0-0 at half time. Seems like Alfreton had the best of the first half but we had a few chances.

We went 1-0 down with about half an hour to go but Hughes saves a point with a last minute header from a corner!

Goodness that was a terrible game.
Minihan man of the match for me. First half was terrible, players seemed intent on hoofing the ball forward at the earliest chance, almost nobody wanted to take two touches of the ball. Second half we were slightly better, but I'm considering that a point well won against a physical Alfreton who are well in form.
I didn't like the keeper on loan from Cheltenham, used his feet to deal with a cross in at the near post (not hands why?) and seemed to be in a right mess which led to the goal, trying to get a leg to it. Would have much preferred Ethan to get a chance.
Credit to their fans, there were probably 35-50 of them.
Credit to our fans in the North Stand, who didn't stop singing.
Oh, and Murphy didn't have a good game again.

Under the circumstances a point gained rather than two lost. Overall Alfreton had the edge, bigger, often stronger and quicker to close us down. Although I thought our defence did very well. Sean Donellan again had a great game he REALLY wanted it and refused to come off when he was injured near the end. Jacko too worked hard and couldn't see why he was subbed. What can you say about Hughesy? He had a quiet night but all of his experience and ability distilled into one header in added time to win a point.
Also, and it's not just City who do this, why is that we can play a high tempo footballing passing game in the last 5 minutes? Why can't we do this for at least some of the previous 85 minutes??

Referee was awful, not biased, just awful. I also have to question whether the Alfreton forward was offside in the lead up to their goal, certainly seemed like it from my angle. In the end I was happy to get a draw.

Why is this thread under the heading "v Boston (h)"? Someone must have been having a bad day if they didn't even know who we were playing!
Another very disappointing game, but Lee Hughes, not for the first time this season, played his "get out of jail card" again. I was delighted to get a point against an Alfreton side who's sole game plan seemed to be to hoof the ball up in the air, a game which never suits us.
I don't know why Mr D'Aguilar (the ref last night) comes in for so much stick: he got an awful lot right last night.

Tim, I tend to pretty much agree with the views you post on here but in this case I have to wonder if you were actually at a game in which Boston were playing. The referee at the City game last night was worse than useless, as he usually is.

I have to agree. My heart sinks when I see Mr D'Aguilar is in charge. He is a persistent offender. I remember a couple of seasons ago away at Gloucester when, through his indecisiveness and inconsistency, he managed to escalate some normal rough and tumble into a near riot between players and management teams. And just one little example from last night he made great play in ordering an Alfreton player to retreat yard by yard down the line in order to take a throw in and then stood and watched the same player run 10 yards back up the touch line before throwing it in!! I bet he was grateful that the late goal from Hughesy took the edge of the crowd's anger and saved him from the usual howls of disapproval as he went off down the tunnel.

As opposed to last Saturday when I felt it was 2 points lost, last night I felt that it was 1 point gained. Alfreton are in form, and are a tough, rugged bunch to beat. I thought that we stuck at it to the end, in what wasn't a pretty match, but a hard fought one. Our friend the ref ? Like others I thought " Oh no, not him again " at the start. However whilst still not very good ( and a mile away from last Saturday's ref ) , I felt that he had an average game, and certainly the best he's reffed us this season. Not saying much I know, but he's been a lot worse. What was a lot better though, was our attitude towards him, where by and large, we accepted his decisions whether right or wrong, and generally got on with it, without our usual tantrums. Well done to Danny Jackman's captaincy.

He is terrible, I cannot stand it when he's the ref. He wasn't good last night, a couple of city players should have been booked, and their 6 should have probably got two - he did go to blow his whistle at their 6 when he made up 10 yards on that throw, but seemed to decide against it because he was on a yellow. It's not the fact of him being biased or inconsistent, it's that he misses so much and is consistently bad.
There's only one thing that makes me not want to go and watch Worcester play, and it's him.
-end rant-

Certainly a point gained against a very good Alfreton Town side who played some good football and were physical and used whatever they needed to get a foot in the game. Our defence coped well the Alfreton front men , with Kieran Morris doing well on his return to the side after his loan spell at Rushall . My man of the match was Sean Donnellan who battled well to match the physical opposition and never gave up and put in a big shift for the club. The introduction of sub Marius who showed he has some real quality and will be a real asset to the squad, Jordan Murphy seems to be struggling and had another inconsistent showing. We seem to have a never say die attitude and could of had a couple of goals before Lee Hughes bullet header clinched a point to send the home supporters home happy. The referee as usual was awful and allowed the Alfreton players to get away with some unlawful tactics without booking them and some of his decisions were questionable. Overall a good battling point won and the team spirit is a lot better with Danny Jackman as captain, without any disrupting influences in the dressing room who have now left the club.

I'll just have to accept I'm in the minority where Mr D'Aguilar is concerned: then again, no referee - no game, simple as that, so thank your lucky stars someone is prepared to do the job and take the ire of the (biased) crowd.
Incidentally, I think "ac" as the poster of this thread and its title is the only person who can change the title of the thread from Boston to Alreton.

"physical"? I think people are being polite to the Alfreton players. The aim was at all times to get to the ball first. The Worcester player closer to the ball appeared to be an inconvenience that needed to be pushed/shoved/barged/wrestled out of the way. It resembled Aussie Rules Football at times. No. 6 (my little pony) in particular pushed his luck. It was a shame really because I thought they were a good side with skilful players especially the No. 8 Meikle. They resembled Gloucester but with skill and ability.
City really struggled with these strong arm tactics in the first half but adapted in the second half and gave as good as they got. It was good to see that City refused to give up and thoroughly deserved the point at the end. I have to say Donnellan is some player. For a young player on loan his attitude is first class. We really missed his drive and skill when he moved into defence on Saturday.
