Nice mention on BBC website (last item) www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35173934Some irony perhaps in that the teams who knocked us out of the competition these past 2 seasons are playing Chelsea and Man Utd respectively this weekend !

City once again get a mention on the 1959 Liverpool game by the BBC in its FA Cup Third Round coverage. "FA Cup: Third-round ties that changed course of football history" www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35173934To put it right Liverpool had already approached Bill Shankly some time before but he refused the offer unless he could select the team. It sounds strange today but it was a common practice then. Some time later after the club's visit to St George's Lane the Liverpool directors returned to Bill and said "yes" he could pick the team! Normally at this point you say "....and the rest is history". However, in this case it is not quite true! On 19 December 1959 Bill Shankly watched his first game in charge of Liverpool at Anfield where they got a 4:0 cuffing by Cardiff City managed by two-times City manager Bill Jones!

...And in a strange quirk of fate the 4th round draw... If (only a teeny weeny leetle 'if' ) we'd overcome Sheff Utd, then Oldham and Man U we would be playing Derby away. Last year...had we won the shootout vs Scunny, then we'd have faced Chesterfield who ended up playing at...Derby!! Maybe next year..3rd time lucky and we get that lucrative tie at Derby!
