or not though, he always puts in a shift. I think he would have been fine for 30 minutes.

Also, playing 3 up front to accommodate Kyle Perry makes us play long. Surely 2 out of 3 is the option. It's obvious!!!!!!!

Hughes showed his class in the first half, firstly charging down the keeper's clearance to produce a goal out of nothing, secondly an excellent pass diagonally towards the corner flag by Donellan was picked up by Hughes with still a lot to do, beat his man and then the keeper with a cracking shot from wide on the left. Stockport always looked a threat going forwards or was that City looking suspect at the back? Second half City looked a bit tired, Stockport kept pushing and in the end just as it looked as if we had ridden out the storm Stockport equalised following a scramble. This gave them a lift at the wrong time for City. The visitors' keeper atoned for his mistake by denying Donellan in the first half and Hughes in the second. Disappointing end but hopefully the team can pick themselves up for Tuesday. Its getting too close for comfort.

Carl's assessment was spot on. As soon as Kyle Perry came off, we lost our focus. Not that he looks like scoring, but like Symmo, he brings others into the game, gives us a chance of winning a header, allows Hughes and Burton to run off him, and we can hit a long ball up to him, and play further up the pitch. Once he came off, we had to stop hitting the long ball, and retain possession. Pass and move, retaining the ball. We started giving the ball away a lot more with hopeful long passes, lost our shape and defensive discipline, invited them onto us, kept dropping deeper, and they scored twice. Looking on the bright side, winning one and losing one is better than drawing two ! The players know what they have to do at Hednesford.

Dare I say that, on this occasion, we were just beaten by the better side over the 90 minutes?
The two crucial misses in the second-half, by Murphy and Hughes, would have made the difference of course.

Overplayed in the wrong parts of the pitch on Saturday. Worst I've ever seen Weir play, and for someone with clear ability, Gater's judgement of what to do and when to do it is sorely lacking. Probably Donnellan's worst game in a City shirt too. Hughes and Gudger deserved all three, and Vaughan made sevral stops to keep us in it. Could easily have been 5-2.
