A very frustrating defeat, being robbed at the end of the game by a header from a free kick that should never have been given. All 3 officials were again terribly inconsistent, but inadvertently they contributed to a very entertaining game. Defensively we looked shaky at times, particularly in dealing with corners and set pieces albeit against a Southport side that varied them well. Going forward we were a threat all game with the pace of Nti and Dunkley working well with the runs of Hughes. I thought that Gater and Deeney played well in midfield, whilst Nelson - Addy had a great first half. It was a good game to watch, end to end throughout against a full time side, and the team can be proud of their efforts. Hopefully Dunkley's injury ( from another obvious foul that wasn't given ) won't keep him out too long, as his pace scares defenders.

Could have done with Tommo at the back last night. It was a positive performance all round. Set pieces were the only time when Southport truly threatened, but boy did we look vulnerable when they did. It was a game that was there for the taking and which we controlled for large parts. We generally knocled the ball around and used the flanks well; Dan Nti and Dunkley had good games. Saying that, for all the possession we had, we lacked that cutting edge at times.
Looking forward to Gloucester away on Boxing day. Is a massive game and hopefully we should take a good following down there.

Hopefully the following won't include the 20 or so Morons who, as well as singing obscene songs, decided to 'man up' and intimidate the 5 Southport fans in the 'away' end during the second half. I know they are only kids but they could end up costing the club money. "Your support is f*****g s**t" is not a welcome addition to the atmosphere. Weed them out before they expand.

Agreed. Staying in the away end second half merely to goad the Southport Six (or however many of them that there were- fair play to them for making the trip) was poor form.

I just wonder some times why we have to pay for so many stewards who fetch balls & take tickets on entry, we must pay a fortune for this facility & they do little to stop those few who as mentioned above are not wanted, yesterday second half was pathetic what happened but the stewards moved their supporters away so that enticed ours to make more of it, if they had picked on one of ours the others would have cowered away...

I certainly didn't like seeing them try and get under the skin of the 5-6 Southport fans. I don't want to discourage them from coming - the extra noise, crowd and money boost is surely welcome... just not the annoying wannabe hooliganism.
While we're on the topic of the silly children from last night, can we also try and cut down on the ''you fat [expletive]'' whenever the opposition keeper kicks the ball. Seeing as half of those who shout it wouldn't look out of place in a sumo ring, it shouts out hypocrisy, and just isn't true for 90% of keepers.
I really enjoy the odd ''Ellis Deeney, he's better then Troy'' chant, or the once in a blue moon ''Heeley give us a wave'' and I'm sure with a bit of thinking, they could come up with some more family friendly, yet entertaining chants!

Cant disagree with any of the above. Good to see they wanna support local club but their "hooligan" act really is embarrassing & pathetic. Somebody needs to get hold of them & say you are welcome to support the club but the ridiculous swearing in the songs has to stop. No doubt we've all have a good swear over the years watching some of the dross thats been served up at times but these clowns do my head in & i'm glad somebody brought it up so i can get it off my chest.

This group are becoming a problem and we are on the case.
There were just 6 - 10 of them on Saturday vs Gainsborough, the group grew in size in just a couple of days.
We seem to have more of them turning up on Tuesday night matches.
The last time this large group came to a game....fa cup replay vs Solihull and they did the same thing then. They switched ends as normal and then changed their minds and went back to the end where Solihill fans were housed..
On that occasion stewards stopped a number of Moors fans from retaliating....to answer the question above...we moved the Southport fans to the other side of segregation fence for their safety and so we didnt have another Solihull game on our hands.
We are working on trying to identify members of the group and will be watching for the group at turnstiles over the next number of games.

That's good. It only needs a few away fans to get sick of the ridiculous taunting & some of our "Fooligans" could get hurt. Annoying as they are, they are only kids & it could lead to some serious problems if some older City fans to try to get involved if only to break it up. These things can escalate very quickly as we saw last year against Greenwich Borough in FA Cup.

Last night was just embarrasing. The kids and then the bloke in the PA box "hanging on".
The kids weren't stopped from going down the other end, so they've technically done no wrong. Maybe one of the 25ish stewards we pay for could man up and do their job and move them to/ keep them where they should be.
Yes, they are kids, but maybe talking and communicating in a decent manner with them instead of talking down your nose to them, like the idiot steward who accused them of racial abuse on Saturday may get them to comply.

Completely agree with you, the stewards should have moved them out of that end and into the opposite end, the stewards never seem to be bothered, and then when confronting them, don't help themselves by the way the speak to them. We welcome the extra support but there just there to look for trouble which is worrying. I'm sorry, this is not meant to cause offence but I know there are a lot of people that agree with me when I say that things that are said in the tannoy is embarrassing and very unprofessional. Niels, please can u stop with the the stupid, inns proprietor remarks you make in every game and just announce the game like any normal person. Saying idiotic things like 'southport hanging on' is stupid and makes out club look stupid. It's not the first time. I've heard Niels make remarks about referees performances over the tannoy whine the game is active. How the club have not reprimanded him over this is beyond me. Stop with the the stupid jokes and remarks and just announce the match NORMALLY please.

I note that wcfcnb82 said it's not meant to cause offence, but we should be considerate, Jane and Niels do it for free, including sorting out the music.
I certainly prefer Jane and Niels to what some other clubs put out. Solihull with the bloke who reads out a sponsorship every five seconds over the speakers (which I think they might have got from a PC World bargain bin). Kiddy last season for the senior cup had the chap on the pitch trying to look all professional in his suit with his clipboard, yet struggled to correctly read almost everything on it, or the countless clubs which just have one depressed sounding bloke murmur the team sheet and attendance like it's an afterthought.
I feel like we actually have it rather good with our pairing! I'll agree, the ''if Southport can hang on'' comment was wrong, but I for one usually enjoy some of the remarks put out - Highlight of the 'PA season' so far was when we were getting hammered by Hednesford ''Are those rain clouds I see''. I'm sure both would own up and say they could be more professional, but I don't think we should want that! They show a light hearted side which I think makes it more enjoyable.

Well if you do not like what they do & put the negative comments the could stop doing the PA, so who would do it YOU. at the start of the season requests were made for extra vouleniers but it seems no one wanted to do it...

However, those few morons didn't stay up that end from the first half, they positively moved down there having gone for their half-time refreshments: I know, as I am sat in the back row of the stand, and saw them go behind me. Why did the stewards allow them in that end? Which genuine supporters go and stand behind the opposite end to that which their team is attacking? Their intent was obvious. Next time just prevent it happening.
As for the game I was disappointed to lose in that fashion, the only good side being that at least we didn't have to endure extra-time.
